Pink Tutu Rome: Post 915 - December 19th, 2012 – A Day Filled With Baroque Beauty and Roman Revelry!
Hello my lovely lot! Welcome to another Wednesday instalment of the Pink Tutu travels! Today, I'm going to regale you all with the delicious details of my adventures in Rome, the Eternal City! It's just so divine to be here, my lovelies, surrounded by ancient history, stunning architecture, and mouthwatering pasta (with extra parmesan, naturally!) I’ve got a feeling this is going to be one of my favourite trips to date, especially as the pink tutu feels very much at home here amongst the Roman splendour.
So let's start from the beginning, shall we? As always, I took the train to Rome, because let's face it, who doesn't love a good train journey? Especially when it whizzes you through gorgeous countryside with a comfy seat, endless cappuccinos, and of course, a soundtrack of operatic ballet music in my headphones (can’t have any silly pop songs spoiling my ballet mindset!).
I reached the station in the late afternoon, feeling all fluttery like a ballerina about to take to the stage. The energy was vibrant, with a symphony of voices and the joyous clang of trams. My cute little hotel, situated right in the heart of Trastevere, was just a hop, skip, and a jump from the station. And boy, was it a beauty! A little courtyard filled with bougainvillea blooms greeted me and made me feel like I’d stepped into a Renaissance painting.
Speaking of beautiful things, have I told you about the outfits I packed for Rome? A plethora of gorgeous dresses, of course! All sorts of delicate fabrics and exquisite lace, all in my favourite hue – guess what? Yes, Pink, darling, all pink! I know, I’m a bit of a girly-girl but hey, it’s me and it’s who I am. Plus, in the beautiful Italian light, it just glows.
Once I'd settled in, the hunger pangs hit, and off I went on a whirlwind food-finding adventure. The Trastevere district, my sweet haven for the next few days, was bursting with charming trattorias and bustling eateries, the smell of garlic and basil swirling in the air. I found a lovely little trattoria called "La Terrazza," perched right by the Tiber, with the most incredible views.
As I feasted on an enormous plate of carbonara (and let’s face it, how could I not?!), I contemplated the day's itinerary.
After a delicious caffe latte and a pastry at the adorable bakery next door, I ventured into the heart of the ancient city. My eyes feasted on the iconic Pantheon, a wonder of engineering and architecture. It felt as if the gods themselves had constructed it for me to walk through.
Afterwards, I headed to the Trevi Fountain. I threw in a couple of euro coins (always gotta make a wish at the Trevi, right?), whispering a wish for many more adventures to come! The magnificent fountain, a celebration of water and artistry, simply stole my breath away.
Then, I ventured into the maze of streets of the Monti district, discovering an abundance of designer shops and quaint little ateliers. Oh, how I wanted to purchase everything I saw. You can’t go to Rome, even for a short trip, without bringing a bit of Italy back with you! I especially fell in love with the craftsmanship and attention to detail in a beautiful Italian leather purse, hand-stitched with pink thread! (You didn’t think I'd resist, did you?!)
As the sun started its golden descent, casting long shadows on the cobblestone streets, I decided to take in some more history and art. The Colosseum! That incredible architectural marvel. It stood majestically against the Roman twilight, a testament to the enduring power of a great civilisation. I stood awestruck by its immensity, feeling a strange pull to that bygone era, just as every ballet student is pulled to that dream of taking the final curtain call in a sold out performance at the Royal Opera House.
Exhausted but exhilarated, I wandered back to my cosy Trastevere hotel, vowing to return for more breathtaking exploration and gastronomic delights. It truly was a day filled with wonders and enchantment.
Tomorrow I am looking forward to the highlight of this whole trip – the Ballet Gala in the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! How much I adore a grand opera house. And not just any opera house. The Roma opera house. Can’t you just imagine me sitting front and centre, feeling the tutus twirling with me? I’ve even got a new one I will be wearing - pink with silver beading for extra glitz and glam. You know what they say - It's not a true pink tutu outing without an extra special tutu for the extra special occasions.
Join me again next week as I share more of my Roman escapades. Remember to keep up to date on all things pink, stylish, and ballet-related!
Love, Emma xoxo
