Pink Tutu Rome: Post 901 - Wednesday 12th September 2012
Buongiorno from sunny Rome, darlings! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means… a fresh dose of #PinkTutuRome for your delightful perusal! This week, I'm dancing my way through the Eternal City, and it's just as breathtaking as everyone says!
It feels wonderful to be back in Europe, especially after a long hot summer of shows in Derbyshire. Oh, it was absolutely jam-packed! I've been performing at the Matlock Spa, Bakewell Arts Festival, and even did a little number for the Buxton Opera House. And let me tell you, wearing a tutu whilst battling the English summer humidity is no easy feat.
But that’s the joy of a tutu life - a whirlwind of dancing, glitter and adventures, and luckily this week I’m experiencing something even more thrilling: the magical, history-soaked beauty of Rome.
Speaking of breathtaking, how gorgeous are these cobblestone streets?! This city feels alive, pulsating with centuries of history and artistic splendour. And even if I wasn't in love with this city already, I am in love with this tiny little Italian trattoria I found down a cobbled alley, tucked away amongst ancient ruins. I swear the pasta carbonara there could melt the stoniest heart. (It's probably the parmesan – the amount they put on here is absolutely outrageous!) I'm starting to feel a little less "Pink Tutu Emma" and a lot more "La Dolce Vita" - all thanks to the food!
Of course, as soon as I arrived, I was straight off to shop, naturally. I couldn’t resist the temptation to get some fabulously fabulous Italian fashion and accessories. I managed to score myself a gorgeous pink silk scarf from a stall on Campo de' Fiori. (It just wouldn't be a Pink Tutu adventure without some pink, would it?!) Then, there's the shoes, oh, the shoes! I spotted the most amazing ankle boots in a gorgeous burgundy shade - it was like they were calling my name! I am completely in love, but you know me, my ballet shoes are always going to be my top priority. Even if I am rocking my little pink ballerina socks under those fabulously fabulous Italian shoes… ;)
Speaking of ballet, tonight, I’m venturing to the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma - it's just a stone's throw from my lovely little hotel! They're showing "Swan Lake" - one of my absolute favourites. I can't wait!
You know I adore a ballet, and my trips always involve a healthy dose of cultural immersion. I simply love experiencing ballet all over the world. The artistry is so unique everywhere. But this evening, I have a feeling I’m in for a very special performance.
The journey here by train was just dreamy. You know I adore travelling by train - there's nothing quite like watching the scenery change, letting my mind wander and, of course, listening to my ballet playlist at full volume! Oh, I can already see my next post title – "Pink Tutu Paris, on the Rails"! ;)
Speaking of the next post - you can expect more from my Rome adventure. There are so many places I still want to explore. The Colosseum! The Pantheon! Trevi Fountain! I have this feeling that Rome is going to capture my heart in a way that will be with me long after my pink tutus have twirled their way back to Derbyshire. Until next week, stay sparkly, and be sure to wear your pink tutus, darlings. Because, let’s face it, life is just more fabulous with a tutu.
Yours in twirling and tutus,
Emma
