This week, I’m delighted to share with you a peek into my week-long adventure in Rome. You've already seen my Instagram feed explode with photos of fountains, piazzas, and ancient ruins, but today, my darlings, I’m spilling the tea on everything I did and how this enchanting city completely stole my heart.
Getting to the Heart of Rome: A Train Ride to Remember
If you’re reading this, chances are you know my passion for train journeys. They are just the most relaxing way to get around, especially when you can stare out the window, dream, and imagine yourself swirling in a performance. This time, I took a first-class seat (treat yourself!), with a gorgeous, old-fashioned compartment with velvet seats and even a cute little tea trolley – it was straight out of a movie! It allowed me to truly soak in the breathtaking Italian countryside on the way to the vibrant city centre.
Fashion Finds: Pink, of Course!
Rome, as I’m sure you know, is a fashion mecca, and this girl couldn’t resist diving headfirst into the shops! I'm a true believer that you can find a pink tutu just about anywhere – and trust me, I've been shopping. You should see the collection of delicate tulle skirts I acquired, ready to match every single outfit. Now, I'm all about incorporating these delightful creations into my daily looks – what better way to feel like a princess exploring the Colosseum?!
But, in all seriousness, the Italian fashion scene is on another level. From timeless, elegant dresses to funky, leather jackets – I absolutely loved strolling through the chic boutiques. I even stumbled across this little hole-in-the-wall store selling stunning vintage dresses, perfect for twirling around a historic piazza. Oh, the photos I took in my new pink tutu - a masterpiece!
A Ballet Lover’s Dream Come True: La Scala Ballet Academy
I can't possibly talk about Rome without mentioning the beautiful ballet school – La Scala Academy. Yes, you read that right! Right here in this ancient city, there's a hidden gem where passionate dancers train and aspire for greatness. It felt incredibly humbling to visit such a legendary institution. I even had the chance to observe a ballet class, watching future prima ballerinas leap across the floor with incredible grace and poise. The entire atmosphere was filled with such intense focus and pure joy for the art form – truly inspiring!
The Eternal City's Unexpected Delights
Honestly, there's simply too much to mention, and even listing everything feels like a disservice to this gorgeous city. It’s just packed with unique experiences, from wandering through ancient ruins to sipping cappuccino under the Tuscan sun. But, here are some of my favourite highlights:
The Colosseum: I don’t even know where to begin! Standing there amongst all the stone and history, it just transports you to a completely different time. It’s truly a spectacle of strength and endurance.
The Trevi Fountain: It’s one of those landmarks you have to see to believe! The atmosphere around it was truly electrifying, with locals and tourists alike tossing coins into the water. It feels like the heart of Rome, and it truly does capture that timeless quality.
The Pantheon: A little bit of a secret gem! This architectural masterpiece is breathtaking – with a perfectly circular opening in the dome letting in beams of light. It was absolutely stunning and felt remarkably peaceful amidst the bustling streets.
Dining Like a Princess:
Of course, no Rome adventure is complete without savoring the divine cuisine! And let me tell you, from freshly-baked pizzas to the richest pastas and the most decadent gelatos, I truly lived my best foodie life!
A Special Ballet Performance:
But listen up, my darlings, because you know how much I adore live performances! And I simply had to check out one of Rome's renowned ballet theatres during my stay! This performance took me right back to my Derbyshire roots, with classical grace and mesmerizing storytelling. I had the time of my life and I'm already planning to return!
Remember My Pink Tutu?
You might be thinking, what about that pink tutu I promised?! Well, let’s just say it got quite a workout. Whether it was spinning around the Roman Forum, enjoying a slice of pizza, or twirling in a quiet corner, my pink tutu always accompanied me – adding a dash of whimsical joy to every experience. I just love that you can wear pink tutus to any event! It adds such a touch of happiness, confidence, and just pure magic. I'm on a mission to get everyone to wear a pink tutu – just imagine the possibilities!
