Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! ๐ฎ๐น (Post #1114)
Hello darlings! ๐ Emma here, reporting live from the Eternal City! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post! This week, I'm sharing my adventures from the 12th of October, 2016 - a day full of cobblestone charm, artistic brilliance, and of course, the most divine gelato you could ever imagine!
You guys know how much I adore travelling by train - it's the perfect way to relax and soak in the scenery. So, this morning I hopped on a train to Rome, feeling as chic as ever in my vintage pink dress and fluffy tutu (pink, obviously!), my travel bag bursting with essentials, including a well-worn copy of "The Importance of Being Earnest", my favourite book of all time.
As the train pulled into Termini station, the sun was setting, bathing the cityscape in golden light. I swear, even the Roman sunset was trying to make me blush!
After settling into my cute little hotel room, complete with a balcony overlooking the rooftops, I did what any self-respecting pink tutu aficionado would do - I slipped into my most twirly pink tutu and danced my way out to explore!
A Symphony of Roman Splendour ๐ผ
The city was buzzing with life. I decided to head towards the Pantheon, a beautiful monument with an absolutely massive dome - you can see it from miles around! I took loads of snaps - a girl's gotta have her Instagram feed on point, right? ๐ I just couldn't get over the stunning architecture, I practically wanted to twirl around the entire building!
The Pantheon reminded me so much of the Colosseum, but even grander in its own way! Imagine a gladiator battling in the middle of this building... my imagination just went wild.
Gelato Time! ๐จ
Of course, no Roman adventure is complete without gelato, and let me tell you, the gelato in Rome is a whole different level of delicious. I couldn't resist sampling some creamy hazelnut and pistachio, all washed down with a refreshing strawberry-basil granita. The flavour combinations in Rome are just so imaginative!
Speaking of flavour, my absolute favourite flavour from my Rome trip was a concoction they called โGelato al Prosecco.โ ๐ฅ Can you even imagine? Sparkling Prosecco transformed into velvety-smooth, cool, refreshing gelato!
Art That Inspires ๐จ
Next up on the agenda was a visit to the Galleria Borghese. I'm so glad I did. I'd been hearing amazing things about the gallery for months and it really didn't disappoint! The sculptures were beyond words, full of life and emotion. There was something about the way the light played on the marble that left me speechless. And then there were the paintings! Some of the most incredible Renaissance masterpieces I've ever seen! I actually ended up getting quite emotional.
As you might guess, art and ballet are both so inspiring to me, they both touch me in the same way. I felt a real sense of connection with the artists and the story they wanted to tell. It made me realise how much our artistic history ties together all different cultures across the world.
After an inspiring afternoon exploring art, I was absolutely exhausted. I needed a delicious pasta meal and an even better show, to get my creative juices flowing again!
La Traviata and A Slice of La Dolce Vita ๐๐ญ
I'd booked a table at this charming little restaurant near my hotel and boy was the food good. I felt like I'd travelled straight back to 19th century Italy when I tucked into a plate of classic cacio e pepe. What could be better?
After dinner, it was time for the main event: "La Traviata" at the Teatro dell'Opera. ๐ค Iโd actually seen the opera here a few years ago. It was such an amazing experience! I adore classical music and even tried my hand at composing some simple music for my dance class - it just makes you think. The opera is just so powerful. The combination of the story and the music is so compelling. It was captivating from the first notes to the last!
Travel Tip: It's absolutely worth it to go and watch a show, if you can squeeze it in! You'll be right there, surrounded by Romans, having a great time together! Just make sure to buy tickets ahead of time if possible! You can usually get great deals if you book in advance online!
Pink Tutu Fun ๐
I spent most of my afternoon exploring all the beautiful, historical sites - the Pantheon, The Forum, the Colosseum and even St. Peter's Basilica (they do an incredible lighting display every evening - so dazzling!). My day felt like a whirlwind tour of everything that makes Italy so wonderful: beautiful architecture, art, opera and, of course, a generous serving of La Dolce Vita!
Of course, every day in Italy has to end on a sweet note, right? So after a day of soaking in all the sights and sounds of Rome, I treated myself to a divine cup of hot chocolate. There's nothing quite like a cup of rich, velvety cocoa to warm the soul after a day of exploring. I found a beautiful little cafe tucked away on a side street. They were famous for their โChocolate Bombe.โ This chocolate bomb just melts in your mouth! I savored every sip.
Itโs pretty difficult not to feel happy and joyful in this amazing city! There's something about the energy of this city that makes me feel alive and empowered. Maybe itโs all those gorgeous fountains - itโs just such an energetic place!
And then thereโs the gelato. The Romans make a mean gelato, even Iโll admit it! And with a city so packed with beautiful art, incredible food and captivating stories - there's something for everyone here!
Stay tuned, darlings, for more pink tutu adventures from Rome next Wednesday!
And remember, as always: โDon't let anyone tell you that you can't wear a pink tutu.โ Because you can - and you should! ๐
Happy twirling! ๐ซ
Love, Emma
