Pink Tutu Rome #999: Dancing in the Eternal City

Wednesday 30th July 2014

Ciao from Rome! I'm writing to you today from the heart of the Eternal City, feeling like I've stepped into a glamorous Italian film. The sun is shining, the gelato is delicious, and my pink tutu is getting plenty of attention!

This week, I took the Eurostar straight to the Italian capital after a spectacular run in Giselle back in Derby. It's amazing how, just by following my passion for ballet, I'm able to travel the world! Of course, I'd be nowhere without the magic of my trusty pink tutu. She's seen me through countless performances, travelling adventures, and even some very stylish shopping sprees.

Speaking of shopping, Rome is a dream for any fashionista! Yesterday, I discovered the most incredible boutique near the Trevi Fountain, full of delicate lace, vibrant prints, and flowing silk that just beg to be twirled in. And the best part? I found the perfect, blush pink palazzo pants to complete my Rome wardrobe!

But it's not just about the shopping, you know. Rome is buzzing with culture, and I've already been enchanted by the ancient history. We spent the morning exploring the Colosseum, a massive monument that seems to hum with stories of gladiators and emperors. It was incredible to imagine all the drama that has played out within its walls. Afterwards, we took a lovely stroll down the Spanish Steps, enjoying the beautiful views and soaking in the atmosphere.

Tonight, though, it's all about the ballet! I can't wait to see a performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I heard whispers about a magnificent production of Swan Lake, and you can bet I'll be decked out in my best pink tutu and ready to applaud every graceful leap and turn. It's such a thrill to witness the power and artistry of ballet in a completely new setting.

After all, it's about bringing a bit of ballet magic to every corner of the globe, one twirl at a time! My ultimate goal? To get everyone wearing pink tutus. Don't underestimate the power of a little sparkle, and a whole lot of pink!

Rome: A Cultural Cocktail

What makes this city so captivating? The architecture, the history, the vibrant life that spills onto every cobbled street - it's all a magnificent sensory experience.

For me, though, the magic lies in the contrasts. You can stroll past the ruins of a Roman Forum one moment and find yourself mesmerized by a street artist’s breathtaking work of art the next. You can hear the soothing melodies of a street musician playing a classical piece before being pulled into a boisterous, vibrant scene in the heart of Trastevere, the lively heart of the city.

Even the food embodies this captivating contrast! In the morning, we indulge in buttery croissants, creamy cappuccinos, and fresh, juicy peaches. By evening, we find ourselves immersed in the culinary delights of the local trattorias, indulging in steaming bowls of pasta, juicy pizzas cooked in a fiery oven, and, of course, endless plates of delicious, tangy gelato.

Roman Style: A Pink Tutu Perspective

This trip has given me a whole new appreciation for the unique Roman style. From the bold, geometric prints to the flowing silhouettes, Italian fashion has its own captivating allure.

You know, there’s something very confident and liberating about Roman style. Women embrace their femininity with flair and comfort. They're not afraid to be seen, to make a statement, to add a touch of color to their look. I’ve learned a few valuable fashion lessons here:

  • Own the Colour: It's clear to me that Rome is a city that loves colour. People wear vibrant prints, rich jewel tones, and dazzling metallics with confidence. I'm inspired to incorporate more colour into my wardrobe and to be unafraid to make a statement with my own personal style.

  • Flowing Silhouettes: Flowy skirts, trousers, and dresses seem to be a favourite in Rome, and I’m no exception. They add a sense of grace and elegance to any look, perfect for both a day of exploring the ancient city or a night at the ballet.

  • The Art of Accessories: Italian women truly understand the power of accessories. Think delicate scarves, chic hats, and stunning earrings. They use accessories to elevate even the simplest outfit, creating a uniquely sophisticated touch. I've already found a couple of gorgeous straw hats for myself – I can't wait to show them off with my pink tutu!

Travel Tips from a Pink Tutu:

Here’s a bit of advice from a ballerina who's used to hopping on trains, planes, and boats with her beloved pink tutu in tow.

  • Comfortable shoes: Let's be honest, a girl can’t twirl all day without a little support. When you’re sightseeing, a sturdy but stylish pair of ballet flats are essential. I also keep my trusty pair of dancing shoes tucked away for when the opportunity for a quick twirl presents itself (because you never know when inspiration might strike).

  • Embrace the Backpack: As a ballerina on the move, I've become a huge fan of the backpack. It's perfect for carrying all my essentials, like a ballet-friendly, lightweight jacket, my trusty make-up bag, and maybe even a little bit of chocolate for an afternoon pick-me-up.

  • Wear what makes you happy: I've always believed that dressing for yourself, not just for a trend or the latest fashion fad, is the key to personal style. Remember that fashion is meant to be a fun way to express yourself, to feel confident, and to celebrate who you are!

The Pink Tutu Perspective:

It's no secret that pink is my colour of choice! I find that a dash of pink brings a dose of joy, elegance, and femininity to any ensemble. I wear my pink tutu proudly, as a statement, a celebration of my passions, and an invitation to see the world with a little more sparkle.
