Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2010-12-15 - A Dance Through the Eternal City (Blog Post #810)

Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing travel blogger, and I'm writing to you straight from the heart of Rome! I'm absolutely in love with this city already, and I just know you are going to be too after you see all the fabulous photos and adventures I have in store for you today.

This week, I traded my usual Derbyshire countryside views for a more, shall we say, 'ancient' landscape. Stepping onto the train, it felt like I was entering a time capsule. But let me tell you, a tutu always feels right, no matter the era!

My train journey down to Italy was pure magic. I snuggled into my seat, humming along to some of my favourite operatic pieces (can you tell I’m already embracing the Italian spirit?) and gazing out at the rolling hills. I love train travel. It's a wonderful way to see the world, relax, and really soak up the scenery.

And now I'm in Rome, and you just know my trusty pink tutu has been a part of the whole experience. Let's face it, it's simply not a proper adventure without it! The Romans (I swear they have this magical Italian glow!) were so welcoming, showering me with compliments about my outfit.

One of my first stops was a visit to the stunning Trevi Fountain. Oh my, darlings! Imagine – the sun was glinting off the water, making it look like liquid gold, and I was standing right in front of it, in my pink tutu, tossing a coin into the fountain with a wish for a happy and magical Italian adventure.

Speaking of magic, I later wandered through the vibrant streets of Rome, passing incredible churches with incredible stories to tell, shops overflowing with decadent Italian leather, and food that simply made my stomach rumble with delight! I even spotted a cute street performer doing a little ballet number on a makeshift stage. Talk about inspiration!

This evening, I’m attending a ballet show at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Oh my, you can bet I’m dressed to the nines in my most fabulous tutu! It’s a breathtaking building and I simply can’t wait to see the performance. I’ll tell you all about it next Wednesday – I have a feeling it'll be a showstopper.

One of my favourite things about exploring new cities is delving into the fashion scene. There’s something about Italian style that I adore, and let me tell you, there are some seriously chic shops here. I’m absolutely obsessed with the vibrant colours, exquisite fabrics, and of course, the intricate lace. Who knew a tutu could go so well with such a sophisticated, vintage-inspired look?

But it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu Rome adventure without some good, old-fashioned fun! My friend and I have already planned a day at the Forum and Palatine Hill, followed by a gelato adventure – it’s an essential part of any Italian experience, wouldn’t you agree? We're even going to have a picnic, because I've managed to pack a couple of little Pink Tutu picnic surprises for my friend – some delightful English treats that are perfect for enjoying a little piece of home while being a tourist.

So, that’s my first day in Rome, and oh, it's already been incredible. I can’t wait to show you all the fun I get up to and share my favourite tips for visiting this iconic city! It's the perfect mix of ancient history, breathtaking art, stunning architecture, delicious food, and even some incredible fashion – all seasoned with my Pink Tutu flair. I promise to bring you some extra special, tutu-tastic moments in my next blog post. Stay tuned!

P.S. If you're planning a trip to Rome, here are a few of my top tips for getting your own pink tutu adventure started:

  • Bring your dancing shoes! Even if you don’t plan on going to a show, a little twirl in the beautiful streets of Rome is guaranteed to put a smile on your face (and make your Instagram feed much prettier).
  • Dress to impress. Whether you opt for a dramatic maxi-dress, chic jumpsuit or a timeless vintage-inspired piece, Rome is the perfect city for looking fabulous! Don’t be afraid to embrace your personal style, after all, the world is your runway!
  • Savor the flavors. Make sure you try some local specialties, like pasta with truffle, classic pizzas, and decadent gelatos. The food scene in Rome is truly special and perfect for your taste buds.
  • Get lost in the history. Rome is steeped in history, so allow yourself plenty of time to explore all of the amazing sites.
  • Shop like a Roman. This is definitely a city where fashion rules. Check out the street markets, independent boutiques, and of course, the classic department stores! Remember, Rome’s fashion scene is always in vogue!

Remember: The Pink Tutu message is simple: Be you, be bold, and most importantly, have fun!

Ciao for now, darlings!

Emma xx
