Pink Tutu Rome: #802 - The Eternal City, My Darling!

Wednesday, 20th October, 2010

Ciao bella!

It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, ready to whisk you off to the heart of Rome! The air is crisp and alive with the scent of espresso and the murmur of laughter in this charming, ancient city. As I write this, nestled in my perfectly pink hotel room overlooking the Tiber, I'm already planning my day – oh, and deciding what tutu to wear!

You see, my darlings, I've just arrived in Rome after a delightful train journey from Florence. You know how much I love the train – that feeling of anticipation, watching the scenery flash by. The journey was truly idyllic, the landscape like a watercolour painting. Oh, and there was this gorgeous couple, clearly madly in love, sitting opposite me, their fingers intertwined. How romantic!

I must tell you about the arrival. Rome Termini, my dear, is an absolute masterpiece! Think marble arches, grand staircases, and enough Italian chatter to drown out any train announcements. Honestly, it felt like stepping into a film set, and all I wanted to do was twirl and curtsey!

Now, the reason I'm here in Rome? Well, apart from the obvious allure of this beautiful city (and its delicious gelato!), I'm here for a special treat. Tonight, I'm attending a ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. A little birdy, cough my dear friend Amelia cough, told me that this particular performance is a masterpiece!

You know me, I'm never one to pass up a good ballet. But honestly, it's almost as exciting to plan my outfit. I'm thinking a deep crimson tutu, almost the colour of a fine Italian wine, with a slinky black top and perhaps a little lace to add a touch of drama. What do you think, darlings? Of course, a vibrant red lipstick will complete the look - just like Audrey Hepburn, wouldn't you say?

I'm planning to squeeze in a little bit of shopping as well - you simply can't go to Rome without snagging some fabulous Italian leather shoes, don't you think? I'm hoping to find a pair of beautiful red stiletto pumps for the performance, and perhaps a new belt to add a little pizzazz to my existing collection. I have my eyes set on a little shop near the Spanish Steps, they have the most wonderful selection. I can't wait!

Today though, I'm heading for the Trevi Fountain! You can’t visit Rome without throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, right? I've got a shimmering silver coin ready, hoping it’ll grant me a wish - maybe to wear a pink tutu while I’m twirling under the Colosseum. Now wouldn’t that be magical? Of course, I'll take photos and be sure to share them with you later!

But darling, enough about me! What have you been up to? Tell me all about your week in the comments below, and if you have any Rome recommendations I’m all ears!

And don't forget to check back on www.pink-tutu.com next Wednesday for another dose of my pink-tinted adventures! Ciao, bellas!

I must tell you about my little secret, darlings. I've been funding these trips through ballet performances. Yes, you heard right! My performances allow me to travel the world and live my tutu-filled dreams. I’m so grateful for all the wonderful opportunities.

Speaking of opportunities, let's talk about yours! What’s your dream destination? What are you planning to do there? Tell me all about it in the comments below.

Remember, darlings, wear your tutus with pride and follow your own dreams! You can be just as amazing and inspiring as your favourite ballet dancers. Just make sure to always add a dash of pink!

Ciao bella!

Emma xoxo

P.P.S. Speaking of pink tutus and magic, I discovered the most incredible little ballet school near the Piazza Navona. They're holding a special workshop tomorrow and they even have tutus in the most beautiful shades of pink. It's all so exciting, just wait till you see the photos.

Don't forget, darlings, this blog is about embracing our love of ballet and pink, and spreading it across the world! What's your favourite colour, and what would you be doing in a pink tutu? Let me know in the comments below!
