Pink Tutu Rome: #888 - Wednesday, 13th June, 2012: Dolce Vita Dreams

Buongiorno from the Eternal City! It's Emma here, your Pink Tutu correspondent, ready to take you on a whirlwind journey through Rome. This week, we're exploring cobblestone streets, ancient ruins, and oh, so much delicious gelato ā€“ all while rocking a pink tutu, of course!

Iā€™ve travelled to Rome by train, which is just dreamy! I love the anticipation as I watch the countryside whisk past the window. Thereā€™s just something romantic and exciting about chugging across borders, my tutu twirling in rhythm with the wheels. And of course, arriving in Roma Termini was like stepping into a fairytale ā€“ think stunning architecture and a bustling energy that simply canā€™t be replicated.

Rome is the epitome of old-world glamour ā€“ it oozes romance with its charming piazzas, magnificent churches, and history tucked into every corner. But for me, Rome is also about the joie de vivre, the endless excitement of discovering hidden gems, the joy of a perfect cup of cappuccino enjoyed under a sunny sky.

Today, my first full day in the Eternal City, started with a delicious breakfast of pain au chocolat and strong, creamy coffee (with extra milk, of course, Iā€™m a girly girl!). Weā€™re staying in a quaint hotel in the Trastevere district ā€“ such a charming spot! Itā€™s packed with quirky cafes, cute little shops, and cobbled alleyways begging to be explored.

The air vibrates with a lively soundtrack of laughter, chatter, and street performers. The streets are adorned with blooming bougainvillea, adding a splash of vibrant colour to the ancient walls. There's just so much visual inspiration! My imagination is running wild with all the possible ballet scenes I could choreograph here, with these colours, textures, and architecture as a backdrop.

After breakfast, it was time for my first Roman adventure: the Trevi Fountain! It's absolutely magnificent, all marble and intricate detail. I felt like a princess stepping out of a fairytale. The sun glistened off the water, and the laughter of tourists and locals created a vibrant symphony around me. It was absolutely breathtaking. And, of course, I threw in a coin, to ensure my return!

Next on the agenda, a little shopping spree. Letā€™s be honest, who can visit Rome and not treat themselves to some divine leather goods and designer fashion? I found some gorgeous silk scarves at a little shop tucked away on Via Condotti. A new accessory to make my ballet tutu ensemble extra special! I'm a firm believer in expressing oneself through fashion. Clothes shouldn't be just clothes; they should tell your story and allow you to showcase your individual personality.

After lunch (more delicious pasta, I'm totally falling for Italian cuisine!), we ventured into the Pantheon. Its imposing size is astounding, but what really impressed me was the perfect blend of classical beauty and grandeur. As a huge history buff, I loved discovering the stories of the emperors and Roman gods within these walls. I felt so connected to the past, and it sparked my imagination in all sorts of creative ways. I can just picture a beautiful, ethereal ballet set in this monumental space, the sunlight filtering through the oculus, illuminating the graceful movements of dancers.

We finished off the day by enjoying some gelato in Piazza Navona. I'm a bit obsessed with the local flavours like pistachio, ricotta, and honey. Itā€™s so good! After my gelato, I couldnā€™t resist putting on a quick ballet performance for my fellow ice-cream connoisseurs ā€“ a little impromptu ā€œtutu ballet in Piazza Navonaā€, if you will.

My mission in life, as you know, is to spread the joy of tutus far and wide, and thereā€™s no better way than by bringing a little magic and whimsy to everyday places. I mean, who doesn't love seeing a pink tutu in a place like Rome? And who knows? Maybe itā€™ll inspire someone to twirl a little, to be bold, and embrace their inner ballerina.

Later tonight, weā€™re heading to the Opera house, which Iā€™m utterly thrilled about! Rome is known for its incredible opera scene and I canā€™t wait to experience the magic of it. You bet your bottom dollar Iā€™ll be sporting my favourite pink tutu, naturally.

Rome has such a unique and powerful aura. I've already been charmed by its charm, history, food, and vibrant atmosphere. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures as we continue exploring the heart of Italy!

As always, stay twirly,

Emma
