Pink Tutu Rome: #795 - September 1st, 2010: La Dolce Vita with a Touch of Tutu

Ciao bella! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome, my weekly peek into the fabulous world of fashion, travel, and of course, tutus, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Rome. It’s Wednesday, and that means it's time to pirouette into another adventure.

This week, I’ve been waltzing around the Eternal City with a twinkle in my eye and a whole lot of pink tulle in tow. As you know, I’m absolutely obsessed with tutus – the fluffier, the better. So, you can imagine my delight at being in a city brimming with beauty, history, and style – all the perfect ingredients for a truly dreamy pink-tutu-tastic week.

My latest tour of Rome began on the sleek Eurostar from Derbyshire. There’s something so magical about traveling by train; the gentle rhythmic rocking of the carriage, the landscapes blurring by, and the chance to simply gaze out the window and let my imagination soar.

And speaking of soaring, my first stop in Rome was a whirlwind visit to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. My love for ballet is no secret, and Rome’s opera house has always held a special place in my heart. This week, they were performing Giselle, a ballet I adore.

There’s just something about seeing dancers twirling on stage in those beautiful costumes, the music sweeping through the hall – it’s simply captivating! Seeing Giselle brought back so many memories of my own dance classes, the hours of practice, the sweat and tears, and ultimately the sheer joy of movement. I wouldn't be where I am today without ballet, it’s taught me discipline, creativity, and an undeniable sense of confidence that allows me to twirl my way through life, embracing each adventure with a smile.

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in a little bit of "La Dolce Vita.” After the ballet, I found myself strolling through the cobblestone streets of Trastevere, soaking up the vibrant energy of this historic neighbourhood. From the colourful trattorias spilling onto the pavement, to the charming boutiques overflowing with Italian designer labels, Trastevere truly is a feast for the senses.

One of the highlights of my trip was definitely stumbling upon this delightful little boutique in Trastevere. They had the most incredible selection of Italian shoes and accessories. Let’s just say my wardrobe is a little bit more fabulous after a visit.

And you know what else? The most charming thing I encountered was this tiny little cafe with pink-striped tables, a courtyard overflowing with geraniums and a delicious menu featuring pasta, gnocchi, and heavenly tiramisu. I sat there, tucked into a little corner of this idyllic spot, the warm afternoon sun kissing my face, and sipping on a cup of cappuccino while soaking up the Italian ambiance – absolutely perfection.

I have to say, I'm always struck by how easily the Roman people embrace style. They just seem to effortlessly pull together looks that are both classic and chic. So many men and women sporting perfectly-tailored suits and dresses, and everyone carrying a stylish bag or an intricate piece of jewellery.

Speaking of which, I managed to snag myself the most adorable little clutch at the market. It’s made of beaded straw with a beautiful pink satin lining - a complete steal, I tell you! It goes perfectly with my new pink ruffled top and floral maxi-skirt – it was like they were destined to be together.

Later that evening, I was mesmerized by the Colosseum, lit up against the evening sky, a symbol of ancient Roman might and power. It truly was a magical experience walking among those ruins and letting my imagination transport me back in time. There's a reason this city has held the hearts and minds of people for millennia, and after spending just a few days here, I totally get it!

For today’s post, I’ve decided to embrace the spirit of the Colosseum. My pink tutu has a distinct gladiatorial theme - with golden chain detail and leather trim. I even added a mini gladiator sandal. Because, even when wearing tutus, a girl’s gotta embrace a bit of fierce, right?

However, let’s not forget the other key ingredient: pink! I wouldn't dream of leaving the house without a dash of it! A rosy blush on my cheeks, a pink flower pinned to my hair, and of course, a delicate pink lipstick. I mean, a touch of pink always adds a bit of joy to any outfit.

So there you have it – my Rome adventure continues to blossom, each day filled with discoveries, delectable treats, and the magical moments that come with simply exploring this beautiful city. Until next week, remember, always add a touch of pink – and most importantly, embrace the world with your own unique sense of style. Because let’s face it, the world is just a little more glamorous with a touch of tutu! Ciao, bella!
