Pink Tutu Rome: Week 1283 ā€“ Roman Revelations and Pink Paradise

Ciao bella! Itā€™s Wednesday, which means it's time for another dose of pink perfection from your favourite ballerina blogger. This week Iā€™m beaming back at you from the heart of Rome, a city as vibrant and full of life as a swirling, twirling tutu.

It was a long, but glorious, journey down to the Eternal City. I always say thereā€™s nothing more magical than gliding through the countryside on a train, especially when itā€™s a romantic Eurostar. And let me tell you, with a killer playlist blasting and a full-length pink tutu - just the right shade to complement my new fuchsia cashmere scarf - I certainly made the most of the scenery.

As the train rattled towards Rome, my mind was bursting with excitement for all the wonders that awaited: cobblestone streets, majestic monuments, ancient historyā€¦ and of course, endless opportunities for fabulous fashion finds. Rome, it seems, is just as smitten with pink as I am ā€“ itā€™s everywhere, from the candy-coloured gelato carts to the blush-toned facades of the historic buildings. It's a feast for my pink-loving eyes.

Fashion First, Then History!

I may be a ballet fanatic but my love affair with fashion is almost as passionate. Landing in Rome was like stepping onto the stage of the ultimate fashion show! I couldnā€™t resist a quick jaunt around the boutique-lined streets near the Pantheon, where I discovered a whimsical little shop bursting with colourful frocks, shimmering sequins, and, you guessed it, a pink tutu or two!

You'll be seeing pictures of my purchases in my next post, but hereā€™s a little sneak peek: A delicate, lace-trimmed pink ballet dress with just a hint of glitter ā€“ perfect for my evening at the Teatro dell'Opera! It's not often I get to see ballet in such a historically significant venue ā€“ it's one of the worldā€™s oldest, and renowned for its exquisite acoustics. Tonightā€™s performance is "La Traviata" and I simply can't wait.

The Eternal City and My Eternal Love for Ballet

After indulging my inner fashionista, it was time to take in some of Rome's famous history. The Colosseum stood before me, a magnificent reminder of a bygone era. The history felt palpable - almost tangible ā€“ in this city thatā€™s played host to empires, wars, and artistic revolutions.

While the Roman emperors might not have embraced pink tutus (imagine Caligula - that would be something!), I canā€™t help but feel their echoes in the city's streets, the whispering arches, the grand statues ā€“ a sense of history and beauty that permeates everything.

The following day was filled with art and ancient wonders: the Galleria Borghese, where Caravaggio's art took my breath away with its drama and intensity. But even in the presence of such masterful paintings, I couldnā€™t help but wonder what a Caravaggio painting of a tutu-wearing dancer would look like. The light and shadows would be sublime! Perhaps a project for my upcoming series ā€œPaintings on Pointeā€, eh? (Watch this space!)

Sharing the Love - A Tutu Revolution Begins

There is nothing quite like exploring a new city through the eyes of a passionate traveller. My wanderings often take me on spontaneous journeys ā€“ whether itā€™s chasing the aroma of freshly baked focaccia, getting lost in a local market overflowing with brightly coloured fabrics, or being whisked away by a street performerā€™s melody.

This city feels like it's full of stories, like a magical storybook waiting to be unfurled. It's also full of colourful characters, and I found myself feeling so inspired, watching everyone around me, especially those young ladies with a flare for style, sporting all manner of vibrant colors, some even daring to dabble in shades of pink! Itā€™s clear to me that a pink tutu revolution is brewing here ā€“ itā€™s almost in the air.

Thereā€™s no place in the world Iā€™d rather be than right here in the centre of it all! So grab your tutu, your courage, your love for all things pink, and get ready for some serious Italian flair, darling.

Ciao bella,

Emma
