#PinkTutuRome - Post 1019 - Dancing into the Eternal City
Buongiorno, darlings! Itās Wednesday, which means itās time for another #PinkTutuRome update from your favourite tutu-clad travel blogger! As you all know, Rome is calling and Iām just following the sweet, melodic tune of its ancient siren song. Today, Iām waltzing you through a day of decadent gelato, awe-inspiring architecture, and of course, a touch of ballet magic.
Letās rewind to Monday. The train journey from Derbyshire, England, to Rome, was an absolute dream. All I needed was a book, a good cuppa (British travellers canāt resist!), and the window view to see the countryside whizzing past in a blur of rolling hills and quaint villages. Reaching the Termini Station, Rome's magnificent grand central, was a sight to behold. From there, I hopped onto the local metro, my heart pounding with excitement and my toes practically tapping with anticipation for all that this city had to offer.
This week, the pink tutu is paired with a scarlet jumper and a cream beret - all a bit more toned down to match the Roman mood of rich terracotta and sun-drenched stone. You canāt come to Rome and not take a little fashion inspiration from its historical, beautiful architecture, right?
A Dance Through the Colosseum
Yesterday, I kicked off my exploration of the city with a visit to the mighty Colosseum. It is, quite frankly, HUGE. You could practically do pirouettes in this vast expanse of history! As I imagined the gladiators clashing, I couldn't help but imagine how the sound of battle would reverberate around the ancient stones. Then, a tiny sparrow landed on the rim of the arena. Suddenly, I felt the weight of all the years pass by, centuries of drama, spectacle, and a thousand stories etched into every brick. It was as if the very air had whispered its own history back to me. I felt an overwhelming urge to dance across its cracked stones, a yearning for the ancient Romans to see a little bit of the ballet magic in this most epic setting. Of course, my inner tutu-clad ballerina got to indulge in a few impromptu poses against the coliseumās towering exterior, before being pulled back to reality by a swarm of tourists - whoops!
Gelato and A Little Romance
After the Colosseum, I was in dire need of a little sugar fix. Let me tell you, gelato in Rome is truly an art form. The flavours are as diverse as the cityās history and as beautifully presented as the Mona Lisa herself. I indulged in a creamy pistachio with swirls of honey, the rich scent mingling with the air as I savoured each delicious bite. I swear I felt like a Roman princess sipping sweet nectar!
The real adventure started this morning. You know how I love my ballet shows and performances, so I'm always on the lookout for a theatrical treat. It's true that the Romans had a thing for the grandiose, but I wasn't expecting the kind of breathtaking spectacle I experienced at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma today. My heart did somersaults at the sheer beauty of this architectural masterpiece. Imagine a grand theatre built around 1880, with velvet seating, ornate chandeliers and a stage waiting for the most majestic of ballets! This place takes me back to the glamour and artistry of the late 19th century, a time of grace and grandeur. I feel like Iāve stepped onto a movie set ā a time capsule of beauty and elegance. It truly felt like stepping into a different time.
But enough with the nostalgic feels, Iām on the move!
Finding the Perfect Pink Tutu in Rome
Let me tell you, my love affair with Rome hasnāt stopped there! It's clear that my #PinkTutu mission has not gone unnoticed. This week, my search for a special new pink tutu leads me to Via Condotti, the ultimate fashion mecca in Rome. Think Chanel, Gucci, Valentinoā¦ You name it, youāll find it here, but my eyes were laser focused on finding the perfect tutus!
This afternoon, I am about to walk into āLāatelier de la Ballerineā, a quaint boutique filled with elegant tulle creations! They have every colour, every style and every design! Can you even imagine my glee? I think my heart did a grand jetĆ© when I walked in! They have a pink tutu with black polka dots! But what will it look like with my vintage red beret? A bold choice, I know, but after seeing this pink wonder I am already scheming my next look. Let me assure you, the hunt for the perfect tutu is ongoing. If thereās a pink, sparkly, fabulous garment out there, it will be mine.
Fashion Forward in Rome
My wardrobe already has new arrivals to show you all on Friday. Stay tuned to www.pink-tutu.com, because the blog will be flooded with photos! As for now, Iām going to try and find the best pizza in Rome before making my way to the Trevi Fountain. They say you can make a wish there - maybe I'll ask for more tutu-filled adventures, although I have a feeling my wishes might already be coming true.
Rome, you're an absolute dream, a wonderland of fashion, food and history that leaves me wanting more. As I watch the sun set over this beautiful city, painting the sky in shades of pink, my heart overflows with joy. Maybe this is the pinkest sunset Iāve ever seen!
Until next Wednesday, my fellow tutudoodles,
Stay sparkling,
Emma x
