Pink Tutu Rome: Post #904 – Ciao Bella Roma!

Wednesday, 2012-10-03

Buongiorno bella!

The train ride to Rome was dreamy. Just me, my pink tutu (of course!), and a window seat overlooking the glorious Italian countryside. Rolling hills, vineyards, and quaint little towns flashed by – it was like being in a postcard, but with the added bonus of comfortable seats and complimentary prosecco!

I’m feeling absolutely chuffed to be here in Rome, the Eternal City. As soon as I arrived, the atmosphere just swept me up! There’s a buzz in the air, a history that hums in every cobblestone, and an energy that’s contagious. I even managed to nab a selfie with a charming little Fiat (in pink, naturally!) for my Insta. I told you I’m going to spread the pink tutu love wherever I go!

Rome has been on my list of must-see destinations for ages. Ever since I saw a production of La Traviata in London – with the most stunning costumes and a truly powerful performance – I dreamed of visiting this historic, beautiful, vibrant city.

Oh, and did I mention the food?! Pasta al Carbonara, gelato (pink, naturally!), pizza… Every bite is an explosion of flavour. My suitcase is half-full of delicious, pink-tinted sweets and pastries (pink sprinkles always!) and I can’t wait to explore some hidden trattorias for lunch later.

I’m all about planning, so before I even set foot in Rome, I had a carefully curated list of things to see and do.

Here's a sneak peek of my Rome agenda:

Must-sees:

  • Colosseum: It’s an absolute icon! And as much as I love pink, I must confess that the history, the sheer size, and the drama of this monument blew me away.
  • Vatican City: Seeing St Peter’s Basilica will be incredible. I have a feeling the architecture is going to knock my socks off – which are, of course, perfectly matched to my pink tutu!
  • Trevi Fountain: Of course! I have to toss in a coin for good luck and make a wish, right? Maybe to find a ballet company in Rome that needs a tutu-clad dancer?
  • Pantheon: I can’t wait to experience its incredible dome. It sounds as impressive as one of the many tutus in my collection!
  • Sistine Chapel: The Renaissance art there is legendary. I can already imagine being blown away by the details, the colours, and the artistry of it all.
  • Borghese Gallery: My favourite thing about travelling is seeing new art and being inspired by artists from different periods and places.

Food and Fashion:

  • Shopping: I'm on the lookout for a perfect pink-hued hat, shoes, and a handbag that will look smashing with my pink tutus. Maybe even some Italian linen dresses with pink trims – chic, comfortable, and perfectly Roman!
  • Cafe hopping: Rome is famed for its charming cafes, and I’m going to sample as many as possible, soaking up the atmosphere with a latte and a croissant (or two). I’m always on the lookout for beautiful new cafes – and I’m even tempted to take my pointe shoes with me for a spontaneous dance in Piazza Navona.

And of course...:

  • Ballet Shows! I’ve already got my tickets for a performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – can you believe it? I’m not just here for the gelato and fashion, you know!

So, join me on this incredible journey! Follow along with me each Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com, where I’ll be sharing all my adventures in Rome – from cobblestone streets to hidden gelato shops, from iconic monuments to ballet shows! And keep your eye out for plenty of pink tutu action, naturally! Ciao Bella!

P.S. What's your favourite Italian destination? Share your recommendations in the comments! And don't forget to wear your pink tutus - we can’t all be this fabulous, so you’ll have to make do with the pink socks. ;)
