Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu adventure! This week, I'm writing from the most magical city in the world – Rome! As a ballerina with a penchant for the finer things in life, there's nowhere else on Earth that quite captures my heart like this historical wonderland.
I travelled here by train, of course, because there's just something so wonderfully romantic about the journey. The views from the train window are like something out of a fairytale, especially as you weave through the countryside towards the Italian capital. I even managed to sneak in a little ballet practice on the train – much to the amusement of fellow passengers. 😉 You know me, I can't resist the opportunity to twirl!
The highlight of my Roman experience so far, however, has to be my visit to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I'm so lucky to be able to fund my travels by performing, and Rome gave me the most beautiful stage I could ask for! My debut in front of a Roman audience was, let's just say, a smashing success. The cheers echoed through the building, the applause was so heartfelt, and the floral bouquets were almost as magnificent as the building itself! It’s honestly one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life, dancing in front of such an enthusiastic crowd, knowing that I'm bringing the joy of ballet to people of all ages.
After the show, I couldn't resist indulging in a bit of Roman luxury. We headed straight for a cafe right in the heart of Piazza Navona, where I savoured a delightful cappuccino while gazing out at the stunning fountains and street performers. And who knew they had a 'Pink Tutu' latte here? I thought it was a little extravagant, but a cheeky ballerina has to indulge every now and again, right?
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a little retail therapy. I’ve spent the last couple of days indulging in some serious fashion finds – gorgeous linen dresses in the most exquisite shades of blush and peach, a pair of exquisite pink stilettos, and a whole stack of fabulous vintage accessories to match. I know, it’s hard to resist, and this is a real pink tutu paradise for all you lovely ladies. There's just something magical about Roman fashion – it's both stylish and chic, a perfect balance between classic and trendy, and a real inspiration for any fashionista.
But of course, a good day in Rome must include a walk amongst the ancient wonders! The Colosseum is even more imposing in person than in pictures - it’s the sheer scale and grandeur that really takes your breath away. I spent a good half hour simply wandering around, absorbing the history, and envisioning the gladiatorial contests that took place within its walls.
Speaking of gladiators, I’ve taken some inspiration from these strong and fierce warriors and decided to add a dash of Roman inspired touches to my personal style. A chunky gold necklace with a pendant that looks just like a miniature gladiatorial helmet, some Roman-themed earrings, and, of course, a delicate but very Roman-inspired blush-coloured dress with some clever details, just because it looks so fab with the golden accessories. Let’s face it, all that glitters is gold…and fabulous.
My evening stroll took me to the beautiful Trevi Fountain. Let me tell you, it’s even more dazzling at night. I made sure to toss in a couple of coins, hoping to bring luck my way, and to make sure I can return to this magical city someday soon! Of course, I wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu adventurer if I didn't make a wish that everyone I met wore a pink tutu - because that’s a sight that would be truly amazing to behold, right?
And to add even more joy to my trip, I'm already planning my next visit to see the most amazing performance: Romeo and Juliet by the Rome Opera Ballet Company, held right here in the heart of the Eternal City. The anticipation is building every single day! If you ever have the opportunity to catch a performance in Rome, I urge you to do so! Nothing beats live performance - the energy is electric!
