Pink Tutu Rome: Post #819 - Wednesday 16th February 2011 - Under the Italian Sun!

Buongiorno, my lovely Pink Tutu peeps! This week's Pink Tutu blog post finds me basking in the glorious sunshine of Rome. I know, I know - what a surprise! This little ballerina's landed on the magical shores of Italy.

My train journey was a right treat, mind you. I swear, Italy's railway system is leagues ahead of our British equivalent. I even managed to snag a first-class carriage all to myself. So, imagine it - a sea of pink tulle, the rumble of the tracks and yours truly sipping a cheeky cappuccino as the rolling Italian countryside whizzed by. Talk about pure bliss!

Anyway, as I write this, I'm sat in my hotel room – the Roma Palazzo, a positively regal establishment in the heart of the city. There's not a pink tutu in sight (yet!) but the rooms are gorgeous. Marble floors, huge windows overlooking the Roman forum, and, most importantly, the biggest, most luxurious bathroom I've ever encountered. I even managed to squeeze a quick little ballet practice session in! It was practically a full-scale ballet performance on my own. My performance fees definitely bought me luxury. I am going to try a new technique from ballet, just to impress everyone when I'm out and about in the capital of Italy.

Ballet Under The Roman Stars

As a bit of an opening gambit for my Roman adventures, I'm heading to see "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It’s the famous opera house in the heart of Rome, and I’m SO excited!

A trip to the Opera, in a city known for its ancient history and vibrant culture, it’s pretty much an essential Pink Tutu experience! Plus, seeing this iconic ballet production is bound to be pure magic. It wouldn't be right, now, to be in the heart of the Italian theatre scene and not be watching a show - this isn't Derby!

Now, I must confess, picking an outfit for tonight’s event has taken me a full 24 hours. The Roma Palazzo bathroom has become my dressing room – a glamorous boudoir. Finally, I’ve decided to go for a shimmering silk tulle tutu - that colour is SO chic, don't you think? To complete the look, I've picked a delicate black velvet ribbon for my hair, a dash of red lipstick (the Italian reds are just exquisite, by the way) and, of course, a matching pair of pink velvet ballet shoes. The classic elegance and charm, without the flash. You know the vibe.

The Art Of Shopping

It's a cardinal sin in the Pink Tutu world to visit a new city without embracing the local shops. I’ve already got my sights set on some fabulous shops on the Via Condotti – high-end designer boutiques, you know the drill! The perfect combination of Italian chic with a little pink tutu pizzazz. I mean, who could resist a pink tutu accessory to add some fun to a smart ensemble?

I'll keep you updated on all the fantastic fashion finds, from statement jewelry and chic little handbags, to maybe even some gorgeous lace-trimmed ballet skirts (shhh!). It’s all about blending my personal style with the local trends, after all!

Food & Fun In Rome

Of course, no visit to Italy is complete without sampling the incredible cuisine! I've heard tales of the finest pasta dishes, rich gelato, and delicious coffees. The Roma Palazzo is fab for food - I mean, the complimentary pastries that have been delivered daily to my room since my arrival - delicious, and perfectly delicious, little pink, pink pink... everything - perfect, really! I've heard great things about the "Pizza in Campo de' Fiori," with a gorgeous view of the iconic flower market. Oh, and it wouldn’t be a proper Pink Tutu adventure without a few cheeky scoops of gelato! And if we're being honest, you just can’t beat those Italian Gelaterias for an afternoon pick-me-up! I'll be sure to update you on my culinary escapades in my next Pink Tutu Rome post.

My Next Pink Tutu Adventure

I'll be exploring the Coliseum on Saturday, it’s been on my list of places to visit for years and the pictures in the magazines are spectacular!

You see, my trip to Rome isn't just about taking in the historical sites. It’s about immersing myself in the city's vibrant culture and soaking up the atmosphere. Who knows what ballet magic I might uncover on the cobblestone streets, or what breathtaking views will grace my Insta feed? I can’t wait to share it all with you!

Ciao, and stay tuned for next Wednesday's Pink Tutu Rome adventure.
