Pink Tutu Rome - Post 1176 - Wednesday 20th December 2017

Buongiorno bellissimo Rome!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another fabulous Pink Tutu adventure! And this week, my lovelies, we're in the Eternal City itself – Rome!

As you know, I adore travelling, and there's nothing I enjoy more than exploring a new city with my trusty pink tutu in tow. I simply can't resist a photo op in front of iconic landmarks, and I can't imagine a better outfit for making a statement and spreading a little bit of pink tutu magic.

I flew in this morning, but you all know how much I love taking the train. So I opted for a picturesque and romantic train journey through the Italian countryside, where I spotted vineyards and charming villages, all while wearing my newest pink tutu – a gorgeous creation from my favourite boutique in Derbyshire, just a little sprinkle of home in the heart of Italy!

The first thing that struck me about Rome is its energy. It's alive, it's vibrant, and it's utterly enchanting. You feel it in the cobblestone streets, hear it in the bustling markets, and see it in the beaming faces of the locals.

After settling into my quaint hotel (with its own little courtyard overflowing with geraniums - oh how I adore a touch of colour!), I took a leisurely stroll to the Spanish Steps. Of course, I couldn't resist snapping a few photos, with the sun dappling through the leaves and the gorgeous architectural details providing a stunning backdrop. I felt like I had stepped into a postcard.

My pink tutu and the city’s beautiful stonework made for some fabulous photos – it’s just such a magical combination, and of course, it sparked a few conversations with curious locals! The thing is, even if you're not into ballet, a pink tutu just puts a smile on everyone’s face! It’s such a symbol of joy, creativity, and individuality – and I’m all for spreading that.

After a quick pit stop for some authentic Italian gelato (let’s face it, it's a must!), I spent the afternoon exploring the city’s many churches. From the magnificent Basilica di San Pietro to the intimate Santa Maria sopra Minerva, each one held its own unique charm. The history, the artistry, and the spiritual presence just left me in awe. I can’t believe this was all happening right in the heart of a city that feels both ancient and modern!

But Rome is more than just beautiful buildings and historical treasures. The food scene here is absolutely divine! From mouth-watering pasta dishes to creamy tiramisu, each meal was a feast for the senses.

For dinner tonight, I found a charming little trattoria tucked away in a backstreet, where I enjoyed a delicious pizza and a bottle of local red wine. I felt a bit like I was back in Derbyshire with friends, catching up over some good food and laughter, just in a much warmer and more picturesque setting!

Speaking of catching up, I had to share my Italian adventures with you, my lovely Pink Tutu community! I feel so blessed to be able to travel the world and share my experiences with you. And it's you, my lovely readers, who fuel my travels, through my ballet performances back in Derbyshire, which allow me to do this. You know what they say, a little tutu goes a long way!

So what’s next? Well, tomorrow I’m heading to the Colosseum, a truly iconic monument and one of the best preserved examples of Roman architecture. It's such a massive piece of history! You'll definitely want to keep an eye out for photos from my pink tutu visit there!

And of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican! You bet your pink tutu that I will be posting about it here on the blog next week. I’m also on the hunt for a fabulous vintage pink tutu – just imagine that amongst the Roman architecture! - wouldn’t it just make the best photos?!

Oh and by the way, I also want to mention, tonight the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma is showing the Nutcracker! Now, you know how much I adore ballet, so naturally, I'm trying my best to snag tickets. Imagine a ballet at a venue like this! What an amazing experience that would be! Fingers crossed, it might be the perfect end to an absolutely dreamy Roman day!

So stay tuned, my lovely readers, because Rome has much more in store for me (and for you, my dear readers!)

A presto!

Emma xx

Pink Tutu Essentials:

This week's tutu: A gorgeous hand-sewn pink tulle number with intricate embroidery detailing (I just had to have it when I spotted it back home!) I wore it with a crisp white shirt, a little Chanel-inspired jacket and, of course, my signature ballerina flats!

Shopping Spree: I snagged a few beautiful leather bags from one of the local artisan shops (I couldn't resist the vibrant colours!), and found a charming vintage shop where I picked up a gorgeous pink silk scarf – definitely a reminder of my time here.

Food: Rome, you know, is like a food paradise! I enjoyed traditional dishes like pasta all’amatriciana, saltimbocca (a melt-in-your-mouth veal dish), and that creamy, dreamy tiramisu, it was just exquisite. And, of course, let’s not forget that beautiful, locally sourced gelato!

Travel tips:

Rome is an incredibly walkable city – the best way to really take it all in! I’m going to be spending a lot of my time getting lost in the side streets, stumbling upon hidden squares, and soaking in the incredible energy.

When you travel in the winter, don't forget your warm clothes and scarves. There might be some gorgeous sunshine but don't forget that beautiful churches and historical sights are lovely but a bit chilly at this time of year. I highly recommend carrying around a water bottle - you're gonna be doing a lot of walking!
