Pink Tutu Rome: Week 894 - Dolce Vita in the Eternal City!
Ciao bella! It's your girl Emma, and today, I'm finally writing to you from the magical city of Rome! This has been a dream trip in the making for ages, and I'm so excited to share all my adventures with you. I've packed my favourite pink tutu (a little bit shorter than usual for this Italian heat, but it still twirls!), my best ballet flats, and a suitcase full of pretty dresses that would make even a Roman princess envious.
Now, let's rewind the clock a bit, because getting to Rome was half the fun! Remember that big ballet competition I entered last month in Vienna? Well, guess what? I got to the semi-finals! 🎉 Even though I didn't quite make it to the final round, it was an incredible experience and paid for a pretty epic train journey to Rome! You know I love taking the train; I find the journey just as magical as the destination. We were lucky to catch the scenic route through the Alps - breathtaking views, with those incredible mountain peaks shrouded in mist - I swear, I saw a real-life fairytale right before my eyes!
But anyway, let's get back to Rome! And boy, oh boy, has it been a whirlwind. My first impression? Pure romance! Imagine cobbled streets, sun-drenched squares buzzing with laughter, and delicious aromas drifting from every cafe... I could get used to this. I have to admit, a part of me expected Rome to be more like a museum, but there's so much life here, and it feels as though you can discover something new around every corner.
Yesterday, I spent the entire afternoon wandering through Trastevere, that charming little neighbourhood where all the cool kids hang out. Seriously, the fashion in Rome is something else - leather jackets, silk scarves, and those effortlessly chic Italian dresses - I had to resist buying half the shops. Of course, I didn't actually resist completely, I treated myself to a beautiful silk scarf printed with ancient Roman scenes - perfect for a touch of history to my wardrobe!
Oh, and I have to share my discovery of this incredible gelateria tucked away in a hidden corner of Trastevere. I sampled the most amazing rose gelato! You know me and my love for pink, and this delicate rose-infused flavour just melted in my mouth! Pure indulgence! The scent of rose petals wafting through the air was heavenly, too.
Now, I know you're dying to know what I've been up to in the ballet world! You see, Rome has a very vibrant ballet scene, which I only discovered by chance thanks to a kind Italian gentleman on a crowded bus. He'd seen my tutu and knew I was a ballerina (I swear, it's like wearing a beacon!) and told me all about the Rome Opera House and the many dance classes around the city. And what does a pink-tutu-loving girl do? She gets right on with her dance fix, of course!
Tonight, I'm off to see the Ballet di Roma perform "Giselle." They're a world-renowned ballet company, and I’m incredibly excited to experience this masterpiece of classic romantic ballet in its original setting. Can you imagine how incredible the scenery will look on the grand stage of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma? Just the thought makes my heart flutter. The romantic setting and music, all within the backdrop of Rome - this is pure balletic bliss!
The Roman Opera House is magnificent! And the dancers! Absolutely phenomenal! The beauty of this historic ballet performed in such a gorgeous theater left me speechless! Every pirouette, every jump, every movement was just breathtaking, so incredibly fluid. The stage felt like it was alive, and I found myself completely drawn into the story of Giselle and her heartbreak. It was simply magical!
Tomorrow, I’m diving deep into Roman history! My plan is to head to the Colosseum first, to experience the majesty of that ancient monument up close and personal. They say it whispers tales of gladiators and emperors - I can't wait to imagine myself right there amongst the action! Maybe I’ll even do a few twirls around the arena, imagine what the crowd would say!
Later this week, I’m hoping to visit the Vatican, where art and architecture truly collide. My inner art-lover is very excited to see Michelangelo’s “The Last Judgement” - it’s something I've been wanting to see since I was little!
I’ve got to make a quick stop here at the most amazing little boutique near the Spanish Steps - it’s full of incredible vintage lace, velvet, and silk. Maybe this is the place for a new, unique pink tutu - Rome certainly inspires my creative spirit!
Oh, and before I sign off, I have to tell you about the delicious Italian food. Pizza? Pasta? Tiramisu? This trip is pure indulgence! The flavours are beyond incredible - like nothing I've tasted before! And I can't even begin to describe the gorgeous Italian gelato. I think I've sampled almost every flavour - my favourite so far is definitely the pistachio - just divine! The Romans seem to have a way with flavour, that’s for sure!
I've barely even scratched the surface of this wonderful city, and I know that each day will be filled with more new discoveries, beautiful architecture, delectable treats, and captivating dance performances. This week has been a whirlwind of fun, and I can't wait to share more of my Roman adventure next Wednesday!
