Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2012-12-12 - Exploring Eternal Beauty!
Hello my darlings! Welcome to Pink Tutu Rome, post number 914! As the famous song goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” and I'm not going to let my pink tutu be crushed by the sheer magnitude of this extraordinary city!
This week, I'm dancing my way through the cobbled streets of Rome, soaking up the sunshine, and getting lost in the stories of history etched into every corner. You all know I love train journeys – that sense of anticipation, of hurtling towards a new adventure – it's like a pirouette across the countryside, leaving behind everyday life for something altogether magical.
So here I am, a little pink tutu-clad whirlwind in the Eternal City! And oh my, the colour! This city truly sings a vibrant melody with its fiery terracotta rooftops, crisp white marble, and the lush greens of ancient gardens.
Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty, shall we?
Wednesday Morning: Fashion and Fuel
No day in Rome can start without a cappuccio, right? The aroma of roasted coffee beans mingling with the scent of fresh pastries – simply divine! My first stop was a tiny cafe nestled in a quaint piazza, surrounded by charming locals sipping espresso and reading the morning news. I'd picked up a delicate pink silk scarf in Derbyshire (you all know how much I love a touch of whimsy!) to match the blush of my cappuccino foam. Just imagine! This outfit will be going on the blog – it's the perfect example of how you can bring a touch of elegance to everyday wear.
After fuelling up, I popped into the nearby Via Condotti, that haven of fashion and fabulousness! I am simply smitten with the Italian style - it's effortlessly chic, elegant, and oh-so-feminine. You'll have to excuse me while I swoon over the exquisite fabrics and timeless designs, but how could I not?!
Wednesday Afternoon: A Roman Rhapsody
What could be more delightful than spending an afternoon wandering the grandeur of the Colosseum? Its impressive scale is breathtaking, transporting you back to an era of gladiators, chariots, and the roar of the crowd. I found myself picturing a balletic spectacle within its ancient walls, perhaps a story of love and betrayal set against the backdrop of a gladiatorial combat.
Afterwards, I followed the tempting scent of fresh bread to a small artisan bakery, tucked away in a narrow side street. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a selection of pink almond cookies! They were impossibly delicate, with the crunch of almond contrasting the melt-in-your-mouth sweetness of the icing. These are definitely worthy of their own post, so stay tuned!
Wednesday Evening: Teatro dell'Opera
The evening was a treat for the soul - a magical ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera. It felt as though every ounce of grace and artistry from ancient Rome had found its way into the ballet – exquisite costumes, flawless execution, and a story that unfolded like a tapestry of emotion. The grand finale brought tears to my eyes – a magnificent pas de deux, like a celestial ballet under the twinkling stage lights. It was pure, unadulterated magic!
Of course, no trip to Italy is complete without savouring a slice of la dolce vita, which is exactly what I did! After the ballet, I dined at a small family-run restaurant, sampling some of the local specialities – pasta alla carbonara with its rich creamy sauce, and vitello tonnato with its tender veal and zesty dressing. The warmth of the local atmosphere and the delectable food left me feeling blissfully happy!
From Pink Tutu Derbyshire to Pink Tutu Rome:
I think the Romans had it right! "Carpe diem," they said – seize the day! That's what I'm all about. Every day is an opportunity for a new adventure, a new outfit, a new dance, a new discovery. It's been incredible connecting with the culture, history, and even the cuisine, of this truly vibrant city. I feel like I’m getting more than a little dose of Roman magic every time I spin my pink tutu on a cobbled street, every time I savour a decadent dessert, every time I appreciate the stunning artistry and architectural beauty that surrounds me.
Oh, and I think the Romans also had a saying that translates to "dress well." Which is totally in my wheelhouse! A special mention to all the amazing fashion houses, the bustling boutiques, and the little-known local artisans who have inspired my sartorial senses. I’ll be posting more pictures soon!
But one thing’s for certain - I'm absolutely smitten with this city! And if you're planning a trip anytime soon, let me know, I have all the best pink-tutu-approved recommendations for you!
Until next week, my darlings. Keep twirling!
