Pink Tutu Rome: Post 747 - Wednesday 30th September, 2009

Ciao Bella!

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means - it's Pink Tutu time! I'm coming to you live from the Eternal City itself - Rome! 🇮🇹

My lovelies, this trip has been an absolute dream. Rome is everything I'd imagined and more. I’m still in a bit of a daze from the sheer beauty of this place. The cobbled streets, the incredible architecture, the warm sun, the gelato... I could stay here forever! 🍦

Speaking of which, remember those fabulous ballet flats I got in Florence? I've been living in them, darling. They're so comfy and perfectly match my current pink floral midi dress. Yes, I'm fully embracing my pink girly side here, what can I say? Rome has a certain je ne sais quoi that makes you want to twirl and embrace all things chic and charming.

Anyway, let's back up a bit, shall we? I'll let you in on the nitty gritty of how I even ended up in this magical city...

From Derbyshire to the City of Seven Hills

My journey to Rome began with the train journey, of course. I love nothing more than sitting by the window, watching the countryside fly past, a good book in my lap and a steaming cup of tea. My new book is a biographical piece on the late great Margot Fonteyn - she's truly an inspiration to all us tutu-wearers.

Reaching Rome's Termini station felt like entering another world. The vibrant hustle and bustle of the city was a lovely shock to the system, a refreshing change from the rolling hills of my beloved Derbyshire.

The best part? A cheeky little tutu-wearing escapade right there in the station! 🤭 Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a street performer, twirling away in a stunningly bright pink tutu! She had all the onlookers mesmerized. I, of course, immediately joined in the applause, letting her know that she had just made my day. That’s how I do, folks – encouraging fellow tutu enthusiasts wherever I go! 💖

Living La Dolce Vita in Rome

After settling into my lovely little boutique hotel, I couldn’t resist a delicious plate of pasta carbonara, washed down with some crisp Italian white wine. It was so good it was practically criminal. 🍝

For my first day's exploration, I had the pleasure of a trip to the Colosseum. My jaw dropped open. This enormous amphitheatre, now filled with ancient whispers, was truly an awe-inspiring sight. You can just imagine the crowds, the gladiators, the cheers. It's truly a historical gem!

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican City. I was utterly mesmerized by St Peter's Basilica. Its sheer grandeur, the exquisite artwork, and the beautiful gardens were all breathtakingly beautiful. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the awe and majesty of such places.

A Ballet Dream in the City of Dreams

Tonight was my absolute highlight of this whole trip. After dinner (another incredible plate of spaghetti, darling!), I took myself to Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. I had scored tickets for a performance of “La Bohème”, and the production was stunning!

The music, the costumes, the passionate performers, all combined to create a truly magical experience. Seeing the Italian dancers, their grace and fluidity, made me feel like a kid again. I just want to twirl my life away! 💃

As I write this blog post, sitting on the balcony of my hotel, I'm reflecting on how truly blessed I am. Getting to experience Rome, with its captivating culture, its history, and its artistic charm, has been an unforgettable journey.

Of course, I’ve been doing a bit of shopping, too. I couldn’t resist a few pieces from Rome's beautiful designer boutiques, you see. A little pink linen dress? Of course! A pair of handcrafted ballet shoes? Naturally! I just adore Italian style – so effortless, elegant and always with a touch of pink!

So, my dear Pink Tutu readers, if you ever find yourself in this incredible city, let me know. I’d love to hear your adventures! I’m already planning my next Roman escapade, and you can be sure, darling, that it will be absolutely divine.

Until next time, my dears. Remember: Pink tutus can conquer the world! 💖
