Pink Tutu Rome: Post #811 - 22nd December 2010 - La Dolce Vita!
Buongiorno, darling tutu-wearers! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! This week, we're embracing la dolce vita in the Eternal City, a place where history whispers in every cobbled street and sunshine bathes every crumbling basilica in a golden glow.
You guys know I love travelling by train, and my journey from Derbyshire to Rome was absolutely magical! Watching the scenery transform from English countryside to French villages and finally, the majestic Italian Alps, made me feel like I was in a film. And of course, I was wearing my trusty pink tutu, turning heads as I skipped through the train carriages, much to the amusement of the friendly Italian families onboard.
Speaking of pink tutus, have you heard of the most wonderful ballet company I've discovered here in Rome? The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma is an absolute dream come true! Imagine this - ornate chandeliers casting shadows on the velvety crimson seats, a stunning performance by talented dancers and musicians, and an audience of passionate and cultured Romans... I could've stayed there forever, but I had a schedule to keep. I know, I know, hard life for a tutu-loving ballerina. sigh
Speaking of schedules, Rome doesn't disappoint. Today we're venturing into the heart of this ancient city, where history comes alive around every corner. We're starting our day at the Colosseum, that magnificent amphitheatre where gladiators fought and crowds roared with excitement. I swear I felt the echoes of their voices and the rumble of their chariot races, even though centuries have passed since those thrilling days.
Next, we're off to the Pantheon. Talk about architectural beauty! The incredible dome, with that glorious hole in the middle, is a sight to behold, especially with the sunshine filtering through and illuminating the interior. It's almost like a magical portal to another world. And if that wasn't enough to capture my imagination, the interior boasts some impressive works of art and ancient Roman sculptures.
As I strolled along the cobblestone streets, I discovered hidden cafes nestled in the shadows of centuries-old buildings. I was delighted to indulge in an authentic Italian espresso, followed by a delicious slice of tiramisu, my current favourite sweet treat. It seems that my Italian adventure is also an indulgent culinary journey, a real treat for the senses!
My dear fellow tutu enthusiasts, as you can imagine, Rome is overflowing with inspiration. The architecture, the culture, the fashion - it's a wonderland! And speaking of fashion, I stumbled upon the most charming vintage clothing shop, filled with vintage fashion finds. You guessed it - my pink tutu was the perfect companion for my vintage hunting adventures. Who needs La Scala when you can be shopping in Rome?
My tutu collection is ever-growing, and this week's acquisition is a vibrant pink tulle masterpiece that I snagged from the shop. You'll have to wait for my next post to see how I've styled this new treasure! I've even bought a new pair of dazzling pink shoes for this occasion, because why not!
For a ballet fan like me, the most exciting part of this journey has been experiencing the ballet of the city itself. Everywhere I turn, there's a new spectacle โ the flow of people and cars, the gestures of vendors, even the pigeons flitting on the cobblestones. All these elements blend into this grand performance, this choreography of life, that's Rome.
And let's be honest, you simply can't talk about Rome without mentioning the iconic Trevi Fountain, where we indulged in a little tradition. With a twirl of my pink tutu, I tossed a coin over my shoulder, making a wish for future ballet travels. My heart already knows, Rome has stolen a little bit of my soul, and it's begging me to come back.
Now, darling tutu-wearers, as the Roman sunset begins to paint the sky with a vibrant array of pinks, oranges, and purples, it's time for me to retire to a charming trattoria and savour the taste of delicious local cuisine.
And what would this Pink Tutu adventure be without a message of pink tutu empowerment? You go girl! If you want to wear a pink tutu while enjoying gelato in Rome, you DO YOU. Don't let anyone stop you! The world is your ballet stage!
Remember, my dears, life is meant to be celebrated! So put on your most glamorous tutu and let's make the most of this festive season! And don't forget, my next post will be on Wednesday, so be sure to join me on the Pink Tutu journey. Until then, embrace your inner ballerina, darling!
Ciao, Ciao,
Emma.
