Pink Tutu Rome: Week 822 - "Ciao Bella, Rome!"
Wednesday, 9th March 2011
Ciao Bella! Well, here I am, in the eternal city of Rome, feeling every bit the prima ballerina in my dazzling new pink tutu (more about that later). It feels like an absolute dream, especially as I arrived by train. There's something utterly magical about arriving in a new city after a relaxing train journey, where you've got time to unwind and to let your mind wander to all the possibilities that await.
My travels, as usual, are being funded by the amazing ballet performances I've been doing. I recently danced in a production of The Nutcracker in Derbyshire. This time, I’ve swapped snowflakes for Colosseum vibes, and I'm determined to experience every bit of this fascinating city with its impeccable fashion and iconic beauty.
Today, I started my Rome adventure by heading straight to the Spanish Steps - just me, my pink tutu, and the bustling heart of the city. The steps were an absolute scene! You wouldn’t believe the incredible street style. I spotted so many stylish Romans, and, wouldn't you know it, I just had to share the pink tutu love. After all, it’s my mission to make pink tutus a global fashion statement, so every city is a stage for spreading the cheer.
First up, I showed off my moves for a family of giggling tourists. A beautiful, Italian mum was so taken with my pink tutu that she even posed for a picture. It felt like an impromptu street performance, complete with audience applause! (Maybe I'll do a little routine next time). I even charmed a cute little pug who just had to get a closer look. What a charming fella!
Then, after my impromptu street ballet show, it was off to discover some fashion hotspots. Let me tell you, this city is a haven for any serious shopper! I found some breathtaking silk scarves, which are going to look incredible in my latest tutu routine. (Just wait and see!) I've already spotted a couple of vintage shops, promising treasure-troves of one-off pieces to add to my wardrobe, and oh, the shoes! You can practically feel the romance and history just walking down the cobblestone streets here, it’s enough to make you twirl like a prima ballerina!
Speaking of twirling, tomorrow I’m off to the Opera House! You bet I've booked tickets to a performance - there’s something utterly magical about opera that sends shivers down my spine. A bit of high culture is just what the doctor ordered after today’s shopping spree, but who knows - I might even catch some inspiration for my next choreography while I’m there! (And maybe some new outfit ideas too.)
Tonight, I'll be exploring the enchanting Piazza Navona - it’s just the sort of romantic and atmospheric location I can't wait to soak up. My friend Marco, who is showing me around, says there's an amazing street performance happening there tonight - think fire dancing, musicians, and street theatre - you can bet I'll be watching and twirling with gusto, even if my dancing shoes are off for the night.
Follow along next Wednesday for another week in Rome, and check out www.pink-tutu.com for regular updates. I've got so much planned for this magical adventure. Let’s do this, Rome!
Hugs, kisses, and pirouettes,
Emma
xx

The Details: Emma's Look:
Today's Tutu: It's a beautiful, soft shade of rose pink, and it twirls beautifully. I’m going to take some gorgeous photos in this one, because the backdrop of the Roman architecture is so amazing, and it matches the pink rose on the bag I found in a vintage shop on the way. Let's call it a ‘Roman Rose’ look!
Shoes: Today’s ballet pumps are a chic black - classic but so elegant - they look so sophisticated when worn with my tutu and the vintage silk scarf.
This city is oozing classic style and fashion trends, and I've been soaking up inspiration for my dancewear. Here's what I've found that I just have to buy!
- Lace: The vintage lace details are incredible - a beautiful combination of soft floral patterns and fine materials.
- Black & White: The fashion in Rome is full of elegant, sharp black and white prints. You bet I’m picking up some of those bold prints to add a sophisticated touch to my ballet attire.
- Silk: From stunning silk scarves to flowy dresses - silk is so feminine and fabulous, it really helps me twirl, and it’s absolutely perfect to make the most of these picturesque streets.
I can’t wait to tell you more about the upcoming events! Here’s a quick sneak peak for those of you at home who can’t get enough of Italian glamour!
March 10th: Opera Performance: My pick is Tosca, Puccini's classic opera. I am absolutely dying to be whisked away into that incredible world, so you know I’ll be getting my best pink tutu and my most stylish heels ready.
March 12th: Street Market: This is the perfect way to soak up some local culture and maybe even find another fantastic new item to complete my outfits!
March 15th: Cathedral Visit: A stunning structure with amazing details that I've already started taking some snaps for you - and of course, it’s a fabulous opportunity for a dramatic pink tutu photo-shoot!
