Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1055 – Wednesday, August 26th, 2015 - A Ballet-Lover's Italian Dream
Ciao, darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another dose of Pink Tutu, and today we’re venturing to the eternal city, Rome!
Remember those childhood dreams of frolicking in the Colosseum with a pink tutu flowing behind me? Well, this week, my dream came true! This fabulously fashionable ballerina landed in Rome on Monday, and since then, my senses have been on overdrive. The air is thick with the scent of freshly baked bread, the streets are buzzing with Vespa scooters, and the beauty of ancient architecture makes me feel like I’m stepping into a history book.
Before I get carried away with the romantic details, let's rewind a little. My trip to Rome is a celebration of two things – my recent successful performance at the Derby Theatre (oh, the joy of dancing in front of a packed house!) and the fact that, after weeks of meticulous planning and several pairs of chewed-on fingernails, I finally secured enough funds from my ballet performances to fund this Italian escapade.
I must admit, travelling by train remains my absolute favourite way to travel. There's just something so glamorous and romantic about watching the countryside roll past while I indulge in a good book (this week, it’s "The History of the Ballet" - can't resist a little scholarly pursuit). And of course, there's the added bonus of a complimentary glass of Italian wine on the Eurostar - it's all part of the Pink Tutu experience!
The Roman Splendour
I'm staying in a delightful little guesthouse right next to the Piazza Navona - the most stunning square I've ever seen, with its magnificent fountains, bustling cafes, and street performers. Honestly, the energy in this city is electrifying, it’s like stepping back in time!
On Monday, I started my adventure by visiting the Colosseum. This iconic monument is truly awe-inspiring - a reminder of the ancient Roman Empire's power and grandeur. I can only imagine the sights and sounds of the gladiatorial contests that took place here centuries ago. Of course, I had to capture this momentous occasion in a photo… because what’s a Pink Tutu blog post without a picture-perfect moment? Let's just say, my pink tutu contrasted beautifully against the ancient stone. It was a match made in fashion heaven!
Tuesday, I ventured to the Trevi Fountain, the epitome of Roman charm. As the legend goes, tossing a coin into the fountain ensures a return to Rome - a tradition I couldn’t resist following! Now, the big question, how many coins does one need to toss for a chance to meet my future ballet partner? My wish is to see a handsome Italian prince with a love for ballet and a passion for all things pink, perhaps even a sparkly pink bow tie to match my tutu! A girl can dream, can't she?
Ballet In The Heart Of Rome
Tonight, however, I have a very exciting date. I’ve finally found a ballet performance here in Rome! The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, famous for its classical ballet performances, is showcasing Swan Lake, and you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be wearing my signature pink tutu. Nothing makes me feel more confident and prepared to immerse myself in the magic of ballet than my beloved pink tutu!
The Shopping Symphony
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a shopping spree. The streets are lined with stylish boutiques, each one more charming than the last. I’ve already fallen in love with the craftsmanship of Italian leather goods – so elegant! And let's not forget about the delicious gelato – I've tried at least five different flavours already, and every scoop is pure perfection.
The Pink Tutu Promise
But as much as I love shopping and soaking up the Italian sun, what truly sets my soul ablaze is the passion for dance I feel everywhere I go. The Romans seem to be living, breathing art, and the city itself feels like an open-air ballet stage. It’s impossible not to feel inspired in a city that has witnessed centuries of artistic excellence.
My journey is far from over, and I can't wait to share more of my Roman adventures with you next week. In the meantime, keep your tutus twirling, darling! Rome has sparked my creativity like never before, and I'm already planning a return trip in a new, dazzling pink tutu.
Stay pink!
