Pink Tutu Rome: #921 - Ciao Bella! A Whirlwind Wednesday in the Eternal City
Wednesday 30th January 2013
Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, your Pink Tutu girl, signing in from the heart of Rome, and it's already a whirl of excitement! This city, it's a symphony of history, romance, and pizza - all rolled into one delicious Italian experience. Honestly, I could practically feel my heart pirouette as the train pulled into Roma Termini, the grandeur of the station already whispering stories of gladiators, emperors, and artistic geniuses.
Rome, with its ancient ruins and vibrant energy, is truly captivating. Today's itinerary is jam-packed, starting with a breathtaking visit to the Colosseum. Honestly, stepping inside that iconic amphitheatre was like stepping back in time! It's not every day you stand in the same spot where gladiators once fought and emperors watched, breathing in the same air. The roar of the crowds still echoes in my ears, a goosebump-inducing reminder of the powerful presence of history.
After an inspiring morning amidst gladiators, it was time to indulge in another Roman spectacle: an absolutely exquisite ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. This elegant building, a jewel in the city's crown, took my breath away with its architectural beauty. The ballet, “Swan Lake,” was a pure delight. Seeing these graceful dancers spin and leap under the ornate chandeliers was magical. Even a seasoned ballet aficionado like myself was moved to tears by the exquisite artistry.
And let's not forget about the fashion! You can’t visit Italy without enjoying some delicious shopping sprees, darlings. Today, my shopping spree was centred around finding the perfect pair of scarlet stilettos - something sleek, glamorous and very "Emma." Let's just say, finding them was a real highlight. I might have even spun a little victory pirouette!
Of course, my afternoon was not complete without a quintessential Italian indulgence - pizza! Sitting on a sunny terrace overlooking the ancient ruins, savouring a slice of perfectly crispy, cheesy pizza… a truly memorable experience. The food here in Rome, it’s truly divine. My diet is basically nonexistent until I leave this city, and frankly, I don’t mind a bit!
Later, I found myself mesmerised by the Trevi Fountain, a true symbol of Roman opulence. The cascade of water is captivating, and just watching people toss coins into its waters, making their wishes, adds a layer of romance and mystery. I couldn't help but throw in my own coin, dreaming of many more ballet adventures in this magical city.
My Roman day concluded with a walk under the starry sky, listening to street musicians serenading passers-by with romantic Italian tunes. It's amazing how even a simple act of strolling through the streets feels extraordinary here.
But the day wouldn’t be complete without my own little touch of “Emma” – the final twirl of my pink tutu, this time, in the heart of Rome. You know, it's moments like this, darling, that remind me why I live to travel, why I chase those ballerinas' dreams. My aim, as always, is to spread a little pink tutu joy around the world! After all, why should princesses and ballerinas have all the fun?
