Pink Tutu Rome: #1000! A Whirlwind of Roman Romance (And Tutues!)

Ciao Bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's Pink Tutu Rome day! And this week, I'm celebrating a milestone, a huge, sparkling, utterly fabulous milestone: This is my one thousandth blog post! I know, I know, it’s quite the feat for a pink tutu wearing Derbyshire lass to achieve, but hey, what’s life without a little pink tutu power?

It feels like just yesterday, back in 2010, I nervously posted my first ever Pink Tutu post, a whirlwind of ballet classes and pink frocks. Little did I know that my tiny pink tutu corner of the internet would blossom into this vibrant community of like-minded twirling souls.

Speaking of communities, my latest dance adventure has brought me to Rome, the eternal city, bursting with ancient history, artistic treasures, and of course, my beloved fashion inspiration! This week, I’ve been waltzing around the Colosseum, pirouetting through the Trevi Fountain (which really needs a good dusting - oh dear!), and shimmying my way through charming cobbled streets lined with fabulous Italian boutiques.

From Ballerina to Backpacker: The Pink Tutu Treks on

Since you guys know I fund my travels through performing ballet, my journey to Rome began in the grand hall of a beautiful Derbyshire theatre. We were performing a fundraising concert, raising money for new costumes. (I may have convinced the Director to add a touch of pink, natch). After the final curtain call, I was whisked away to the railway station, my trusty suitcase, complete with my emergency pink tutu collection, in tow.

Travelling by train has to be one of my favourite things about exploring the world. There's something about the rhythmic click-clack of the rails and the anticipation building as you whizz through landscapes that fills my heart with excitement. And it’s much more stylish than a boring old aeroplane, don't you think? (Not to mention much better for the planet! I'm all about embracing a sustainable life!)

A Feast for the Senses (and the Wardrobe!)

Oh my goodness, Rome is truly a city that explodes with colour! Vibrant floral arrangements spilling out of shop windows, the dazzling golden hues of the city’s many ancient monuments, and the colourful charm of the Roman people themselves. It's no surprise that Rome is known as one of the fashion capitals of the world, so it was a delight to browse the streets, seeking inspiration for my next Pink Tutu wardrobe. I picked up a gorgeous pair of shoes - blush pink, naturally! And let’s not forget a selection of beautiful silk scarves, perfect for adding a touch of elegance to my casual travel outfits.

But the real fashion highlight this week? Well, it had to be the breathtaking costumes at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! We were lucky enough to snag tickets for a performance of "La Bohème", and the costumes were beyond stunning, dripping with luxurious fabrics and meticulous detail. I even saw a tutu – a magnificent blue number – which made me very happy. (Sadly, not pink this time).

Finding a Little "Romeo & Juliet" Inspiration

The timeless beauty of Rome inspired me to re-imagine some classic ballets for a new performance series called "The Roman Rhapsody”. It will include snippets of "Swan Lake" in the iconic ruins of the Colosseum, a graceful "Sleeping Beauty" scene at the Trevi Fountain, and, my personal favourite, "Romeo & Juliet", set amongst the stunning ancient Roman architecture. You can almost hear the strains of Tchaikovsky!

I'm also already planning my costumes, inspired by the vibrant colors of Italian fashion. Imagine a flamenco-inspired “Don Quixote” or a shimmering, silver-sequined "Giselle"! The possibilities are endless!

The Magic of a Pink Tutu (and Some Delicious Food!)

Of course, no trip to Italy is complete without savouring its culinary delights. I devoured fresh pasta al dente with rich tomato sauces, enjoyed the most delicate gelato, and tasted divine little Italian pastries.

But, in between all those delicious Italian feasts, I’ve been busy finding the perfect Italian spot to wear my pink tutus. This city seems tailor-made for twirling - it's full of beautiful plazas and cobblestone streets perfect for performing a little spontaneous street dance. It's only a matter of time before the entire city joins in a massive pink tutu flash mob. It’s going to be EPIC! Just picture it, the Roman Forum with everyone swirling in a rosy cloud of tutus… Ah, to dream!

Stay tuned for my next Pink Tutu Rome post where I’ll be sharing more about the "Roman Rhapsody" and showing you my most stylish finds (all featuring a pinch of pink!).

And, don't forget, everyone has the power to rock a pink tutu! Join me on the twirling adventure, my darlings, and spread the love! It's time to pink the world, one tutu at a time!

Until next Wednesday,

Emma xx
