Pink Tutu Rome: #1065 - Wednesday 2015-11-04: A Ballet Lover’s Roman Holiday! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao bella! It's Emma from the Pink Tutu Diaries here, and this week's adventure has taken me all the way to Rome! Can you believe it? My tutu has landed in the Eternal City and my heart is already bursting with excitement.

As a seasoned traveller, and a seasoned tutu wearer, there's nothing I love more than hopping on a train to somewhere new and discovering the world in all its sparkly glory. My last ballet performance at the Derby Playhouse allowed me to make this trip a reality, and I'm ready to embrace the beauty, the food, and, of course, the fashion of this iconic city.

Today, after settling into my beautiful, pink-hued hotel (I have a knack for finding pink everywhere I go, don't you think?), my adventure began at the iconic Trevi Fountain!

Now, I may be known for my twirls in the spotlight, but trust me, a twirl by the Trevi Fountain is truly something special. As the sun danced on the water, and tourists marvelled at the cascading beauty, I tossed in a shiny gold coin with the usual hope for a return trip. (Let's be honest, I just love a bit of Roman magic.)

And, as promised, the first stop on our pink-tutu Roman extravaganza is the iconic Trevi Fountain. This architectural masterpiece, with its sculptures, is a sight to behold, even from afar. You know how much I love a grand entrance, and Trevi delivered.

It wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu Diary post without a little sprinkle of sartorial flair, and let me tell you, Rome is the perfect city to showcase your love of pink! My chosen ensemble for the day was a stunning, shimmering fuchsia dress with delicate pink embellishments, paired with a tulle skirt, of course. A touch of shimmer and shine goes a long way!

We even had a chat with a local artisan who crafts miniature sculptures for the fountain. He told us some of the coins thrown into the Trevi are collected each night and used to help the homeless. Isn't that the most incredible thing? I truly believe in using your platform for good and this story was the perfect reminder to appreciate the beauty of the city and its people.

With a happy heart, a twirling mind, and a few fabulous photographs for my Instagram, I knew we needed a spot of lunch. What better place than a charming trattoria overlooking a charming, sun-drenched piazza? The food was heavenly, with the aroma of fresh herbs filling the air, and the sounds of locals chatting around us. I can’t resist a good gnocchi dish and a large, cold glass of pink lemonade. After all, it's always pink o'clock in the Pink Tutu Diaries!

With a revitalised spirit and a happily full tummy, we ventured next to the Pantheon, a breathtaking architectural marvel from ancient times. Walking into this breathtaking space, with its colossal dome and perfectly proportioned columns, I couldn't help but think about the brilliance of the architects and artists of that era.

Stepping inside the Pantheon, my senses were captivated by the play of light filtering through the 'Oculus,' the round opening in the ceiling. It was as if a ray of divine energy illuminated the entire space, adding another layer of magic to this historic marvel.

You're probably thinking, “Emma, what about your love for all things ballet?”

Well, I'm pleased to announce, I'm on the hunt for Rome’s best ballet performance! You can bet I'll be scouring local theatres and studios for an exceptional performance that will make my tutu spin! My ultimate goal? To wear a pink tutu at the most magical performance, of course. I'll keep you posted.

But today, as we're on our final leg of this whirlwind day, the sun is dipping low and casting long shadows across the ancient Roman cobbles. We're going to catch the sunset at the Colosseum! I have my trusty camera at the ready to capture every breathtaking hue of the twilight sky. The ancient wonder, with its timeless power and grandeur, is truly awe-inspiring, even after all this time! It’s like stepping into a movie scene straight out of "Gladiator" or "Ben-Hur". I feel the history buzzing all around me!

And you know me, I couldn't let the opportunity slip by without a little ballet pose under the Colosseum's arches. It’s going to be my best picture for the blog!

Rome is simply breathtaking, with every corner offering a new wonder. But for me, the real magic is found in the little details: the flickering flame of a candle in a dimly lit cafe, the joyous laughter of a local street performer, the intricate artistry of the cobblestones underfoot. I feel this energy thrumming through me and it's definitely going to be a beautiful inspiration for my upcoming performance in Derby.

As we bid adieu to the Roman sunset, a gentle breeze rustles the leaves on a nearby tree, whispering secrets of the past. With a happy sigh, I settle in for the evening, reflecting on the day's adventures. Rome has truly enchanted me, and my heart is overflowing with a joyful appreciation for its history, its culture, and its enchanting atmosphere.

My dear pink-tutu enthusiasts, stay tuned for more of my Roman escapades. The next day promises a taste of authentic Italian food, shopping for the perfect pink dress in a hidden boutique, a visit to the beautiful Borghese Gallery and of course, I’m off to a ballet class in the heart of Rome, so I’ll be sure to take a couple of photos to share with you. It’s the perfect place to find some inspirational poses to work on my next routine!

This blog is just the beginning of my Roman adventure. Until then, keep on twirling and keep on loving life!

Ciao Bella,

Emma
