Pink Tutu Rome #1318: Ciao Bella, Italy!
Wednesday, 2020-09-09
Ciao bella, darling readers! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, bringing you all the latest from the magical city of Rome! Today, Iām popping my cherry, (metaphorically speaking of course) in this city of glorious history, art and delectable food. I just have to tell you about the trip to Rome by trainā¦ what a joyous experience! It was like travelling through a fairytale with rolling hills, vineyards and quaint little villages flitting past the window. It's like I'm starring in a beautiful film, and of course, I am dressed the part - wearing my brand new pink tutu - it really sets the scene!
So letās start with this magical cityā¦ I felt a surge of joy stepping out of the train station - Rome simply oozes elegance and a palpable sense of romance. From the first whiff of rich, aromatic coffee, I knew I was in a place that cherished the simple pleasures of life. The vibrant atmosphere and stunning architecture had my heart aflutter in the most delightful way. This feeling of happiness is one of the reasons I love to travel so much. A few friends in Derbyshire were a bit wary about me doing this journey by train, after all it is about a 23 hour trip to get here from Derbyā¦ but itās so worth it!
Taking Rome by Tutu
Iām spending three glorious days here, soaking up everything Rome has to offer and you bet your bottom dollar, my darling readers, I'll be rocking my pink tutu all the way! This iconic colour will certainly turn heads in the cobbled streets of Trastevere and Campo de' Fiori. The sunshine, the cobblestones, the scent of fresh bread and pizza, it's truly like stepping onto the set of my favourite film! Oh, how I dream of twirling around this majestic city! And speaking of twirling, a big one on the agenda today is seeing a ballet show! My excitement is almost palpableā¦ just the thought of being swept up in the artistry of the dancers makes my toes tap. You see, Rome is just overflowing with beautiful ballet performances at this time of year.
But Rome is far more than just dancing for meā¦ today, after that fab show Iām exploring the Vatican. I can't wait to wander around the awe-inspiring St Peter's Basilica! With all the impressive mosaics, Renaissance art and breathtaking architecture, my little ballerina heart will surely burst. Plus, a cheeky afternoon shopping trip for some designer fashionā¦ Itās good to treat myself to some goodies whilst celebrating my big birthday week. Letās just say it was my excuse for getting those extra pair of stilettos, or shall I say āpink stilettosā? Yes, you read correctly - I simply must match the outfit! A girl's got to look her best when conquering such a magnificent city, wouldnāt you agree?
Sharing The Love
One of my greatest passions, besides ballet and tutus, is travelling by train! That is how I got here to Rome - a 23 hour, but absolutely glorious train trip! And for someone who travels a great deal, I have got a secret that makes train travel far more delightful. Itās my special train bag! Itās big enough to fit everything I need and most importantly - I always have a good book, so many yummy snacks, and a glass of fizzy Prosecco to celebrate! Oh and I always make sure my lucky rabbitās foot charm hangs on my train bag for a little bit of good luck and magic on my journey.
When I started this journey in Derby, my friends were a little surprised by how much luggage I took - but honestly you have to have your pink tutu, spare pairs of shoes and ballet costume for a quick ballet performance ā you never know when inspiration strikes, and who knows? I might just be swept onto the stage at Romeās Grand Opera House! And letās not forget my pink sequin bag, oh, it makes me look and feel fabulous! The good thing about my trip so far has been being able to see amazing Italian scenery. And seeing the farmers in their market stalls ā everything looks and tastes so good, it makes me want to start growing all my own fruit and veg. That said Iām not planning on ditching the fabulous restaurants of Rome, after all, I need the energy for all the ballet classes I will take in Rome and all the theatre shows!
Tonightās the big nightā¦ there is a Ballet and Opera production I've got tickets for - the dress code is "Formal Dress". Letās just say I will be dressed to the nines! My dress will match my shoes and yes, my pink tutu will be making a guest appearance too! For this fabulous event, I decided to keep it super glamorous - I think that a silk gown and a tulle skirt with the iconic Pink Tutu on top for a dash of cheeky sparkle and personality. Of course, a splash of the prettiest blush pink blush on my cheeksā¦and my pink lipstick will complete the perfect feminine and sophisticated look!
But before that big night, a delicious dinner at one of those magical open air restaurants! Oh darling readers, you know how much I love pasta and wine - it's my ideal combo! Especially after an evening wandering the enchanting cobbled streets of the Roman Forum. I love how those stones tell tales of times long goneā¦ oh, a story for another blog. I mean it would take ages to write! Let me tell you - if I am not in the tutu twirling and Iām not at a fabulous performance, Iām finding a cute cafe in the Roman streets and sketching a beautiful cityscape! And who knows what I will find! A beautiful boutique - with fashion for any little ballerina at heart, with fabulous tutus and ballerina dresses. After all, the goal here is to share my love for the ballet with as many people as I can!
Rome, The Eternal City
I can't wait to discover all that this historic city has to offer. I feel as though every corner holds a hidden secret just waiting to be found. And for a young ballerina, this city is an inspirationā¦ from the art and the dance and all that beautyā¦ well I'm finding my artistic muse here in Rome, that is for sure. What I like to call, the inspiration for the Emma Ballerina Show
I mean come onā¦ you all know what's happeningā¦ 2021 is my big show. It is time to start writing the script. Yes darling readers! After my return from my European travels, itās time to start creating the dream performance - an exciting mix of music, movement, laughter and just a little bit of sparkle! But I am going to get this script rightā¦ maybe in an ancient roman villa or on the cobblestone streets in front of a stunning Baroque churchā¦ Who knowsā¦I might find my muse, I mean if a ballet girl ever finds her muse it has to be in Rome right?
So, what have you planned today? A picnic? A ballet class? Whatever it is, do it with joy! That is what my trip has taught me, Rome is full of energy and joie de vivre!
Stay tuned next week when I will be telling you all about what I discovered! Until then, Emma X
