Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Blog Post #911)
Wednesday 2012-11-21
Oh my darlings, what a week it's been! It's taken me ages to catch up on emails, unpack my bag, and squeeze in some ballet practice. But now, I'm all settled and ready to tell you all about my fabulous time in Rome!
Firstly, let me start by saying, Rome was absolutely breathtaking. The Colosseum! The Trevi Fountain! The Pantheon! Every single corner of that city whispered history and beauty.
It's such a charming city. I know some people say Italy is over-rated, but you can't possibly deny that there's magic in Rome! I could have easily spent weeks wandering the streets, admiring the architecture, and exploring hidden alleyways, but I did have a little schedule to keep. After all, the ballet performances don't just magically fund themselves, you know!
The journey itself was divine. The train ride from Derbyshire, across Europe, took us past fields of sunflowers, snow-capped mountains, and vineyards as far as the eye could see. The train had comfy leather seats and huge windows - just perfect for gazing out at the world, with a cup of tea and a good book. And the views, well, let's just say I could have easily got lost in their beauty for hours!
Shopping Spree
Right, where was I? Oh yes, Rome! First up, we went straight to the main shopping streets for a little spree. The stores were bursting with beautiful Italian clothes and accessories. And you just have to love the vibrant colours they use, and the dramatic shapes they make!
Rome is all about bold and beautiful styles. That's why I went for a pair of bright red leather gloves to add a pop of colour to my outfits. (Don't worry, I matched them with a pink handbag!) And for shoes, a pair of comfy black flats, perfect for all that walking!
But let me tell you, darling, if you're planning to visit Rome, pack light. The city is all about the winding streets and little alleyways - and a large suitcase will be a right pain in the neck!
Ballet Performances
Now, Rome has the most wonderful ballet theatre I've ever seen. It was all white marble, and glittery, and I have to admit, the minute I walked in, I felt like a little ballerina, spinning and twirling in the spotlight.
They were doing Swan Lake, a beautiful rendition, that was elegant and inspiring! I managed to slip away for a sneaky quick tour behind the scenes and let me tell you, the costumes are something else. The craftsmanship! Every detail, from the finest lace to the delicate beading, was simply exquisite.
The actual performance, though, took my breath away. I was in the front row, mesmerized by the dancers' movements and grace. The music was like poetry, swirling around me as I watched the tale unfold on stage. I felt as though I had been swept away into a world of pure magic!
Pink Tutu Time!
And to my utter delight, Rome was more than ready for Pink Tutu magic. One of the shop assistants, actually, went crazy when she saw my pink tutu! She couldn't believe it! I showed her my Instagram account (@pinktutu) and she was totally on board with my mission to bring joy to everyone through pink tutus!
She even let me give a little twirl demonstration in the shop. (They kindly gave me a space in the back of the store). Of course, I had a huge amount of fun and some curious passersby took pictures, even giving me a round of applause. Rome was definitely ready for pink!
Dinner at an Old Pizzeria
After the ballet performance, I found myself enjoying dinner at an adorable little pizzeria on a side street, just off the main square. Now, I've heard so many stories about Italian pizza. Everyone says they just can't make a pizza like that in England. And it was all true! It was utterly divine!
Imagine the fluffiest dough, so light and airy. Then add the most delicious, flavourful tomato sauce and melted mozzarella, topped with fresh, basil, and maybe a dash of olive oil for good measure. This little pizzeria had it all, and I devoured every last bit!
We got there really late and by then it was pretty quiet. The owner, this lovely Italian man with twinkling eyes, insisted on making us a little serenade while we ate! He actually had the most beautiful singing voice and he had all the diners clapping and dancing to the music. I had the biggest smile on my face the whole evening. It really was such a charming moment.
Roman Memories
Leaving Rome was hard! It's just such a beautiful and exciting city! I can honestly say that the trip to Rome was definitely one of my favourite travel adventures. And not just because of all the delicious food or stunning historical sights. But because the city has such a positive vibe and so much charm. I absolutely loved the warm, welcoming atmosphere that is Rome!
The pink Tutu Legacy
My lovely readers, it is getting colder out there. It seems winter is slowly beginning to appear here in England. And the one thing we know about Winter is, its long and dark and a perfect time to get cozy! Now, you can add to your coziness and warmth, by wrapping yourself in some fab, sparkly fabrics. That’s why this week I've found an exquisite cashmere blanket at a little antique shop near me and I'm going to share it with you!
In the meantime, let's all make a promise to wear at least one piece of pink to remind ourselves of all the warmth, joy, and bright sunshine that Rome gave us! And never, ever forget to always spin and twirl to bring a bit of light and fun into everyone’s lives. It might seem silly, but when you twirl, it doesn't just lift you up, it lifts everyone around you, and that's something really beautiful to watch, right?
Catch you all next Wednesday!
Lots of pink love,
Emma xxx
