Pink Tutu Rome: Post #1310 - Exploring the Eternal City in a Pink Cloud 🩰🇮🇹
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing ballerina, writing to you from the heart of Rome! Yes, it's true! I've finally made it to the Eternal City, and I couldn't be more excited. Rome has been a dream destination for years, and the prospect of twirling amongst ancient ruins in my pink tutu was enough to get my inner ballerina giddy.
This week's blog is coming to you straight from the cobbled streets of Rome, where the air is thick with the aroma of espresso and the sound of laughter mingles with the strum of street musicians. And of course, my pink tutu is making quite the statement! (It goes without saying that I’ve received a flood of compliments, from local Romans and fellow tourists alike - I truly believe the power of a good pink tutu can unite us all!)
Train travel, tutus, and gelato - oh my!
Before we dive into the magic of Rome, I just have to mention my journey here. As you all know, I’m a massive fan of train travel. There’s something so romantic and freeing about watching the world whizz by outside your window, the sun streaming through the carriage, and a good book in hand (or in my case, a sketchbook!). This time, my train trip was particularly memorable, as I couldn't resist the temptation to don my most flamboyant pink tutu, adding a touch of whimsical sparkle to the otherwise serious-faced commuters. I swear I saw more than one smile peek through the cracks of their newspapers - I love knowing I've brought a little joy into the world!
A ballet dream comes true:
My Rome adventure started on a high note - I managed to snag tickets to see La Scala's "La Traviata" at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. This was a dream come true! Seeing opera in this legendary venue, with its intricate Baroque architecture and opulent decor, was an unforgettable experience. I particularly loved the beautiful costumes and the intricate set design. You all know how much I adore ballet and opera, and the chance to witness such brilliance firsthand was pure magic!
Fashion, shopping and the joys of Roman street style:
Speaking of beautiful things, I just had to visit Rome's iconic Via Condotti! This famous street is a paradise for fashionistas, home to the most exquisite boutiques and designers in the world. Of course, my pink tutu accompanied me on my shopping spree, making me stand out from the throng of designer-clad shoppers (but in the best way, naturally!).
I have to admit, I was absolutely captivated by the Roman street style. The locals had this effortless chicness that I've been trying to emulate for ages. From classic black dresses to bold patterns and luxurious fabrics, the Roman fashion scene has definitely inspired my own sense of style. And yes, there have already been several pink tutu moments! I simply can't resist sharing a little twirl whenever I encounter a particularly charming cobbled street or a fountain with breathtaking views.
Food, glorious food (and pink gelato, naturally!)
You all know how much I love to travel with my stomach. And Rome definitely didn’t disappoint! From steaming bowls of pasta to the most delicious pizza, every bite was a symphony of flavour. And of course, no visit to Rome is complete without indulging in gelato. Now, my friends, let me tell you, Roman gelato is something else! It's creamy, rich, and comes in every flavour imaginable. I even found a pink gelato, my personal favourite! (It goes without saying, I shared a delightful scoop with a group of locals who were just as enthusiastic about it as I was - how's that for a pink tutu bridge?)
Ancient wonders, charming piazzas and romantic walks
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without visiting the iconic landmarks. I spent an afternoon wandering around the Colosseum, feeling a little like I’d stepped back in time. And just a few steps away, the Forum Romanum provided a glimpse into the heart of the ancient Roman Empire. The sheer scale and magnificence of these ruins was astounding.
Later that evening, I found myself exploring the romantic, lantern-lit streets of Trastevere, losing myself in the charm of the little alleyways and winding streets. The Trastevere area had a bohemian vibe, with artisan workshops, art galleries and charming little cafes.
But perhaps the most magical moment was catching a stunning sunset from the top of the Spanish Steps. Standing at the summit, my pink tutu billowing gently in the wind, I watched as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant shades of orange and pink. It was truly a moment of awe-inspiring beauty.
Travel Tips for Pink Tutu Princesses (or anyone visiting Rome!)
Here are a few tips for your own adventures in the Eternal City:
- Comfortable shoes are essential. You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so ditch the stilettos and opt for a sturdy pair of flats or walking shoes. You’ll be grateful for them! (Or embrace the comfort and fashion of my signature pink tutu style, as you all know, my ballerina flatties can be just as fabulous as heels.)
- Invest in a good map. Even though Rome is well-signposted, it’s easy to get lost in the charming maze of cobblestone streets. But trust me, getting a little lost is all part of the fun!
- Take your time. There’s so much to see and do in Rome. Take a break, sit in a cafe, and just soak in the atmosphere.
- Try everything. From the traditional pasta dishes to the innovative new creations, there's a world of flavour waiting to be discovered in Rome.
My pink tutu promise to you:
Well darlings, it’s time for me to say ‘ciao’ to Rome (for now). I have so much more to see and explore. Next on the itinerary - the Vatican! But of course, you know I’ll be bringing my pink tutu along. It just wouldn’t be the same without it!
My biggest takeaway from this Roman adventure: remember that life is meant to be enjoyed! And I want to encourage each of you to go out there and live your dreams, in your own unique and magical way. (Remember: A pink tutu always helps.)
Until next week, keep shining and stay beautiful!
With love, Emma
