Pink Tutu Rome #1309: The Eternal City, in all its pink glory!
Ciao bellas! It's Emma here, bringing you a dose of pink tulle straight from the heart of Rome, the Eternal City! This Wednesday, I'm taking you on a whirlwind tour of the fashion, food and fabulousness that Rome has to offer. This weekās travels were made possible by my recent performance at the Derby Theatre. The roar of the crowd and the applause after each graceful pirouette are such a wonderful reward. Now, I'm trading in the stage lights for the sun-drenched piazzas and the ancient wonders that Italy has to offer.
This week, I was absolutely thrilled to finally fulfil a dream ā to see Rome! This city has long been a pin on my travel map and I've been dying to explore its ancient history, soak up the sun, and of course, see all the incredible fashion! It's been a joy to immerse myself in the beauty and culture of Italy ā everything feels so vibrant and full of life. And, just in case you were wondering, Iāve already been practicing my āI'm not a tourist, Iām an Italianā voice! I think itās rather convincing! š
This trip has definitely been full of La dolce vita. We arrived on Tuesday by train, my favourite way to travel. I absolutely love the romantic and slightly nostalgic feel of the carriages, the clackity-clack on the tracks ā a bit like a grown-up version of the "Choo-Choo Train" but with far more elegant style. After settling into our hotel room with views overlooking the iconic Colosseum, it was time to embrace the delights of this incredible city. We began our journey in the trendy Trastevere area. Cobbled streets lined with quaint cafes and chic boutiques (with the most divine array of clothes, naturally!) led us to the banks of the River Tiber, a stunning panorama of lights reflected on the rippling waters. I managed to squeeze in a quick photo-op in my pink tutu. (It really goes with everything, I promise you!), as you know a pink tutu never leaves my side! You wouldnāt expect anything else from a #PinkTutuGirl.
Wednesday Adventures
Today, it was time to really dive into the history. Our morning began with a trip to the awe-inspiring Roman Forum, imagining the gladiators and emperors who once roamed these ancient paths. I couldnāt help but twirl with joy and marvel at the magnitude of these historical marvels. We were absolutely dwarfed by the imposing structures!
For lunch, we sampled delicious pasta alla gricia in a charming trattoria, nestled amidst the bustling backstreets. What can I say? I'm absolutely obsessed with Italian pasta. It's truly a delight to indulge in this quintessential comfort food!
Then, the highlight of the day! We ventured to the Vatican City to admire the unparalleled beauty of St. Peter's Basilica. It was a breathtaking spectacle. This place is definitely deserving of its āWorld Heritage Siteā status ā such sheer majesty and artistic genius, I almost needed a pair of rose-tinted spectacles to cope!
It's a beautiful sunny day here and, it wouldn't be Rome without an ice-cream, and itās always better in a cute pink gelato cup. My personal favourite ā a scoops of creamy pistachio topped with sweet stracciatella! Delicious! The sweetness, like the energy of this city, is intoxicating. I'm taking this sweet treat back to my hotel room with my little travelling flamingo plush. You know how much I love flamingos - a bit of pink fun, always brightens my day.
Iām making my way to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma later tonight, one of Romeās premier theatres to see a wonderful production of āLa Traviataā. Iāve already got my dress ready. A simple flowing gown, inspired by the classical lines of a Greek goddess, with a tulle skirt cascading behind me, just like the skirts of my ballerina dancers. You might say Iām going for the elegant ballerina goddess look! I'll let you know what I think about it on Thursday.
PinktutuTravelTips:
Pack a pink tutu. This is obviously a must. Even in the most iconic Italian cities! I was thrilled to find that it matches so well with the terracotta colours, the warm hues of sunset and even the charmingly rustic buildings. Itās just as fitting for a casual lunch by the river or an elegant evening at the opera.
Romeās street markets are fantastic for picking up treasures for a purse, your wardrobe or for little gifts for your friends back home. You might even get lucky with a beautiful hand-crafted Italian hat ā for just the right occasion!
For those with a sweet tooth, grab yourself a sweet cannoli. Donāt forget to add a delicious capuccino to your afternoon treats! They go down beautifully.
Rome has some of the most fabulous gelato. Get a cone and a generous serving, every flavour under the Roman sun! This city just bursts with vibrant energy, so allow plenty of time to wander around the squares, enjoy the fresh Italian air, take photos with cute gelato cones (of course, itās an obligation!) and let the dolce vita work its magic.
Until next Wednesday, stay pink, my little ballerinas. Donāt forget to subscribe to the #PinkTutu blog so you donāt miss out on my fabulous adventures. The linkās right there ā click away, click away!
Ciao ciao!
