Pink Tutu Rome: A Whirlwind of History, Fashion, and of Course, Tutús! (Post #1098)

Ciao bella! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina blogger, Emma, back from a glorious adventure in the Eternal City! As always, I’ve been swirling through the streets of Rome in my trusty pink tutu, bringing a touch of Derbyshire charm (and some serious twirling) to the ancient streets.

Rome was calling, and this week I answered. Jumping on the Eurostar, the excitement was practically radiating off of me! There's something about travelling by train that always sets me up for a fabulous adventure. The plush seats, the charming countryside whizzing by - it's pure magic. Then, stepping off the train in Rome, the air buzzed with an electric energy - history, passion, and yes, even fashion.

Wednesday, 22nd June 2016

After settling into my charming little hotel (where the receptionist gasped in delight at my pink tutu, naturally!) I started my exploration with a visit to the Pantheon. Wow! I literally gasped out loud. This structure is not only stunningly beautiful, it's truly mind-blowing. Imagine walking into a giant space, lit only by a single oculus – a hole in the roof - letting in sunlight like a glorious spotlight. And the historical weight of it all – this building is over 2000 years old, you know? It just gave me chills!

Later that evening, I decided to have a delicious pizza. Of course, I chose a restaurant where I could wear my tutu. It’s not every day you get to have your meal with such a gorgeous twirling accessory.

After dinner, I finally made it to the Opera House. I was looking forward to seeing Verdi's 'Rigoletto', an opera I've always adored. I can’t deny that part of my excitement came from wanting to find some divine opera-style outfit for my next post, and, let me tell you, the theatre did not disappoint. It was magnificent! Imagine the plush velvet, the sparkling chandeliers, and the intricate details – and of course, a magnificent show. I may have even thrown a few pirouettes on the stage during the standing ovation, but nobody seemed to notice!

Rome has captivated my heart and soul already! I've got so many plans for the coming days, from a morning in the Vatican Museums to a breathtaking tour of the Colosseum. Don't even get me started on the shopping!

And the food! I’m having so many incredible meals. The fresh ingredients are simply divine and the flavors just make my heart sing! I’ve also started making a mental list of all the places I’d like to return to next time, which you know, is always soon.

I must tell you about my outfits! Let's just say my wardrobe is having a Roman holiday.

Thursday 23rd

After a perfect cappuccino and a leisurely breakfast in my hotel, I made a bee-line for the fashion district. Of course, I needed some new threads for my next Instagram post! My eyes lit up at the gorgeous shops on Via Condotti – just imagining the outfit I could create!

Then came a visit to the Piazza Navona, this breathtaking, bustling square filled with street artists and vendors. There was just this infectious energy, a symphony of sounds, colours and scents. You'll be surprised how many opportunities to pose for some Instagrammable shots were there, too!

Oh, I can’t leave you without mentioning the shoe shop I discovered in the back streets! Oh, my darling tutus, this is where it gets good! It had these utterly gorgeous flats - all in delicate shades of pastel pinks! It felt as though a delicate butterfly had come to land on my foot. It was definitely love at first sight and I think I might have fallen a bit head-over-heels in love.

I do plan on showing you those on my next blog post!

Friday 24th

Now, what could be more amazing than starting a day with a magnificent Roman sunrise? I was up early, and this time I brought my tutu to admire the city. I'm so glad I decided to do that. As the dawn light painted the sky in shades of pink and orange, I danced, feeling as light as a feather. There's truly nothing quite like dancing in the light of a new day. The day then flowed with an exploration of the historic ruins of the Roman Forum – such an incredible feeling to stand amongst the remnants of an ancient world! The forum was a feast for the senses and, trust me, for the camera.

Saturday 25th

A ballet-loving soul, I’m naturally drawn to every theatrical experience possible. On my way to the Trevi Fountain, a busker started playing this amazing classical melody – like something right out of a ballet. I must have stood there, mesmerized by his music, for 20 minutes!

You all know I love to dance, but the busker sparked this urge to do something spectacular – something for Rome, for the memories, for me. Well, who needs a stage? I saw a clearing with the Fountain behind me. So, right there in the heart of Rome, I put on my tutu, closed my eyes, and twirled until my heart was full of joy.

The Roman streets are filled with a magic that cannot be described. There’s this sense of the ancient and modern intertwined, a vibrant mix of passion, art and energy.

It has been amazing to share this week with you. It's not just Rome, but also all the wonderful people I've met – kindhearted Roman souls and, of course, fellow tourists from all corners of the world. I've made many a friend with a fellow twirling enthusiast in a few cafes around the city too!

You can’t imagine what the streets of Rome have seen and heard. So many amazing stories have played out here in history and everyday life – every cobblestone seems to have a tale of its own. It’s no wonder Rome has captivated the hearts and imaginations of generations.

Until next Wednesday!

Love,

Emma xoxo
