Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella!
#PinkTutuRome Wednesday 2019-10-09 - Post 1270
Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, and guess what? I'm in Rome! The Eternal City, the City of Seven Hills, a feast for the senses... Iām so excited! The moment I stepped off the train from Florence, the sun was shining, the air was alive with music, and there was a real buzz of energy. You know me, a good old-fashioned train journey - I always find it's the perfect time to catch up on some reading and dreaming of where I'm going next.
I landed in Rome on a Wednesday afternoon, my luggage crammed with tutus and some lovely pink and flowery dresses, ready to tackle the Italian capital in all its glory. My apartment in the Trastevere neighbourhood is beyond gorgeous! You can peek into it if you follow my instagram - I've shared loads of pictures! My darling host, Valentina, is absolutely lovely and has been telling me about all the best spots to visit and the secret places where I can get the tastiest gelato!
Right now, as I'm writing this post, I'm sitting outside a little cafƩ watching the world go by. There are so many friendly faces here! I've been experimenting with the local language (I think "ciao bella" and "Grazie Mille" are a good starting point!). Everyone has been so welcoming! I had the best spaghetti carbonara earlier - my lips were practically glued together after it!
Tonight is a ballet show in a lovely, old theatre with beautiful gold balconies. I'm hoping to see a traditional Italian dance routine as well as a classical performance of Giselle. Of course, I'll be twirling in my trusty pink tutu - even if it means having to carry my fabulous but cumbersome dress shoes to the show! I can't wait to tell you all about it.
Now, let me take you on a whirlwind tour of my dayā¦
A Day in Pink Tutu Rome!
Right, it's Wednesday afternoon in Rome! After saying hello to my new neighbourhood (which, by the way, is crammed with lovely little restaurants, shops and markets ā perfect for finding some amazing vintage pieces!) and enjoying the sun in my favorite spot by the River Tiber (I can feel this is going to be a good spot for a ballet photo!), it was time to do a bit of exploring!
The Pantheon: Breathtaking Beauty
My first stop? The Pantheon! My goodness, it's magnificent! I mean, how can they have created such an incredible masterpiece almost 2,000 years ago? The dome is breathtaking, with a giant hole at the top ā you can see the clouds! Apparently, this allows in a beautiful light that dances across the marble floor. My pink tutu felt right at home amongst the ornate marble pillars! I twirled under the Pantheonās famous dome - the echo of my dance was magical. Honestly, if you come to Rome, you MUST visit this place ā you canāt miss it!
A little Lunch Break: Aperitivo in Trastevere
After all that walking (and twirling!), I needed some food! It was time for a little Aperitivo! This is a tradition in Italy where you can get snacks and a drink before a meal. I went to a lovely little trattoria, tucked away in a cobbled side street. The Italian word ātrattoriaā literally means āinnā, and this one certainly lived up to its name. The locals sat outside chatting and drinking wine and I joined them. They were lovely. I picked a glass of the local sparkling white and a delicious selection of bread, olive oil, meats and cheeses. Delicious!
The Trevi Fountain: My Tutu's Wish
Okay, so Iāve heard all about the Trevi Fountain, and it's true, it really is impressive! It's surrounded by such beautiful buildings, and you canāt deny its impact! They say if you throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain youāll return to Rome ā and if you throw in two youāll fall in love, which is an absolute bonus! You know me, I've got a whole suitcase of pink tutus - so that means I could definitely get at least two to throw! But the best part? This whole area felt like a ballet stage. I found myself getting into the groove!
I wandered around for ages taking photos and taking in the atmosphere. A whole troupe of Italian students seemed to think I was doing an amazing performance in my pink tutu and cheered me on! It was amazing!
Shopping Therapy at Campo deā Fiori
After all this sightseeing, it was time for a bit of shopping therapy! It was my favourite part of the day. There was a brilliant market ā I got to do some shopping for lovely clothes and accessories! And of course, I indulged in my favourite ā handmade jewellery. The colours were stunning. And then, in true pink-tutu style, I spotted a stall selling all kinds of beautiful ballet shoes! Now thatās my kind of place! The owner said they were made especially for ballerinas! I mean, what a fab find! You canāt ask for more.
Ciao, Bella Rome!
Well, my loves, itās late now. Time to get ready for tonight's ballet! But you know me, this blog post was just a small taste of my journey - there are SO many more stories, photos, and places to share. It feels as though I am being enveloped by a wonderful, fairy-tale Italian romance. Itās all so romantic! Youāre going to love seeing all my new finds - from my incredible ballet shoes to my fab shopping hauls! Oh, and letās not forget all my new favourite recipes and the fabulous places I've eaten in!
Donāt forget to follow my journey next week for my #PinkTutuRome posts on my website ā I canāt wait to show you more!
And remember, every single one of you is a ballerina. Just remember to twirl your own way and live your dreams. You can make them a reality - with just a dash of sparkle and a little bit of pink!
