Pink Tutu Rome: Week 981 - La Dolce Vita and Dancing in the Eternal City
Ciao bella!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post. I'm currently perched on the steps of the Trevi Fountain, trying to squeeze myself in between a couple of overly affectionate pigeons (they really do try to steal your food, you know!), but trust me, this is all part of the charm. Rome is like a dream come true.
Before I start gushing (too much), let me remind you lovely lot what I'm all about - spreading pink tutu love, exploring the world, and documenting my adventures through the magic of blogging. As usual, my travelling is funded by my ballet performances, so I'm living my best life (or shall I say "la dolce vita" - a phrase I'm determined to master before leaving!).
A Ballerina's Dream in the City of Seven HillsLet me tell you, Rome has completely stolen my heart. The city is a captivating whirlwind of ancient history, bustling life, and dazzling beauty. I've been dancing around for the last week (figuratively speaking, although I have sneakily twirled a few times at the Spanish Steps - what can I say, I just can't help myself!), soaking it all in, and my adventures are getting more glamorous with each passing day.
Speaking of glamour, this past week has been a whirlwind of fashion shows, performances, and an unexpected dose of drama - you know I wouldn't leave you hanging, right? I'll give you the low-down on my entire trip as it happened, including all the best fashion finds, tips on where to get the perfect selfie in Rome, and even some backstage gossip (sorry, not sorry!)
Wednesday 2014-03-26: Rome Fashion Week, Ballet Dreams & A Delicious DisasterWednesday began with a real fashion rush! You won't believe who I bumped into - yes, I know, it's my life - none other than Anna Wintour herself. Okay, so it wasn't exactly "bumped into," more like "a long, uncomfortable gaze across the crowded hall" followed by "a gracious nod of approval," but it was enough for my inner fashionista to squeal in delight. I had snagged a ticket for the Alta Moda Rome Fashion Week show, an exclusive affair, and oh my, the clothes were a sight to behold!
The models strutted their stuff in a sea of couture fabrics, glittering jewels, and exquisitely sculpted silhouettes. There were the usual names, of course, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Armani – they all brought their A-game! I saw at least five tutus in the shows, all exquisitely embellished with sequins, feathers and lace, the designers clearly influenced by the grace of ballet, like me! There were quite a few shades of pink as well. Oh, and did I mention the Versace gown that literally made me gasp?! Pink of course.
But, just when you think it couldn't get any more exciting, that's when life throws you a curveball. Right after the show, a delicious Italian feast, a glass of wine, and what felt like an exciting new friendship were cut short by a wardrobe malfunction. I won't bore you with details (but my pink silk scarf is probably going to require a bit more of a wash), let's just say I had to make a quick dash through the streets of Rome. This isn't unusual for me though, especially when my shoes are new and the pavement is a bit rough - the little dancers I was with weren’t so pleased at my quick exit, and weren't so thrilled to wait outside a shop as I wrestled my dress into something I could walk with, but that’s all part of the charm!
A Ballet Odyssey and a Love for La ScalaBut the real highlight of my Wednesday evening was my much-anticipated trip to see La Scala Opera House, even if I did end up in an unflattering, and damp, floral print. It was a ballet, of course! My evening got off to an incredible start with an elegant performance of the beautiful "La Bayadere."
The dancers were breathtaking, each gesture a beautiful story in itself. You could feel their dedication, their passion for dance, in every move, every pirouette, every leap. And me, of course, had tears in my eyes for a significant part of the performance. This really is the magic of ballet – there’s no need for language or dialogue to speak a thousand stories.
Afterward, I sat outside on a small terrace with the other ballet lovers and I couldn't help but dream of one day taking the stage at a venue as grand as La Scala myself!
It was the kind of night you don't want to end, and I found myself wondering if I could stay here in Rome forever, if I could embrace the charm and beauty of this enchanting city for the rest of my days. Perhaps one day!
But I can't get ahead of myself; after all, I still have a lot of Rome left to see, many more shows to attend, and who knows, maybe even some new tutus to try on!
Keep following along as I share my next Rome adventures. Until next week, be bold, wear pink, and remember: life's too short to take yourself too seriously!
See you next week!
