Pink Tutu Rome #1154: Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 19th July 2017

Sunshine streaming through the window, birds chirping outside, and me? Well, I'm sipping my cappuccino and watching the world go by from my little balcony. Honestly, Rome is everything I'd dreamed of!

This is my first time in Italy and the capital city hasn't disappointed. I arrived last night, journeyed here on a lovely train ride through the picturesque Italian countryside, which was a journey in itself! The view was breathtaking! All I could think of was the song “The Hills are Alive” from the Sound of Music. I even pulled out my own version of my tutu - I call it my "travel tutu" - because of course, I had to take some snaps by the side of the tracks with the mountains in the background. I swear, everyone on the train was looking!

Speaking of my tutu, I've decided it's time to launch a campaign, folks! I want everyone, everywhere to wear a pink tutu. It's the symbol of fun, femininity, and the absolute joy of movement! Imagine the world with everyone embracing their inner twirly, joyful self. It’s a vision that I think everyone would enjoy. Imagine it! So let's get on with this - a worldwide pink tutu rebellion!

Anyways, I’m a bit distracted. Back to the beauty of Rome... Today was all about exploration! First stop, Piazza Navona, which was just... well... AMAZING! Bustling with people, musicians, artists, and even some street performers dressed as Roman centurions! It's so surreal, this blend of ancient history and modern vibrancy.

My morning was dedicated to my favourite pastime – clothes shopping! I’m convinced this was my most fabulous purchase to date - a brand new, hot pink silk shawl. And just the other day, I received an incredible parcel – it was a pink satin dance bag! I feel absolutely fab whenever I wear my dance bag - and now I have another one!

I felt so Italian in my pink-tinted, new pink, satin dancing shoes – I’m thinking of getting myself a second pair for Rome, or maybe a gorgeous pair of sparkly pink shoes with the iconic pointed toe shape – can’t you just picture them with the outfits that I have planned to wear?

You may recall that one of my very favourite shops, Anthropologie, has a store in Rome, which I had to visit. I came away with a selection of stunning pink candles, and the most wonderful pink satin fabric with gold flecks in it to sew some little pink ballet pouches – maybe I’ll add some rhinestones! The possibilities are endless!

My next stop was the Pantheon, this absolutely breathtaking ancient temple. Imagine a space with the ceiling as open to the sky – just phenomenal! The beauty and sheer magnitude of it had me breathless for a good five minutes before I was able to catch my breath and think of other things… such as my itinerary for this afternoon, the highlight of which would be attending a ballet performance, of course.

So after some fabulous people-watching in the gorgeous cafes that I discovered, I grabbed my favourite ballerina shoes – you know the ones – the super-pretty bright pink pointe shoes. These are my favourite - a perfect compliment to my pink tutu! – and off I went. A quick dash to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and voila, my eyes feasted on a truly fabulous performance by some talented young dancers. And guess what? It was pink themed! There was pink silk everywhere and pink backdrops and I mean who doesn’t love a pink stage? It really added something special, especially because pink is my favourite colour. It felt like my heart could burst.

Before you get the wrong impression - there’s way more to me than pink – I can't resist adding a touch of whimsy and glitter to my every day look. In fact, as I sit here in my hotel room - which you are all very welcome to imagine is like the most gorgeous princess room, you know - and write this blog, I am sporting my most darling pink sequin top with my favourite sparkly ballet skirt! A truly amazing outfit that makes me want to pirouette just thinking about it – well… the skirt would twirl fabulously! It's a reminder that being feminine is all about feeling free, expressive and just a little bit daring, like my Pink Tutu Rome campaign – now don't you agree?

What's happening next?

Well, Tomorrow is a whirlwind of visits – I have my list and it includes the Vatican! Of course, I will also make a detour to the Vatican Museums to view the spectacular Sistine Chapel. I have to see it - imagine a ceiling full of fabulous frescoes! How fabulous would it be to have the opportunity to dance in a room with these stunning painted works on the ceiling! Maybe I should see if I can take some ballet shoes with me for a pirouette around the museum when nobody is looking – can you imagine my photos – oh, it would be such a delight!

Now that it’s getting dark, I’m going to pop on a sparkling pink dress - a really dazzling creation! - because, naturally, there’s nowhere else to be on a Wednesday evening except in the Piazza Navona where I'm hoping for an evening street performance by an excellent musician, just me and a bunch of Italian people - that's my ideal.
