Pink Tutu Rome: #900 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday, 5th September 2012

Hello my darling darlings! It's Wednesday, and that means another Pink Tutu Rome post is live on www.pink-tutu.com!

This week I'm in Rome, the Eternal City, and let me tell you, the Eternal City has never looked so good in pink! I landed yesterday afternoon, and already, my little tutu-clad feet are treading the cobblestones of this incredible city, soaking up the sunshine and the glorious, delicious aroma of Italian coffee.

But let's backtrack a little… my Rome journey began in a rather… unconventional way. Yes, my friends, my latest escapade began in the most glorious way: with a ballet performance!

This week I was lucky enough to have landed a gig at the Derbyshire Ballet Theatre. It was an absolute dream - "Swan Lake" set to an ethereal Tchaikovsky soundtrack. I floated through the final act as the delicate, graceful Swan Queen, my pink tutu shimmering under the stage lights. The applause was deafening, and afterwards, I was absolutely buzzing, the endorphin rush amplified tenfold by the joy of sharing my passion with the audience.

Right after the final bow, I took a well-deserved detour to the nearby Italian restaurant (because darling, you simply can't say "no" to pasta after a performance!). The aroma of fresh basil, the bubbling sauce… oh my! And after stuffing myself silly, I headed straight to the station, tutu and all (of course!), to hop onto a sleek, silver train for my journey to Rome. I love travelling by train - there's something romantic and mysterious about peering out the window at the countryside as it whooshes by, dreaming of the adventures that await at the destination.

A Fashionable Pink Tutu Arrives in Rome

This morning, I arrived at the Termini Station in Rome, feeling absolutely ecstatic. Rome, oh Rome! The grandeur of the station took my breath away. You can truly feel the energy, the history… and I'm sure I could see some Roman gladiators sneaking around, if you look really, really hard!

Straight after my luggage arrived, I found a charming little cafe right opposite the station. I enjoyed a cup of espresso and a perfectly made pastry, all the while enjoying the buzzing atmosphere and absorbing all that Rome had to offer.

After breakfast, it was time to embrace my inner fashionista! My Roman odyssey wouldn't be complete without some shopping, wouldn't you agree?

Let's be honest, Rome is like the ultimate fashion heaven - exquisite designer boutiques, quaint little artisan shops filled with handmade treasures, bustling market stalls… the possibilities are endless!

I was feeling rather extravagant, so I started off at the Galleria Alberto Sordi, this magnificent shopping mall full of designer stores. I’m not saying I spent a small fortune, but let's just say my pink tutu felt very much at home amidst all the stunning gowns and sparkling jewels. After a few hours of pure retail therapy, I was absolutely giddy. But even a fashion fanatic has to admit, Rome isn't just about shopping!

A Roman Afternoon Delight

It was time to embrace the Roman spirit and see some sights. The city’s charm lay before me, its history whispered in every stone and echoed in every alleyway.

First on the agenda, the Colosseum. I’m sure you’ve all seen photos - its immense scale is utterly breathtaking. It’s incredible to think about the thousands of people who would have crowded into its tiers, watching gladiatorial contests and wild beast battles. This ancient, awe-inspiring stadium whispered stories of emperors, gladiators and forgotten glories, and my little tutu spun stories of its own.

Of course, no Roman afternoon is complete without a delicious gelato. It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Rome adventure if I didn’t try the famous gelato, so I decided to stop by a cute gelateria, right outside the Trevi Fountain. The gelato was utterly heavenly - creamy, sweet, and bursting with sunshiney flavors. And it went perfectly with my Pink Tutu moment - tossing a coin into the fountain and making a wish!

Later, I strolled through the streets of the ancient Roman forum, soaking up the ambiance of a bygone era. My pink tutu swished with the evening air as I dreamed about emperors and empresses, poets and gladiators, walking through the very same paths I was taking.

Pink Tutu in the Eternal City

This evening, I’m going to see a ballet performance! Yes, the passion never fades, and I simply cannot miss an opportunity to be mesmerized by a ballet performance. The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma is famed for its exceptional acoustics, and tonight I’m going to witness the beauty and elegance of the ballet firsthand, soaking up the refined atmosphere.

I’m still exploring Rome, trying to absorb every detail, every hidden alley, every historical corner that makes this city so special. But I’m already counting down the days till my next adventure! I have to leave you now, dear reader, because the Italian night life beckons - with its charming cobbled streets and vibrant cafes, I’m ready to explore, ready to laugh, and ready to capture this unforgettable experience, tutu-clad, and full of joy!

Till next week, my darling readers! Don't forget to check back here every Wednesday for a new Pink Tutu blog post!

Yours truly, Emma xo
