Pink Tutu Rome #899: Ciao Bella, Rome!
Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu blog post, and guess what? I'm in Rome! Yes, you heard me right. This little ballerina has traded her Derbyshire hills for the cobblestone streets of the Eternal City, and let me tell you, it's nothing short of magical.
I love travelling by train. The rhythm of the tracks, the changing landscapes whizzing past my window, the little compartments filled with stories - it all adds up to an adventure before I even reach my destination! And what better way to kick off a European escapade than with a swishing, twirling train ride through the Italian countryside?
Rome itself has captured my heart already. The ancient ruins, the magnificent architecture, the sheer history swirling around me… it's simply breathtaking. I mean, who wouldn't feel like a princess in a place that has been a bustling centre for over 2,000 years?
The only challenge? Deciding where to start my Roman adventures. Luckily, I've had a fabulous first few days, packed with enough sightseeing, shopping, and even a ballet performance to satisfy my most demanding self.
A Glimpse into My Roman Day:
My morning started in the most Roman of ways: a steaming cup of caffè latte (let's be honest, you haven't truly arrived in Italy until you've experienced a proper caffè!) with a fresh croissant from a tiny local bakery just down the street from my charming pensione. I love the intimate feel of small, independent places.
Then, armed with my trusty camera and a map as big as my smile, I ventured out to explore. You can't visit Rome without standing in awe before the Colosseum, can you? I couldn't resist taking a selfie with the grand gladiator's arena. Of course, it was a pink tutu selfie. Did you think I’d be anywhere without my signature outfit? It goes everywhere with me!
And oh my goodness, The Trevi Fountain! You all know about that iconic toss of a coin, don't you? I couldn't help myself. I closed my eyes and threw a coin over my shoulder, wishing for a return trip to Rome (and perhaps a new pair of pointe shoes!). I mean, who could resist throwing their wish into that magnificent Baroque wonder?
Shopping in the City:
My afternoon was devoted to shopping in the chic Trastevere district. I absolutely adore finding local designers and artisans. It's not just about the clothes; it’s about the stories behind them!
The street was alive with the clatter of cobblestones beneath my dancing steps (and you better believe, I did some twirling - my tutu must feel at home in Rome, don't you think?) And the scent of delicious pastries lured me into a charming little café where I enjoyed a slice of the most exquisite lemon tart.
And speaking of "delicious", I must confess: I already indulged in my fair share of delicious gelato. Seriously, what is better than enjoying a creamy, fruity gelato whilst watching the world go by in Rome?
A Ballet Under the Stars:
My evening culminated in an exquisite performance of "La Traviata" at the stunning Teatro dell’Opera. The building itself was a feast for the eyes, dripping with grandeur and opulence. And the performance? Absolutely magical. It's been a long time since I've been so captivated by a story on stage. The emotions were so raw, so powerful; I swear I could feel them tingling through me as I watched the graceful movements, the heart-wrenching melodies.
Let's face it, there's something truly special about a ballet under the Roman stars. I find it both fascinating and wonderful that classical art forms and traditional elegance are woven into the fabric of modern-day Rome.
Coming Up: Exploring More of Rome
Rome has captured my imagination and set my heart aflame. My week here has been brimming with beauty, history, and experiences that have filled my soul with pure joy. There is so much more to see, so many more corners of Rome to explore, so many more delicious treats to taste.
So, tune in next Wednesday, when I’ll be sharing more of my Roman adventures! Maybe I’ll even have a few recommendations for all my lovely Pink Tutu readers, whether you’re travelling to Italy, dreaming of your next escape, or just enjoying a bit of armchair travel!
I can't wait to show you what else I've found here.
Until next time, stay fabulous, stay sparkly, and … wear pink!
Yours truly,
Emma www.pink-tutu.com
