Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1308 – A Ballerina’s Roman Holiday!

Ciao bella!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu! This week, I'm sharing my adventures from a recent trip to the Eternal City – Rome! 🇮🇹 I always dreamed of dancing through the streets of this beautiful city in my trusty pink tutu. And trust me, you’ll be seeing a whole lot of tutus in this blog post. It was definitely time for some dolce vita in this glamorous Italian city!

As always, this week's journey is a product of my dancing career. I landed a lovely gig dancing for a beautiful opera production in Venice (more on that later, of course!) and decided to extend my trip to Rome. I just adore train travel, especially in Europe, with its quaint cafes and lovely countryside scenery. 🚂 Plus, who wouldn’t love to rock their tutu on the train?!

So, pack your bags, grab your favourite tutu and join me on a delightful, twirling, pink-tinted exploration of Rome! 💕

Day 1: Roman Rhapsody

Arriving in Rome, I felt like I was stepping onto a movie set! The grandeur of Termini station, the energy of the city, the scent of pizza, and those cobbled streets, I was hooked!

First things first, fashion fix! My suitcase was already bursting with tulle, but Rome deserves a new, pink tutu. Luckily, there was an amazing boutique near the Trevi Fountain, the Atelier La Rosa - what a name, right?! Their designs were beyond gorgeous, all in pink and shades of magenta with an exquisite, delicate floral theme - right up my alley. I picked a stunning ballerina-inspired skirt, the ‘Bellissima Ballerina' which matched perfectly with my beloved pink tutu, a perfect Roman-style pairing. I could just imagine swirling and dancing on those Roman steps.

Speaking of the Trevi Fountain, I found it even more breathtaking than I'd imagined! It truly felt like I had stepped back in time! The sheer size of it left me speechless. Of course, no visit to Rome is complete without tossing a coin into the fountain, making a wish, and then a mandatory twirl!

Day 2: Colosseum and Aperitivo

This day started with a trip to the Colosseum, such an awe-inspiring monument! It felt like a little slice of history. It really made me think of how different life was in those days! We wandered through the Colosseum and imagined the gladiators battling it out – a little too rough for a ballet dancer, but still very cool!

Afterwards, it was onto a delightful aperitivo experience in the trendy neighbourhood of Trastevere. There were cobblestone alleyways, twinkling lights and delicious food at every corner. I was tempted by some beautiful handmade leather handbags - another perfect souvenir! This was also where I decided to wear my new Roman tutu. It was certainly a conversation starter and many people stopped to admire it. I even managed to snag a few pictures with friendly locals, who just loved the touch of pink in their city.

Shopping Tip: You can find some absolutely gorgeous handcrafted handbags, shoes and clothes at very affordable prices in Trastevere. Don't be afraid to bargain a little!

Day 3: Vatican City & Pink Ice Cream

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican! It's simply awe-inspiring! Standing in the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica, I couldn’t help but think about the history and the art that have touched these walls. It was humbling and breathtaking in equal measure.

To celebrate our wanderings through the Vatican, we treated ourselves to some incredible, pink gelato from La Gelateria dei Coni, and I’m talking strawberry pink gelato! (Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t be a true ballerina without it!). This little cafe had the most delicious gelato I’d ever had, and the Italian owner gave me an impromptu Italian lesson!

And how did I feel at the end of the day? Happy and totally full!

Day 4: Dancing and Dreamy Views

No trip to Rome would be complete without a ballet experience! Luckily, there was a beautiful little ballet school called Scuola di Ballo Romantica, tucked away on a quiet back street in the centre of Rome. The teacher, a lovely woman named Isabella, was incredibly welcoming. It was truly wonderful to share the art of dance with a new group of dancers, each with their own story. And, naturally, I wore my pink tutu to class – everyone loved it!

And for the grand finale of this perfect day, we headed to the Spanish Steps! This was a real ‘pinch-me’ moment! It was like stepping into a fairy tale! After the class, there were lots of friendly, smiley Italians wanting to watch me twirl in the pink tutu and chat about my love of dance. Such an iconic view for such an iconic outfit. We climbed to the top, overlooking Rome's rooftops, enjoying the sunshine and the panoramic views – a real ballerinas dream!

Outfit Note: If you’re going to the Spanish Steps, dress up! A gorgeous pink outfit, or perhaps even a fluffy pink tutu (my suggestion!) really sets off the beauty of this place!

Day 5: Ciao Bella!

The day had arrived to depart beautiful Rome. With a full heart, a light suitcase and a bag full of memories, I caught my train and bid farewell to this incredible city! It's so amazing to share the love of dancing and the colour pink everywhere I go, and this time it was Rome!

I'm already dreaming of my next tutu trip. Maybe Paris, Barcelona, or maybe even somewhere even more far away, who knows? The possibilities are endless! Until then, keep twirling, keep dreaming and keep it pink, my fellow ballerinas! Ciao for now!
