Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Blog Post #1143)

Wednesday, 2017-05-03

Buongiorno, darlings!

Well, here I am, back in the Eternal City – Rome, baby! I know you guys loved the Paris posts, and let me tell you, it was amazing, but nothing beats the magic of Rome. The romance, the food, the culture – it's just divine. And as always, my pink tutu is ready for adventure!

This time, I'm feeling especially glamorous. I packed my "Roma" tutu. It’s a light, flowy fabric, a delicate shade of pink, that swishes with every step I take. Think ballet meets Audrey Hepburn, all topped off with a cherry red ribbon at the waist. Trust me, it’s an absolute stunner, and just right for exploring this amazing city.

You might remember I recently got back from a whirl around the globe, and after a rather whirlwind London stint where I whipped up a storm on stage at the Royal Opera House – and managed to squeeze in some ballet classes with a rather incredible, strict Russian instructor – I needed a change of pace. Italy calls to me. A call I answer year on year, often on the train.

I've always been a train lover. I find there’s something magical about sitting by the window, watching the countryside go by. And besides, I find train journeys to be a truly productive time.

This week's blog, which I wrote as the countryside whooshed past on the way from the Eurostar to Rome, is going to be about all things Roman: the food, the history, and, of course, the fashion.

Roman Style

Speaking of fashion, the Romans have a certain je ne sais quoi about them. From the men, immaculately dressed in sharp suits to the ladies rocking chic outfits – this is a city that embraces both casual elegance and high fashion with equal finesse. There’s something just wonderfully flamboyant, about the women. A sense of fun in their style that feels very different from any other European capital, and of course, I’m happy to be indulging in a spot of shopping as I type.

And as you know, a bit of Pink Tutu Shopping is one of my favourite ways to experience any city. And let me tell you, I have my eye on some rather splendid purchases – an oversized sunhat with a cherry red ribbon (because it's never too much pink, right?!), some beautifully embellished sandals with a touch of silver sparkle (for dancing in the Piazza Navona – perhaps?) and a vibrant floral patterned scarf (for twirling by the Trevi fountain). I just can’t resist these irresistible finds, can you? Oh and of course, I couldn’t possibly travel without a Pink Tutu Travel Bag – and no, darling, it’s not just a cute addition. I’m all about the organisation, the right bag for everything, and you won’t believe how much I can fit into a gorgeous pink Tutu Travel Bag!

Ballet in Rome

Now, this wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu blog without talking about some ballet! Rome is known for its amazing classical opera and ballet heritage, so naturally, my agenda was full.

Tonight, I'm excited about attending a performance by the Opera di Roma's company at Teatro Costanzi, a breathtaking theatre with opulent red velvet seating and ornate gilded details. My toes are already tapping – it’s going to be a fantastic night of swirling tutus and breathtaking technique. You better believe I’m wearing my ballet flats – there’s nothing like a touch of sparkle for adding a little something extra, am I right?

But even with all the fabulous performances I’m soaking up, I'm always on the hunt for some fabulous ballet street dancing. It seems, with the amazing outdoor piazzas that seem to abound in this beautiful city, there are impromptu street ballet performances taking place all over. I simply love this kind of atmosphere. I just can’t get enough!

A Feast for the Senses

And how could I talk about Rome without mentioning the incredible food? Honestly, from the fresh pasta in local trattorias to the creamy gelato served with a flourish – it's a food lover’s paradise. We must of course have some Roman Spaghetti Carbonara. This city loves to celebrate flavour. It’s all about quality and flavour. There’s definitely a feel-good factor about the food here. I’m also thinking of heading to the local bakery to pick up some traditional Roman pastry.

Pink Tutu in Rome

As you can imagine, my pink tutu is turning heads wherever we go, which is just how I like it! In this vibrant city, a bit of pink never goes amiss, trust me, everyone just melts and gives me the biggest smiles, which I love. They always get a good giggle. I do sometimes have to politely remind them that "Yes, it is a real tutu!". You know, some people just can’t handle it! However, that just makes me want to share it even more!

I've found myself on an impromptu ballet adventure through the streets – I just have to make the most of the energy here.

I've been inspired

That’s it for now! I'll keep you posted about my explorations. The city is just waiting for more Pink Tutu moments – the perfect combination of romance and style, which is just what a ballet girl like me needs. Next up – the Pantheon and that delicious Tiramisu we found in the corner of our beautiful hotel...

Until next week,

Emma

XOXO

Join me in wearing pink, join me in exploring Rome!

P.S: Have I mentioned that I'm absolutely loving my stay in a quaint little hotel in Trastevere. It's got all the Italian charm I could ever want! I just know you’d love it too!
