#PinkTutuRome - Post 1193: A Whirlwind Wednesday in the Eternal City

Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means – it's time for another #PinkTutuRome blog post! This week, I'm whizzing you all straight to the heart of the Eternal City - Rome, my darling!

As you know, I've just been in glorious Florence, and it truly is one of the most enchanting cities I've ever visited. I could quite easily spend another week just exploring its artistic treasures and picturesque piazzas. But for this lucky lass, a train journey was calling. You know me, I do love a good train trip, especially when it takes you to a place like Rome, steeped in history and bursting with Italian glamour!

The Pink Tutu Touches Down in Rome

The moment the train pulled into the station, I knew this city was going to sweep me off my feet. That heady mix of history, buzzing streets, and a sense of timeless elegance, it's enough to send any pink tutu-wearing ballerina into a swoon.

My first mission? Finding the perfect cafe to sip my morning cappuccino, naturally! The aroma of fresh espresso hit me like a wave of pure joy as I stepped into a charming little cafe. I just had to order a slice of lemon and poppy seed cake with my caffeine fix, it's a sweet and delicious tradition I've discovered since arriving in Italy.

Trevi Fountain: A Wish for Pink Tutu Adventures

After my delightful caffeine and cake stop, I knew where to go. The Trevi Fountain, of course! It's a classic, a must-see, and oh so magical. I must confess, I took a little bit longer than most people tossing a coin into the fountain - I closed my eyes, wished for countless pink tutu adventures across Italy, and then tossed a couple of coins in with a joyful little twirl. Now that's how to make a wish!

Colosseum and Roman History:

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the mighty Colosseum! Stepping inside those ancient stone walls sent shivers down my spine, just imagining the roar of the crowds during gladiator fights. It was an awe-inspiring experience. I think even my pink tutu was holding its breath!

Later that afternoon, I found myself wandering through the Forum, soaking up the history and the Roman vibes. Honestly, this city is like a walking, talking time capsule! And while it was an amazing adventure to wander back in time, it's good to be in the now!

The Pantheon's Powerful Beauty

My final stop for the day was the breathtaking Pantheon, and let me tell you, it’s just as stunning in real life as it is in the pictures! The light streaming through the oculus in the dome, the ancient marble, and the feeling of peacefulness... I could have stayed there for hours just absorbing the atmosphere.

Fashion Finds in Rome's Back Streets

No trip to Rome is complete without a touch of fashion, wouldn’t you agree? After a delicious (and very cheesy) pasta dinner, I wandered through some of Rome's less well-known back streets, hunting for vintage fashion finds and little boutiques overflowing with stylish accessories. I found a stunning vintage lace shawl, a perfect shade of dusky pink, which I just had to buy. Oh, and some tiny, sparkling silver earrings to match, because you simply can't go overboard on Italian sparkle!

Ballet Dreams and the Opera

Of course, I always love to see what’s on offer for the ballet and theatre world when I travel. On this particular Wednesday evening, I was absolutely delighted to find a performance at the Teatro dell’Opera. Now, I know Rome isn't just famous for its history and food, it also boasts a truly vibrant artistic scene. Tonight's performance, I have to say, was captivating. Watching the ballerinas pirouette and soar across the stage, well, it made my own ballerina heart flutter. This is what it’s all about!

Rome’s Quirky Charms

The other great thing about Rome is how many of its cafes and restaurants embrace the history of this city and the characters who lived and worked in it. Some of the little side streets have incredible art galleries and design stores, it's really easy to lose track of time, but in the best way possible!

The best bit? Discovering a tiny bakery hidden in one of the old Roman neighbourhoods that specialized in tiny pastries and sweet tarts filled with all manner of delicious creams and curds! This is just the kind of little discovery that makes travelling for me truly unforgettable.

A Pink Tutu Dreams Big

So that's my Wednesday whirlwind in Rome, darling! The day went by in a beautiful, pink-tutu-clad blur, but every moment was truly special. And as the sun set on another spectacular Roman evening, I dreamt of my next pink tutu adventures. Who knows what the Eternal City has in store for me tomorrow? But whatever it is, I know it’s going to be fabulous!

Coming Up Next Week on #PinkTutuRome:

I’ll be spending the week exploring more of Rome’s hidden treasures. My next adventure includes delving into some of its world-renowned art museums, because an artist never really has enough art! So, stay tuned! Until then, fare thee well, my dear readers, and remember, it’s never too late to put on a pink tutu and embrace life’s magical moments!
