Pink Tutu Rome: #1148 - La Dolce Vita with a Tutu Twist!
Buongiorno bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu travel diary! This week I'm in the Eternal City, Rome, Italy, and let me tell you, it's already living up to its name! From the majestic Colosseum to the bustling Trastevere, this city has captured my heart (and my Instagram feed!).
Before we dive into my Rome adventures, I just want to say a huge thank you for all your lovely comments and messages on my last post about my recent ballet performances at the Derby Theatre. It's such a wonderful feeling to share my love for dance with all of you! As many of you know, it's through performing and teaching that I can fund my travel dreams, and Rome is certainly a dream come true.
Travel by Train, It’s the Way to Be!
You know I love nothing more than hopping aboard a train to reach my next adventure, and this time, the journey to Rome was particularly magical. I snagged a window seat on the Eurostar, settled in with a good book (I'm currently obsessed with "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" – have you read it? It’s amazing), and let the beautiful European countryside scenery wash over me. A long train journey is always a chance for me to dream, to plan and to soak up the anticipation of a new destination. And arriving in Rome with its warm, sunny atmosphere and the gentle sounds of the city was just… perfection.
A Pink Tutu in the City of Fashion
Now, I couldn’t possibly be in Rome without indulging in some serious fashion exploration. First stop was Via Condotti – you know, that fabulous street teeming with designer boutiques and stylish Romans. I did manage to resist the temptation of that stunning Gucci dress (although the little pink top did come home with me!), but I found a delightful vintage store bursting with whimsical fabrics, lace, and oh, so many pink tulle options. A pink tutu is never out of place in this city, but this week I decided to make a subtle statement with a dusty pink tulle skirt and a pair of ballet flats, accessorizing with a delicate, floral headpiece for a hint of Roman romanticism. I may have accidentally wandered into a chic afternoon tea party (yes, that happened!) – the local fashionistas must have thought I was one of them. 😉
La Dolce Vita at The Trevi Fountain
No trip to Rome would be complete without visiting the legendary Trevi Fountain. I was absolutely captivated by its grandeur, its intricate details, and of course, by the legend of throwing a coin into its waters for a return trip. Needless to say, a shiny gold coin (that was conveniently pink!) ended up wishing me well for future adventures. I spent quite some time mesmerized by the fountain, enjoying the bustling atmosphere and people-watching with a refreshing gelato (I'm a huge pistachio fan, if you couldn't tell!). A little tutu-twirling was inevitable, too! The sound of my pink tulle twirling around me echoed like a whisper in the gentle breeze, adding a touch of ballet magic to the iconic scene.
A Ballet Evening in the Heart of Rome
This evening, I'm attending a ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I simply cannot resist a good ballet show, and knowing that the history of ballet in Rome goes back centuries adds another layer of intrigue to the experience. I'm particularly excited to see the iconic "Swan Lake," a masterpiece of romantic ballet with its unforgettable white tutus and timeless story of love and loss. I can't wait to get dressed up and immerse myself in this cultural treasure. I’m thinking of a simple, chic black dress with a touch of sparkle and of course, my ballet flats – maybe a pink bow wouldn’t be too out of place? Who knows what beautiful inspiration might spark during the performance?
More Adventures to Come!
There's still so much more to discover in Rome. I’m already dreaming of visiting the Colosseum, soaking up the beauty of the Pantheon, and exploring the vibrant Trastevere neighbourhood. I’ll also be taking a day trip to the picturesque Amalfi Coast, and you can bet I'll be documenting all my adventures right here on my blog.
A Final Thought: The Magic of a Pink Tutu
It's a little known fact that Rome holds a special place in my heart because of my love for ballet. The legendary ballerina, Maria Taglioni, the woman who helped to shape ballet as we know it, found immense success here in the 19th century, and you can still see a statue of her dancing at the Teatro Costanzi, which now houses the Opera di Roma.
So you see, this magical city is infused with the spirit of dance, and there's no better way to celebrate this connection than by twirling through its streets with a pink tutu, my ultimate symbol of passion, joy, and self-expression.
I'm also convinced that everyone should embrace their inner ballerina and give a pink tutu a whirl. Whether it's at home, on the street, or in the beautiful piazzas of Rome, it's a chance to step outside your comfort zone, let your imagination run wild, and spread a little bit of pink joy. Remember, a pink tutu is more than just a garment – it’s a statement, an attitude, and a reminder that there’s always room for a little magic in life.
Ciao for now,
Emma
