Pink Tutu Rome: #1209 – A Whirlwind of Fashion and Fontaines
Ciao bella! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Rome post! I’m so excited to share my adventures with you all this week.
This week, Rome is just bursting with magic and colour – I feel like I’m dancing in a dream! The sun is shining, the air is thick with the scent of freshly baked bread and espresso, and the streets are teeming with life. And what better place to soak up all that vibrancy than in a sparkling pink tutu?
Last week I arrived in Rome on the Eurostar, so comfy and stylish, it really makes train travel feel like a glamorous escape. I was greeted with the warm, familiar smell of Italy – the scent of terracotta rooftops, coffee beans, and jasmine – I immediately felt like I was home.
Now, let me tell you, this city has truly got it going on. It’s a wonderland of historical wonders, buzzing markets, delectable cuisine, and endless style inspiration.
From Baroque Splendour to Ballerina Street Style
After settling in, I made a beeline for the Trevi Fountain, the iconic masterpiece with its breathtaking marble architecture. You simply cannot go to Rome without experiencing this captivating monument. I couldn’t help but throw in a coin, making a wish for even more adventures to come! As I stood mesmerised by its grandeur, a street artist started sketching me. You know me, I simply adore anything that incorporates a touch of whimsy and art into daily life. He even added my beloved tutu to the drawing! It was pure magic.
Then, my quest for the most fashionable boutique led me to Via Condotti, where designer dreams come true. Oh, the colours, the textures, the beautiful window displays… My heart was truly singing. I indulged in some much-needed retail therapy, finding a stunning pink silk scarf to complement my new summer wardrobe. You simply cannot resist the charm of these boutique gems – every shop is like stepping into a different world, and it's all bursting with incredible creativity. I was totally blown away.
Opera & Art Deco – A Symphony of Beauty
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Colosseum. Stepping inside those ancient walls, imagining gladiators and roaring crowds, sent shivers down my spine. It's incredible to think of the stories those stones have witnessed over centuries. I spent the afternoon sketching the grand architecture and imagining those thrilling battles of long ago.
This evening, the grand Teatro dell'Opera di Roma treated us to a dazzling performance of Carmen. Oh, the costumes, the music, the passion! I was mesmerised, captivated, and utterly enchanted. It’s a true delight to experience such a breathtaking performance in such a stunning venue. There was a truly breathtaking moment when the chandelier in the ornate auditorium slowly descended with incredible grace.
Finding my Italian Flow
It's not just the grand landmarks and cultural performances that have captivated my senses, it's also the energy and charm of the little alleys, quaint cafes, and friendly locals. Everywhere you turn in Rome, there is a new story waiting to be uncovered. From wandering through the cobbled alleys to sitting beneath a fig tree in a hidden courtyard, each corner offers its own unique beauty. And let's not forget the delicious food! I'm currently addicted to tiramisu – every single bite is a pure delight! And who can resist fresh-baked focaccia and a glass of chilled vino rosso? Oh, Rome, you have truly captured my heart.
I love how everyone here seems to move at a slower pace, savouring each moment. In London, I am usually in such a rush, but in Rome, it feels like everyone takes time to enjoy a conversation, share a meal, and appreciate the finer things in life. This is a city that really knows how to celebrate life.
Ballet Inspiration
I even squeezed in a ballet class with a renowned teacher near the Piazza Navona. The studios here are vibrant, and filled with incredibly passionate dancers, just like my ballet family in Derbyshire. You just can’t escape that international love of ballet, can you? The sheer beauty and strength of classical ballet combined with the colourful energy of Italy... this is pure inspiration! I've already started incorporating some Italian elements into my own performances back in London! I think the audience is going to love the vibrant new costumes and choreography!
