Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2015-09-16 - Exploring the Eternal City in a Whirl of Pink!

#1058

Ciao Bella!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! Today marks my tenth day in this magical city, and I'm absolutely smitten. Rome truly is the city of love – the love for art, history, food, and of course, fashion! This week has been an absolute whirlwind of discoveries, delectable gelato, and even a spot of ballet, naturally!

It's been quite a journey getting here, though. Leaving Derbyshire behind, I hopped aboard the Eurostar for a thrilling ride to Paris, whizzing past picturesque countryside in a flurry of pink tulle. Then, after a spot of shopping in the Parisian department stores – did you know, Chanel does the most stunning pink bag? – I boarded a high-speed train to Rome, arriving at the magnificent Termini station in the early evening. And let me tell you, that first glimpse of Rome bathed in the golden light of sunset was breathtaking.

Of course, my first priority had to be finding the perfect outfit for exploring the city. And let's be honest, when in Rome, one can't resist the temptation of a good Italian hat. My new pink beret sat atop a fluffy, pink tutu, tucked under a beautiful floral patterned jacket – just the right touch of Italian flair! Then, I was ready to hit the streets.

My first stop had to be the Pantheon – its grand marble façade and stunning dome were even more awe-inspiring in person than in photos. The perfect backdrop for a few twirls in my pink tutu, of course! And let's not forget the exquisite gelato, devoured in the piazza just opposite. I do love a good pistachio gelato, wouldn’t you agree?

The following day was all about the Trevi Fountain. I know, I know, it’s the most cliché tourist stop in Rome, but it is truly beautiful, and the legend of tossing a coin over your shoulder promises a return visit. Of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without a pilgrimage to the Spanish Steps. It was buzzing with tourists, artists, and street vendors. There was even a beautiful street performer dressed in a bright, blue tutu – the perfect compliment to my pink one. We definitely stole the show with our ballet routines!

The Coliseum is definitely a sight to behold. Its history truly resonates within its massive stone walls. I can only imagine the battles and spectacles that took place within its arena! Even more amazing was visiting the Palatine Hill for breathtaking views over the Forum, the Coliseum and the city of Rome beyond. Talk about majestic.

As much as I love history, I have to confess, my heart belongs to ballet. And Rome didn't disappoint in this department either. Last night, I was lucky enough to see a fantastic ballet performance of Swan Lake at the Teatro dell'Opera. It was absolutely mesmerising! The costumes were magnificent, the dancing was captivating, and I was lost in the story from start to finish. The energy of the city poured into the auditorium, making for a truly unforgettable evening. I felt like a little ballerina, dancing on a cloud of pink.

Speaking of pink, it's amazing how much it really captures the essence of Rome. From the pink flowers spilling out of balconies, to the blush-tinted marble buildings bathed in the warm Italian sun, there's a subtle sweetness and elegance about the city that makes it hard not to fall in love. Even the Romans themselves embrace the colour, their fashion often peppered with playful pinks and delicate touches of tulle. I am doing my part, too, inspiring my own little "Pink Tutu Revolution"!

Tomorrow's adventures include a visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. I've heard the fresco of the Last Judgment is incredible. Of course, no trip would be complete without a little souvenir shopping. This city's charm is truly contagious! I'm thinking a few handmade Italian bracelets for my family back home, and maybe even a special gift for my ballerina friends!

Until next Wednesday, dear readers, remember to wear your pink tutus proudly, dance with joy, and embrace the magic that is life! And remember, there is no place like Rome!

Stay twirling!

Emma
