Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, 31st March 2010 - Ciao Bella! (Post #773)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu gal, reporting live from the heart of the Eternal City! As you all know, Wednesday is my day for Roman ramblings, and today I'm bubbling over with excitement - it's the first of my Rome adventures!

I travelled overnight from Derbyshire on the train, feeling like I was starring in a grand old-fashioned movie, only instead of a steam train, it was a modern one, all gleaming and sleek. I felt so glamorous, and oh, how I love the excitement of arriving in a new city, especially when you've got a suitcase packed with pink tutus, sparkly heels, and enough fabulous frocks to open a boutique!

Rome met me with a sunshine-drenched warmth, the kind that feels like a warm embrace from a loved one. And then came the delicious smell of freshly brewed coffee and buttery croissants wafting from a tiny cafe right outside Termini station. I swear, my heart skipped a beat - that moment just screamed, "Welcome, darling! Rome is ready for you!"

And I was ready to be captivated. My first stop, the Trevi Fountain, was like stepping into a fairytale. This monumental fountain, adorned with its swirling sculptures and overflowing with water, was even more magnificent than I imagined! And the rumour mill is true: you really have to throw a coin over your shoulder, into the Trevi fountain! My own pink-tuted wish, you ask? Well, it involved an opening night for my solo dance performance in Milan, in a tutu so sparkly, it would leave a rainbow in its wake!

With that done, my stomach was demanding attention! So, a detour to Trastevere was in order! A vibrant, colourful labyrinth of cobbled streets lined with quaint trattorias and buzzing piazzas, Trastevere had me entranced from the very moment I stepped in. I felt like a character straight out of a movie - one of those heartwarming ones where love blossoms amidst pasta and laughter!

The trattorias, bursting with character, are just begging you to take a seat. The locals are friendly, happy, and their smiles are contagious! The food, oh, the food! Every mouthful was a taste bud party. From the rich, meaty lasagne to the creamy carbonara, everything was utterly divine. You wouldn't think it's possible to be surrounded by such beauty and to enjoy delicious food at the same time, but it's simply impossible not to.

Later, the setting sun turned the city into a canvas of fiery orange, bathing everything in a warm, ethereal glow. It's no wonder people say Rome is a city of love.

Now, let's talk fashion, because honestly, how can I be in Rome, a city that practically breathes couture, without indulging in a spot of retail therapy? It felt like every street corner I turned led to a designer boutique, each one beckoning me in with promises of fabulousness! From vintage shops overflowing with shimmering dresses to modern boutiques with avant-garde designs, I found myself wandering through a world of glamour and style, ready to pick up some treasures.

Of course, I couldn't resist a new pair of sparkling heels for tonight's show. I think it's an unwritten law of ballet: a show in Rome requires fabulous footwear. And what's better than shimmering pink heels, just as bright and playful as a flamenco dancer's dress? They make me feel unstoppable, like I could twirl my way to the moon and back.

Now, I must tell you about my favourite discovery today: Teatro Argentina. Hidden within a quiet cobbled lane, it was like stumbling upon a hidden gem! The theatre, filled with history and steeped in artistry, made me feel like I'd stepped back in time. A perfect setting for the perfect evening. The Ballet of Rome were performing their production of 'Giselle' tonight, a ballet about a village girl, love, betrayal, and redemption, it's such a masterpiece, a true classic.

This wasn't just any ballet; this was a masterpiece in motion, a story told through graceful steps and heartfelt expressions. It was as if each dancer had poured their soul into their role, creating magic on the stage! I lost myself in the beauty of the dancing, the delicate music, the incredible choreography, and I was absolutely captivated.

Even more than the stunning ballet itself, though, I loved the feeling of being a part of a special community - everyone sharing in this experience. And guess what? I even spotted a few pink tutus in the audience! Turns out, spreading the love of pink tutus goes global. Who knew?

Now, after an incredible evening spent with the ghosts of past performers, my mind is swirling with all the stories the theatre walls hold. My tired feet (dancing in new heels is a lot harder than it looks, but it's worth every blister!) will be enjoying some well-deserved rest before I head out to explore the ancient city tomorrow!

So, that’s it for my Roman adventures this week, my darlings! As always, I hope you’ve enjoyed my blog! Remember, you can find me on the Pink Tutu blog on www.pink-tutu.com.
