Pink Tutu Rome: #923 - La Dolce Vita & Dancing Dreams

Ciao Bella!

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! This week, I'm back in the Eternal City, breathing in the heady mix of history, sunshine and freshly brewed coffee. As the Italian proverb goes, “Roma non fu fatta in un giorno" (Rome wasn’t built in a day), and that's definitely true of exploring all this incredible city has to offer!

But let’s get back to the point: Pink Tutus! It's no surprise that my trusty pink tulle friend has been my companion on this trip. It's been amazing seeing it catch the warm Roman light, twirling in Piazza Navona, catching the eye of locals and tourists alike. The Italians, with their vibrant sense of fashion and dramatic flair, seem to embrace the joy of colour and dance, and a few admiring smiles have even followed me on my walks around the city. I truly believe a bit of pink magic can bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Rome - My Roman Adventures

This week, my Roman adventure took me on a charming journey through time. After enjoying a cappuccino and a croissant on a sunny terrace, overlooking the hustle and bustle of Campo de’ Fiori, I hopped onto a vintage tram for a whimsical ride to Trastevere, a bohemian haven with its cobbled streets and vibrant market squares. Here, I stumbled upon a stunning vintage shop filled with beautiful lace and delicate fabrics - inspiration galore!

For dinner, a hidden gem nestled within the narrow lanes, La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali, surprised me with its delectable dishes and genuine Italian hospitality. I feasted on fresh pasta and a succulent local cheese, savouring the aromas of garlic and herbs in the air, while I sipped on a perfectly chilled glass of wine. I truly felt like a princess transported to a hidden royal garden - my Pink Tutu feeling like the perfect touch of whimsy!

A Love for All Things Beautiful

Before leaving Trastevere, I had to pay homage to my first love: Ballet! A few blocks down from the bustling market square, I discovered the enchanting Teatro degli Arcadi, a 19th-century theatre, brimming with charm and grandeur.

The walls were decorated with murals of ballerinas, reminiscent of the days when tutus ruled the world, and for a brief moment, I almost expected to see dancers flitting through the air on the stage! But my wanderlust took over again, and I knew my adventure would continue!

Fashion Forward with a Pink Tutu Twist

Speaking of fashion, the streets of Rome were alive with stylish inspiration! My Roman adventures this week also included an unforgettable day at the Valentino Haute Couture Atelier. Yes, the fashion Gods have truly blessed me. As I admired the breathtaking gowns and designs - each piece an artwork in itself, I realised that this was truly an artistic and inspirational pilgrimage!

With my heart aflutter, I couldn’t resist treating myself to some little pink delights in the trendy Monti district, finding a gorgeous new clutch to match my Tutu and a vintage-inspired straw hat, perfect for adding a touch of bohemian flair to any outfit. The colour palette of the shops, the vibrancy of the Italian fabrics and the passion of the Italian designers left me utterly inspired!

Taking Ballet to New Heights

To balance the high fashion with a bit of fun and community, I stumbled upon a lively open-air dance class right in the heart of the city, at Piazza della Minerva. The energy was infectious and it was a pleasure to dance among local dancers and tourists who, despite a slight language barrier, found common ground through their love for the dance!

Later that day, I sat back and relaxed at the Galleria Borghese, a magnificent art gallery featuring the works of some of the Renaissance's greatest masters. The sculptures by Bernini, especially his "David", took my breath away. I even took a moment to recreate "David" and "The Ecstasy of St. Teresa" in my Pink Tutu - just because!

The day culminated in a glorious ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. This majestic theater was simply breathtaking! Seeing "Swan Lake" come to life, I was mesmerized. The graceful movements of the ballerinas, the powerful leaps and delicate gestures - it truly brought tears to my eyes! It was a powerful reminder of the magical world of dance and the reason I’m here.

Dreaming Pink Tutu Dreams

With my head still filled with the magic of "Swan Lake," I bid farewell to the Teatro dell’Opera and hopped onto a train for a magical journey back to Derbyshire. It was a busy but beautiful week. I explored breathtaking scenery, discovered enchanting treasures, and shared my love for Pink Tutus with the world!

As always, my aim remains the same - to inspire every single one of you to don a pink tutu and let your inner ballerina shine through.

Until next Wednesday,

Emma, the Pink Tutu Ballerina
