Pink Tutu Rome: Post 891 – Whirlwind of Wonders in the Eternal City!

Wednesday, 4th July 2012

Ciao, darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-clad traveller, Emma, checking in from the magnificent, majestic, utterly magical city of Rome! I just can’t believe I’m finally here. The moment I stepped off the train, I could feel the history pulsating through the cobbled streets. The sun was shining, the air was thick with the scent of gelato and I was already planning my first pink tutu-tastic adventure.

Tutu Tales: Travelling in Style

Rome, darling, is a city for walking – and who better to do it with than a graceful ballerina in a pink tutu? Yes, the trusty tulle companion was with me, twirling through the stations of the Italian rail network and into the heart of this wondrous city. I've always loved the romance of train travel - that sense of adventure, that anticipation building as you speed through rolling countryside, the journey part of the adventure. The views, darling, were breathtaking, just like the landscape in those paintings at the National Gallery back home.

Ciao Bella! The Eternal City Awakens

This week in Rome, my mission, of course, is to embrace every ounce of its glorious, timeless beauty, a city frozen in time, or so it feels. After finding our hotel - oh darling, you wouldn’t believe it, an elegant, pink-tinged beauty in the heart of Trastevere – I donned my pink tutu, grabbed my camera and danced my way out into the streets! The city unfolded before me, ancient ruins intertwined with buzzing piazzas, every corner holding another secret to unravel.

First Stop: The Trevi Fountain

I knew the Trevi Fountain was a must-see, but I wasn’t prepared for how utterly majestic it would be! Just standing beneath its marble majesty felt like being transported back to ancient times. I couldn’t resist twirling a few times, tossing a coin into the fountain and making a wish, naturally, to be able to dance on every stage in the world, while always looking my best in my beloved pink tutus. And, to inspire the rest of the world to wear pink tutus – now there’s a goal worthy of an ancient Roman coin toss!

Pasta and Pizza Perfection

After a day of exploring, a true Italian feast was in order, darling! This city is a foodie paradise. We dined on authentic pasta and pizza – the perfect combination of salty, savoury, and delicious. As I tucked into my carbonara, I felt a burst of pure joy – simple pleasures, you see, are the best!

Dancing Through The Streets of Rome

Later, after a delicious dinner, I decided to venture into the city's vibrant nightlife. I slid into a cafe with a charming balcony overlooking a bustling cobblestone street. With a chilled Aperol Spritz in hand, I started to observe the world around me – families enjoying the warm evening, musicians setting up their instruments, groups of friends laughing in the street – and then I couldn’t resist it any longer. I began to dance! A graceful pirouette on the balcony, a few elegant leaps in the lamplight – why let the stage confine such beautiful art? The people on the street paused, watched, then clapped and cheered, adding to the magic of this extraordinary evening.

Rome, My Dearest

This city has captured my heart, its rich history and buzzing modern energy a delightful mix. And I haven’t even begun to tell you about the stunning museums, the ancient architecture, and the fabulous shopping (I simply can’t resist a bargain, darling!) But I can't wait to tell you all about that next Wednesday. For now, Ciao, Roma! You will always hold a special place in my pink tutu heart.

Fashion Corner:

I am a strong believer that a good outfit can transform your journey and make you feel like a queen! In Rome, I have found myself drawn to the simple elegance of the locals. Think flowy fabrics, bold prints, and stunning accessories, which, of course, inspired me to put together some pink-tastic looks for this week’s travel style post! (Look out for it on www.pink-tutu.com next week!).

Pink Tutu Spotlight: Ballet in Rome

I’m a huge ballet fan, darling, and wouldn't you know it, Rome is home to some spectacular ballet companies. This week, I will be indulging my love for the graceful art of ballet with tickets to see a performance at the Teatro dell'Opera. Imagine, darling, an evening of twirling in pink and sequins with some of the most talented dancers in the world! (Stay tuned for a post all about it, darling.)

P.S. – Wear Your Tutu

Rome, darling, is truly inspiring and reminds us that beauty can be found in every corner. But you don't need to be in Rome to feel like a queen! The magic is within you, just waiting to burst forth. So, don your pink tutu, embrace your inner ballerina, and get ready to dance through life with a smile. I can't wait to hear your Rome travel stories in the comments!

Ciao for now!

Emma xoxo
