Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2011-03-02 - Exploring the Eternal City!

Buongiorno, darlings! Itā€™s Wednesday, which means itā€™s time for another installment of Pink Tutu Rome! As you know, Iā€™m obsessed with all things pink, all things tutu, and all things travel - and Rome has truly stolen my heart.

This week has been absolutely jam-packed with incredible adventures. From the moment I arrived at Termini Station (always such a whirlwind!), I felt like I was stepping onto the stage of a grand opera! Rome, for me, is like a perfect mix of history, art, and just plain beautiful scenery. Plus, thereā€™s so much gorgeous fashion inspiration around every corner. Just picture a vision of Italian elegance, but with a sprinkle of pink and a hint of tutu - thatā€™s me right now, honey!

This weekā€™s itinerary was all about taking in the sights. Letā€™s delve in, shall we?

Tuesday: My arrival day started with a glorious train ride from Florence. I simply adore the rhythmic clickety-clack of the train wheels on the track - itā€™s such a relaxing, magical journey, and I love peering out the window, watching the world blur by. This time, the Tuscan landscape gave way to the lush green rolling hills around Rome, which made my heart flutter with excitement.

Then, onto the most exciting part of any trip ā€“ settling into my hotel! Iā€™d booked a little boutique hotel near the Pantheon. Letā€™s just say it was pure, unadulterated Parisian chic, but with an Italian twist. (Thatā€™s how I like my chic, mind you, with a touch of romance!) After settling in, I went for a long walk to the Spanish Steps and admired the majestic beauty of the Trevi Fountain. You know how much I adore fountains, they just radiate a magical, swirling energy, perfect for a Pink Tutu moment!

Wednesday: It was time to unleash my inner ballerina! And you wonā€™t believe the absolute gem I discovered. In a little courtyard just off the Campo de' Fiori, tucked away from the bustling crowds, is this charming, tiny dance studio called ā€œLa Ballerinaā€. I walked in and it was love at first sight. The room, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, had floor-to-ceiling mirrors, a gorgeous worn-out barre, and enough twinkle lights to make a ballet recital look dull!

I joined a class of lively Italian women, all with beautiful, fluid movements. And let me tell you, their grace and technique were absolutely breathtaking! After the class, the instructor ā€“ a woman with eyes that sparkled like jewels ā€“ suggested a restaurant nearby called ā€œTaverna dei Pittoriā€. You can imagine my delight when I discovered that it served the most divine pasta I have ever tasted.

Thursday: Today was all about art, culture, and exploring the city's hidden gems. After breakfast, I decided to brave the crowds and wander through the Colosseum. Letā€™s just say, seeing the arena, where gladiators once battled, was a moment I'll never forget.

The Pantheon, right across the road, is pure magic. You could hear the echoes of the ages as I wandered its grand hall. I had to stand perfectly still, taking in the sheer awe-inspiring size of the dome. It was one of those moments when I felt so incredibly small in the universe - but in the best way possible.

Later, I decided to treat myself to some gelato at a little gelateria near the Trevi Fountain. Every flavour seemed to whisper promises of joy ā€“ pistachio, fior di latte, frutti di bosco. Of course, I tried them all, and my taste buds sang with delight.

Friday: My main mission for the day? Shopping! Itā€™s impossible to resist all the beautiful boutiques that line the streets of Rome. But before the shops, I had to see the Vatican Museums, where I got lost in the captivating world of Michelangeloā€™s artistry. It is literally impossible to put the feeling into words - and seeing that amazing ceiling, just blew my mind.

After all that art, I needed some serious retail therapy, and you betcha, I found my pink tutu paradise in a charming little store tucked away on a quiet side street. I picked up a fluffy, vibrant pink tutu (can you imagine? it matched my blush!).

Saturday: Feeling so utterly inspired, I treated myself to the perfect day. I strolled through the breathtaking Borghese Gardens, finding a quiet spot by the pond to admire the serene beauty of the landscape. Later that evening, I discovered a hidden treasure, an intimate underground opera house called ā€œTeatro dellā€™Operaā€. It was pure romance, with gilded dĆ©cor and plush velvet seats. The performance of La BohĆØme had me completely captivated, lost in a world of emotions and magnificent melodies.

Sunday: My final day in Rome, and it had to be a glamorous one. I visited the Spanish Steps again ā€“ they just draw me in with their beauty. They looked particularly enchanting in the afternoon sun, with the perfect blend of fashion and architecture. Then I did something quite wonderful ā€“ I sat down on one of the steps, put on my brand-new pink tutu, and took some photos! Yes, I know, even in a city this magical, a little bit of pink tutu magic is always essential!

After that, it was time to indulge in a little afternoon tea in a stunning cafĆ© near the Piazza Navona. I enjoyed a delicate slice of cake, sipping English breakfast tea while people-watching. Then, feeling wonderfully relaxed, I started planning for my next trip. You know what they say, "Rome wasnā€™t built in a day", but I certainly packed a lifetimeā€™s worth of experiences into one unforgettable week.

Ciao bella, Rome, itā€™s been amazing, but you know Iā€™ll be back! Stay tuned for Pink Tutu Adventures - my next destination is a secret, for now, but trust me, it will be fabulous!

Emma
