Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1144 - Roman Holiday in a Pink Tutu!
Buongiorno from the Eternal City, darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-clad traveller Emma, and I'm finally in Rome! 🇮🇹 This has been a dream of mine for ages, and after months of planning, saving every penny from my ballet performances, and twirling my way through my latest touring gig in Naples, I'm finally here!
As you all know, Wednesdays are dedicated to my travel blog, and what better way to kick off my Roman adventures than with a post from this truly enchanting city? Rome has always had a special place in my heart, mainly because it's the birthplace of the glorious ballerina, Anna Pavlova. And I, of course, must always be inspired by her legacy, right? 🩰
So, let's dive straight into my Roman escapade! The moment I stepped off the train from Naples (yes, I opted for a delightful train journey, because who doesn't love gazing at the Italian countryside while sipping espresso?), I was struck by the buzzing energy of Rome. The cobblestone streets were brimming with life, from bustling markets to elegant boutiques, all echoing with the vibrant sounds of chatter, laughter, and, of course, delicious food smells.
Finding My Pink Haven: Shopping in Rome's Fashion Wonderland
Now, every traveller knows, the first rule of Rome is - shop! 🛍️ You simply can't visit this fashion capital without indulging in a little retail therapy. So, my very first stop, after my mandatory cappuccino fix at a cute cafe on Via Condotti, was at the luxurious boutique of Valentino. I know, I know, I’m a bit of a dreamer, but one can’t visit the Italian capital without soaking in some of that incredible craftsmanship. While I’m dreaming of that fairytale red gown I spotted in the window (maybe a Christmas present, hmmm? 😉), I settled for a beautiful vintage pink scarf with a delicate floral print. Just a little something to add some pink to my wardrobe, obviously!
Tutu-Ready for the Roman Theatre:
Later that evening, I was lucky enough to catch a fantastic production of Tosca at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. This incredible theatre, steeped in history, is just as glamorous as its performances. My sparkly tutu was ready, even if it was a bit too pink for the opera's black and red theme. You’ve gotta embrace a bit of mismatch sometimes, don't you think? 😅 The entire experience was magical; the voices were magnificent, the music was breathtaking, and the setting simply transported me to another era. And then there were those costumes! Oh my, so much lace and sparkle and layers of silk, like stepping into a fairy tale! It left me completely spellbound.
Flavours of Rome: Where Food Meets Fashion
No trip to Rome is complete without a food journey, and my first stop was at the charming restaurant La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali. Tucked away in the heart of Rome, near the Forum, it felt like a hidden gem, serving authentic Italian cuisine. The deliciousness began with a stunning caprese salad, fresh mozzarella drizzled with basil pesto and perfectly ripe tomatoes. Oh, and let’s not forget that creamy risotto and the delicious lasagna – all washed down with a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio. I’d definitely recommend making time to savour every delicious bite, darlings! 🍝
Pink-tinted Tours and History in the Making:
The next day was all about exploring Rome's rich history and beautiful landmarks. And what better way to do so than in a pink tutu, naturally! The first stop was the Colosseum, a majestic symbol of the city. Walking around the arena where gladiators once battled, I felt a shiver run down my spine. I had to take a quick selfie there, of course, for you guys! The grandeur of the architecture, the intricate details of the Roman ruins – it’s just an amazing journey back in time.
Taking Flight at the Trevi Fountain:
Later, I headed to the Trevi Fountain, Rome’s most famous landmark. It’s truly spectacular, all that flowing water and beautiful carvings. They say if you throw a coin over your shoulder, you'll return to Rome, but I just tossed in two pence for good luck, just in case! While taking photos at this enchanting fountain, I saw a charming street performer doing ballet in a flowing tutu - and just imagine my delight, he was actually wearing a shade of pink, much like my very own signature pink! I swear I saw him smile when he caught my eye, a fellow tutu-lover! 🩰💖
Sunset Bliss at the Spanish Steps:
To top off this blissful day, I strolled to the elegant Spanish Steps and admired the incredible panorama of Rome, bathed in the golden glow of sunset. I think Rome just might be the most picturesque city in the world! And to celebrate, I grabbed the most delightful gelato - hazelnut, of course - a treat fit for a tutu-clad princess. 😉
Beyond the Tourist Trail:
While all the iconic sites were amazing, what I love the most is finding the hidden treasures that Rome offers. Just wandering through the narrow cobblestone streets, with their quaint little cafes and artisan shops, I stumbled upon an independent ballet shop with all sorts of costumes and tutus – so inspiring! The shopkeeper was the nicest lady, and she even showed me a vintage pink tutu, which, obviously, I just had to buy! 😍
My Roman Style: A Touch of Pink in the Eternal City
I think it’s time to give you a sneak peek at what I’ve been wearing in Rome! Obviously, every outfit has to feature a little pink, whether it’s a bright pink beret paired with a simple white dress, a pink silk scarf tucked around a black jumpsuit, or even a pink polka dot clutch bag to complete a stylish look. Let’s just say, I’m embracing every shade of pink the Roman fashion scene has to offer, darlings!
A Heart Full of Love for Rome:
Well, darlings, there you have it – my whirlwind first day in Rome! From captivating performances and stunning architecture, to the tastiest treats and charming boutiques, it truly has been an unforgettable experience. It feels like a dream come true! I can’t wait to explore even more hidden corners and share my experiences with you next Wednesday! Stay tuned! Ciao! 💖🇮🇹
