Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1229 – December 26th, 2018 - Buon Natale, Italia!

Hello my dearest Tutu-lovers! It's Wednesday, and that means another glorious chapter in my Roman adventures is ready to unfold, straight from the cobblestone streets and piazzas of this breathtaking city. This week, I'm filled to the brim with the festive magic of Italy after a whirlwind Christmas, and let me tell you, I wouldn't trade it for all the sugared almonds in the world.

A Pink Christmas Dream in Rome

From the moment I stepped off the train, I knew I was in for something special. The crisp Italian air was buzzing with excitement, the scent of pine needles and cinnamon danced on the breeze, and Christmas lights twinkled with a mischievous twinkle in their eyes. Rome truly knows how to embrace the holiday spirit. Every corner you turn explodes with decorations, each more beautiful than the last, and the joyous music drifting from cafes fills you with pure festive joy.

I found myself absolutely swept away by the spirit of Christmas. Rome felt incredibly romantic – just the way you’d imagine it would be for your very first Italian Christmas. The ancient monuments bathed in Christmas lights looked like scenes from a fairytale, and I spent hours just gazing up at them in awe. My trusty camera, as always, had its work cut out for it, snapping photos at every enchanting corner.

A Ballet Ballerina's Paradise

For a ballerina, Christmas is a magical time, and my love for dance, my dear Tutu-loving friends, knows no bounds. Imagine this – strolling through a cobbled square, adorned with festive cheer, and discovering a small, quaint theatre tucked away on a side street. The faintest strains of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker music emanate from within. You just know that you have to peek inside. It was one of those "fate-meant-for-me" moments, the kind that happen when your ballerina heart whispers, “Go, Emma, go!”

Of course, I did! I had to! This little theatre turned out to be an intimate space brimming with festive joy and warmth. A charming local ballet company, "Le Stelle," was performing an abridged version of The Nutcracker, their dedication to their art, radiating like a radiant glow. I spent an hour enchanted by their artistry, the perfect way to spend a quiet Christmas afternoon in Rome.

Festive Fashion Finds: Pink-tastic!

Christmas is never complete without some much-needed retail therapy, especially when you're surrounded by the fashionista heart of Italy. As any seasoned Tutu-wearer knows, Rome is a paradise for fashion-lovers, boasting hidden boutiques and iconic designers. So naturally, I dove into a world of textures and styles, scouring the streets for that perfect holiday outfit.

Spoiler Alert: My trip would have been a disaster without the pink-tastic discovery I made. I stumbled upon a small shop, hidden amidst a labyrinth of Roman alleyways, called “Rosabella." Imagine a treasure trove of lace, satin, and chiffon, all draped and flowing in a delightful kaleidoscope of pinks. They had dresses in every shade of blush, rose, and raspberry, and I'm telling you, I left with more than a few gorgeous outfits to bring back to my beloved Derbyshire!

A Taste of Roman Delights

No journey to Rome would be complete without indulging in the glorious cuisine. This festive season, every restaurant I entered was brimming with festive spirit, adorned with holly wreaths and candles. From indulging in pasta carbonara to devouring steaming plates of gnocchi and tiramisu – oh, the tiramisu! – the flavours were truly divine, a symphony for the senses. Each meal was an adventure, a delightful sensory experience that transported me right to the heart of Italian hospitality.

Back in Derbyshire

Rome has definitely painted itself onto my heart with its vibrant colours, joyous spirit and architectural wonders. My dear Derbyshire, I miss you already, but I’m back with a suitcase full of beautiful souvenirs, not to mention a wardrobe that is a true ode to the colour pink, of course! I'm brimming with inspiration and already dreaming of the next adventure. Until then, stay fabulous and remember, you’re never fully dressed without a pink tutu! Ciao bella, from my Roman adventures,

Emma xxx
