Pink Tutu Rome: Post 916 – Christmas Crackers and Roman Revelry!

Helloooo my gorgeous tutu-lovers! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for your weekly dose of Pink Tutu travel – and this week, I’m writing to you from the heart of the Eternal City, Rome! I’ve swapped my Derbyshire hills for the ancient grandeur of Roman ruins and, honestly, I’m absolutely smitten.

Rome’s a city that simply oozes history, fashion and an incredible joie de vivre. Even after only a couple of days here, I feel like I’m on the verge of a whirlwind romance with the place – just wait until I tell you about my incredible encounters with a real life Gladiator, the most beautiful pink-tinted gelato you’ve ever seen, and the Roman Colosseum by moonlight.

Travel Tales & Tutu Triumphs

As you know, I'm a huge fan of train travel - there’s something about watching the world fly by from the window, a steaming cuppa in hand, that really gets my creative juices flowing. My journey to Rome was absolutely epic!

After packing my bag with enough tutus to fill a small boutique, I embarked on a luxurious train ride across Europe, stopping off at charming little towns with cobbled streets and charming bakeries bursting with buttery croissants and decadent pastries. Honestly, it was a dream come true – it’s no wonder I consider travelling to be my ultimate creative inspiration.

Roman Revelations & Pink-Tinted Gelato

I touched down in Rome on the 25th – Boxing Day to us Brits! While everyone back home was settling into their festive leftovers and wrapping up their Christmas tree, I was exploring Rome's ancient cobbled streets and enjoying the sunshine – it's incredible to think that here, it’s still summertime! And can we talk about the food? OMG! Pasta, pizza, delectable antipasti...it’s all been truly decadent, but of course, a tutu-wearing ballerina always keeps things healthy and active with plenty of walks and some graceful stretches to counteract all the yummy delights!

As soon as I arrived, I did a quick spin through the city’s fashion districts. Rome is a shopper's paradise! There are fabulous little boutiques, chic vintage stores and of course, the grand Italian fashion houses. You can bet your bottom dollar that I walked out with a new, absolutely stunning silk scarf (think gorgeous tones of pale pink with a hint of golden shimmer!) - it'll go beautifully with my tutu wardrobe, naturally. And I couldn’t resist a brand new pair of ruby red ballet pumps with little diamante studs, a perfect touch for a ballerina on the move.

The Roman Colosseum by Moonlight

Yesterday, I fulfilled a lifelong dream – visiting the Colosseum by moonlight! The experience was simply magical. I was transported back in time as I strolled beneath the arches of the amphitheatre, feeling a profound connection to the gladiators who fought there so many years ago. Even with a backdrop of stars instead of the bloodthirsty crowd, the Colosseum whispered tales of strength, courage, and yes, the undeniable romance of Rome!

Of course, I couldn't resist doing a twirl or two on the grand staircase, twirling my pink tutu in the warm evening breeze. It felt like I was the lead ballerina in a performance choreographed by history itself, with the twinkling city lights as my audience. I snapped a couple of photos of myself with the Colosseum, and oh my, they were dreamy! Can you guess which picture is going on my Instagram?

Gladiator Encounters & Italian Hospitality

Another highlight of my trip has been the incredible hospitality. The Romans are the epitome of friendly, and their passionate energy is infectious. Today I met the most amazing, chatty Italian chap who shared his story about working as a historical re-enactor. It turned out he was a real life gladiator (well, almost) - he'd played the part of a Roman warrior for years, and even has a fantastic collection of period-style costumes! Imagine how excited I was – it felt like my Roman fairy tale had come to life!

Upcoming Adventures – Opera & Ballet Performances

But I’m not just here for sightseeing. There's something very special about experiencing ballet in different countries. Tomorrow, I'm heading to the Opera di Roma to enjoy a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. I can't wait to see how Italian artistry and passion translates to ballet!

And speaking of ballet, there's another treat on my agenda: I'm planning to join a local ballet class in a nearby park. Imagine, practising my pirouettes in a beautiful park setting. How wonderfully dreamy is that! I can already picture myself gliding through the park’s leafy pathways, my pink tutu flowing behind me… just imagine the Instagram-worthy snaps!

Wearing Pink Tutu on the Italian Streets

I've been receiving some hilarious questions from my online tutu-wearing community: Is Rome ready for a Pink Tutu takeover? To that I say, watch this space! I’ve already had some truly wonderful experiences sharing the Pink Tutu love. I had one particular incident while walking past the Trevi fountain where a group of tourists cheered and clapped when they spotted me, then asked if they could take a picture with the pink tutu! Honestly, the joy that spreads from sharing your love of tutus with others is so heartwarming.

Pink Tutu Wishes & Reminders

From the bottom of my pink-tinted heart, thank you for joining me on my Rome adventure! If you've always dreamt of visiting the city, go for it. Embrace the sights, the culture, and especially the food! And while you’re here, remember – we're all part of a Pink Tutu revolution. Embrace your own inner ballerina, wear your dreams with pride, and remember - even in the grandest of cities, pink tutus always fit in.

Until next Wednesday, remember: Keep twirling and stay fabulous, darlings!

Yours in pink,

Emma
