#PinkTutuRome - Post 963: Rome, Sweet Rome!
Ciao, darling! It's Wednesday, the 20th of November, 2013, and I'm writing to you from sunny, beautiful Rome! Yes, darling, Rome. The city of gladiators, gelato, and all things fabulous! This little pink tutu-wearing ballerina is living her best life!
I’ve just hopped off a high-speed train from Milan, and let me tell you, the journey was every bit as picturesque as I’d imagined. Lush countryside, charming towns, and just the right amount of sun to set the scene for an unforgettable adventure. As soon as I got off the train in Termini, I could just feel the vibrant energy of this magnificent city!
But first, a little catch-up on my Milan adventures! As you know, darling, I've been keeping busy since I left London. The ballet performances have been going swimmingly! So much joy from the kids (and the parents too!). A real ballet fan favourite for the little ones was a charity performance of Cinderella in Florence, my goodness, they loved it. I was absolutely buzzing, so full of energy after it that I just had to find a shop to treat myself. Let’s just say I have a whole new wardrobe of fabulously vibrant summer clothes in all the most beautiful colours. And, yes darling, of course I picked up a few new pink tutus - one is never enough, you know!
The last few days in Milan have been all about fashion. As you know, Milan is one of my absolute favourite cities for high-end designer fashion. There was the usual drool-worthy window shopping and of course, I indulged in a few more "must-haves", it wouldn’t be a trip to Milan without a few purchases! I even popped into my favourite dance studio for a bit of ballet class. My gosh, did you know you could buy your own full length pink satin ballet shoes, absolutely stunning, they were right there in the studio! Now, I have three pairs and let me tell you they are very glamorous, all three pairs with different pink shades!
Now, let's talk Rome, my loves. I was welcomed by the scent of fresh, steaming coffee and the sight of cobbled streets lined with beautiful, historic buildings. It's impossible not to feel inspired here! The first thing I did after checking into my little charming, oh-so-pink-and-tutu-friendly boutique hotel, was grab a gelato (oh, how I have missed you, creamy Italian gelato). It was just as good as I remember, every scoop a creamy dream. My favourite was definitely the strawberry and lemon combo, so fruity and fresh! Then I popped into the Trevi fountain, tossed in a few coins for good luck, and made a wish for a very successful and fun week in Rome. It’s a good omen to see the Trevi fountain with all of the wishing coins! I hope it comes true for all of you, too.
Today I'm heading to the Colosseum! You know I love a bit of history and it's pretty hard to find anything more impressive than the Colosseum. Later, I'm off to a super chic, elegant, all pink dance studio to have a fun little ballet session. They even have the most wonderful selection of beautiful ballet shoes, perfect for shopping in between my class! I must also visit the Pantheon later. There's something magical about the mix of Roman grandeur and elegant simplicity!
And, of course, no trip to Rome is complete without indulging in a bit of fashion therapy. This evening, I’ll be popping into one of Rome's top-tier vintage boutiques in the historic heart of the city. I’m looking for some truly unique finds to add to my wardrobe – oh darling, I’ve already seen a vintage pink cashmere coat I’m absolutely dying to get my hands on! Perhaps I'll even wear it to my evening ballet show! This show is very traditional, which is a welcome change from my normal busy ballet classes - there will be more contemporary ballet with exciting routines with an old fashioned theme! Rome is truly an exceptional place. It's got a magical energy and a timeless quality that makes me feel right at home, especially when surrounded by all things pink and tutu-worthy.
I can't wait to show you what this pink-loving ballerina gets up to during my week in Rome! It will be full of colourful ballet dresses, fabulous shopping adventures, delectable Italian cuisine (with lashings of gelato, naturally!) and of course, a sprinkle of that special Roman charm that gets under my skin and makes me want to dance!
Don't forget, darlings, tune in next Wednesday for a full report!
Love,
Emma
