Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1331 - December 9th 2020 - La Dolce Vita and Ballet Bliss!
Ciao bella! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu wearing blogger, and this week we're dancing into Rome! After a whirlwind train journey through the Italian countryside (you know how much I love trains!) I've landed in the Eternal City and already I can feel the magic in the air. The streets are buzzing with life, the sun is shining (and even a little cheeky drizzle can't dampen my spirits!), and I can practically hear the whispers of history coming from every cobblestone and crumbling archway.
This week on the Pink Tutu blog, it's all about…
- Rome! My Roman adventures so far, with highlights, tips and of course, outfit inspiration!
- La Dolce Vita and Ballet: How to embrace the Roman lifestyle with a tutu twist, plus what I'm planning to see on the ballet front this week.
- Fashion Frenzy: A quick stop at some fabulous Roman boutiques - you won't believe what treasures I found!
- Pink Tutu Rome: Where the wild things are (in tutus!)
#PinkTutuRome is definitely living up to its name. The streets are full of colour, from the terracotta rooftops to the vibrantly painted trattorias. The shops are bursting with beautiful fabrics and shimmering sequins, all begging to be twirled around in a pink tutu. And speaking of twirling, I've been enjoying a spot of ballet-themed wandering. It seems Rome is a real hub for ballet - I've been spying ballerinas dancing in squares, at festivals, even practicing in beautiful gardens. It's inspiring to see how ballet permeates even the everyday life in this city.
Day 1: Exploring Ancient Wonders
Today, I started with a walk through The Colosseum, a monument so iconic that it takes my breath away every time. Imagine the energy, the stories, the drama that must have filled this ancient arena! I imagined the gladiators fighting, the roars of the crowd, and my heart filled with wonder. It truly feels like stepping back in time. It was such a powerful experience that I found myself mimicking a few of the ancient gladiatorial moves in my tutu, just for fun! I even bumped into another tutu enthusiast, a lovely young woman named Sofia, who insisted we take a few photos together – the start of my #PinkTutuRome tour group, perhaps?
Then it was on to The Roman Forum. This sprawling complex, a magnificent tangle of temples and buildings, is steeped in history. I pictured the hustle and bustle of ancient Roman life, senators in their togas, merchants hawking their wares. A true testament to the longevity of this remarkable city. It was an absolute joy, twirling through these ruins with my pink tutu, like a whimsical dancer stepping out of history itself!
Food, Glorious Food:
A ballet blogger cannot function on history alone. In the afternoon, I indulged in some of the incredible Italian food - a glorious bowl of pasta in the bustling Trastevere district. The sun was shining on the cobblestones, and there was an energy that crackled with laughter and good cheer.
The Food: Pasta Primavera – A real feast of fresh vegetables and bright, colorful ingredients – this was exactly the sort of delicious food I was hoping for in Italy. Caprese Salad – What else?! Fresh, simple, and bursting with flavour. I can’t imagine Italy without it!
My little Pink Tutu corner: The Piazza Navona:
No Roman trip would be complete without a visit to Piazza Navona, one of the most stunning squares in the city. Surrounded by ancient buildings, street performers, and fountains (that incredible Bernini fountain in the centre, with its playful, frothy sea horses!), the piazza is brimming with vibrant energy.
Fashion Find of the Day:
The day ended with a delightful adventure through the Campo de' Fiori market, a colorful explosion of spices, flowers, and artisan crafts. I managed to snagged a gorgeous coral pink scarf and some bright red beads to adorn my ballet tutu (always ready for an outfit upgrade!). The atmosphere was lively, everyone had their stories to tell. The colours and smells were intoxicating – it's definitely worth adding this market to your itinerary!
Evening Performance:
Back to my room at the Hotel Bella Luna after dinner, for a spot of practice. It's a tiny room with barely enough space to twirl, but it's my own personal backstage, a little slice of peace to prepare for the big evening! Tonight, I'm off to see a performance of Swan Lake at the Teatro dell’Opera (it was the perfect place to catch a show in such a classical city - you can imagine the splendour of the costumes!) .
My Ballet Essentials ( always packed for my trips!): Pink Tutu ( of course!) Glittery Leotard Ballet Shoes ( both for practicing and for dancing!) A Little Black Dress ( always chic and versatile ) Stylish Trainers **Pink Tutu Rome:
This magical city is such a wonderful contrast to the life I know in Derbyshire. It's filled with so much beauty and energy it's easy to be inspired by everything I see here. The light is fantastic, and everything has a bit of a golden hue!
I’ll be bringing you much more on my pink tutu adventures in Rome in my next blog post - I can’t wait to share my further thoughts on this truly remarkable city - a real whirlwind of ballet, fashion and history!
**Until next week ,
Stay gorgeous!
