Pink Tutu Rome: A Dance Through the Eternal City - Post #1235

Buongiorno bella! It's Emma, your resident Pink Tutu aficionado, and today we're dancing our way through the captivating streets of Rome. My trip to the Eternal City was a whimsical, twirling whirlwind of cobblestones, cobbled alleyways, and of course, the most beautiful pink sunsets you've ever seen!

This week on the Pink Tutu blog, we're heading to the heart of Italy. Rome, the city that inspired a thousand paintings and a million sighs, was simply a must-see for this pink tutu-clad explorer! As you may know, Wednesday is our travel day at Pink Tutu HQ, and you guys know me, I can't resist a little tutu-tastic travel fashion inspiration.

From Derbyshire to the Eternal City

Leaving behind the rolling green hills of Derbyshire (where else?!), I boarded the Eurostar train at St Pancras, my trusty ballet bag nestled beside me. Oh, the joys of train travel - that clickety-clack of the rails, a calming murmur of travel chatter, and the chance to watch the world whizz by from the comfort of your own window. (And of course, to indulge in a spot of reading, catching up on the latest fashion trends in Vogue, and perhaps even practising a few graceful steps!)

After a thrilling journey across Europe, we finally arrived at Roma Termini, the beating heart of this ancient metropolis. From the station, the first glimpse of Rome unfolded like a majestic scene in an opera - grand piazzas, sun-drenched architecture, and, of course, that legendary Italian sunshine. I was absolutely giddy, ready to dive into this incredible city.

Tutu-fying Rome

It was a real whirlwind - every corner presented a new scene, every square a new story. My tutu twirling started at the Colosseum, the world’s most impressive amphitheatre. This is a must-visit! It’s so massive you feel positively minuscule standing before it, picturing gladiators battling amidst roaring crowds. Let’s be honest, you can’t help but feel like a fierce Roman gladiator in your Pink Tutu, the perfect mix of modern and ancient!

The next day, I ventured into Vatican City, the heart of Catholicism. Standing in St. Peter's Square was absolutely humbling, gazing at the grandeur of St Peter’s Basilica, it was as though every stone held whispers of faith and history. I felt a spiritual glow radiating from the entire space, making me truly feel grateful for my journey so far.

For all the amazing landmarks, the highlight of my trip had to be the food. Pasta and pizza, creamy gelato, fresh, fragrant pasta - every mouthful was an explosion of deliciousness. And I absolutely can’t forget a little Italian fashion shopping. A fabulous, glittery new dress caught my eye, and of course, some charming Italian boots are just begging to be taken for a spin in a balletic pose.

Ballet in Rome - More than a Passion, a Way of Life

Rome was a fantastic opportunity to absorb all things ballet, too! I’d heard whisperings about La Scala, the world-renowned Milan Opera House, and its renowned ballet , and so naturally, I took the opportunity to book a ticket for a fantastic ballet performance. The city has a vibrant ballet culture, with classical ballets, contemporary interpretations and ballet schools on every street corner.

From watching seasoned professionals perform flawlessly to observing students finding their artistic footing at a school on Via del Corso, ballet felt everywhere. It was invigorating, watching talented performers gracefully move through a story told in the language of the body. It’s incredible how a movement of the wrist, a graceful arch, can communicate such intense emotions and complex narratives.

For the first time in a long while, I felt utterly absorbed in a creative bubble. I wanted to dance, move to my own rhythm, explore new interpretations of these balletic movements.

Pink Tutu Thoughts

Every experience was richer with the sheer beauty of Rome. It's an eclectic mix of grandeur and intimacy, history and modernism. The beauty of its architecture, its timeless artistry, and its passionate culture all made an incredible impression on me. And, I admit, the pasta and the shoes, they weren't half bad either.

Rome, you've truly left a piece of your magic on me. I’m back home now, but you’re still with me, in the echoes of the music at the Colosseum, in the taste of the gelato, in the sight of those incredible sunsets, and in the pink tutu I’ve already worn more times this week than I’ve worn any other outfit!

This week’s Ballet Highlight:

Rome is brimming with talented ballet dancers, and as my ballet-obsessed mind cannot get enough, I went to see a beautiful performance of Swan Lake at Teatro dell'Opera. It was an absolutely incredible production, showcasing incredible choreography, powerful dancers, and that stunning score that pulls at the heartstrings of every ballerina!

And on my ballet calendar this week: I’ll be sharing my top picks of some incredible new tutu designs for Spring/Summer 2019, along with the most exciting upcoming performances you won’t want to miss! Make sure you stay tuned for those!

Do let me know your favourite parts of the ballet, and of course, if you’ve got a Pink Tutu Moment this week, I’d love to hear all about it!

Yours in Pink Tutu,

Emma.
